Sale Advice Please!

Rather than potentially hijack SweetBexi's thread asking for advice on buying stuff while this sale is going on, I figured I'd start my own.

So, the packs which are currently on sale that I do not already own:

Dream Home Decorator Game Pack. Sounds like a lot of fun to me, but is it buggy? Do you think the CAS, BB and gameplay elements are worth it at 30% off?

My Wedding Stories Game Pack. Ok, I've heard that this one was really buggy at first anyways. Has that been mostly ironed out? Again, sounds like fun, but I'd love to hear feedback from those who own and use it already!

My First Pet Stuff. I've stayed away from this one, because it has never REALLY appealed to me. But, I DO love family play, and getting a small "first pet" IS part of a lot of children's experience before they get a family cat and/or dog. So...Advice on this one?

Bowling Night Stuff. Stayed away from this one too, but I'm curious about the bowling play itself, is it fun? Did you think it was worth the buy?

(I also don't own the Star Wars game pack, but I have NO plans to ever get it *LOL*)

So, there's the gist of it. Any comments and advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

DHD: I had zero interest in the gameplay, and have never used it (and probably never will), but at 50%, it ended up being worth it to me for B/B and CAS. So considering that you think the gameplay sounds like fun, I'd guess it's probably worth it to you at 30% off.

MWS: can't speak to the wedding gameplay, as I'll be using it for the first time once we have the milestones from Growing Together. B/B and CAS are fantastic. The world is gorgeous, although it often feels very empty, and the weather can be a lot to deal with (seems like it's always raining, always).

MFPS: this is one that I did wait a few years to buy 50% off. I've gotten zero use out of the furniture, and little if any out of CAS, but the small animals can be fun for family play. And it would probably fit in well with the new pack, if you are planning to get it.

Bowling Night: i rarely use the bowling play, but it's a fun change of pace, sometimes. (I have my bowling alley in the basement of the Strangerville bar.) The real reason I bought it, though, is that there are a few absolutely gorgeous rockabilly clothing items, and a hairstyle that I absolutely could not pass up. I bought it on sale, but honestly, I strongly considered buying it at full price just for that one hairstyle.

DHD has some nice BB/CAS, I'd recommend it on those aspects alone. The career is boring and feels shallow imo.

MWS weddings are much better now than when they started, but you still have a few issues, like routing, sims getting up during weddings, not being able to get wedding rewards, the removal of the old wedding system, etc. The parties are basically all the same once you get past the customized goals, and they're pretty dull. If you like the new wedding style though, I'd go ahead with it. The world is also pretty, the CAS is very nice, and the BB is decent. I got this last year for 30% off and don't regret it.

My First Cash Grab's BB and CAS are pretty weak. Rodents are decent if not particularly engaging, but at least you can get rabies from them. I'd honestly recommend Bust the Dust now that it's fixed; you can feed and take care of dust bunnies, and they take up less space. It's also cheaper and adds vacuuming to the game.

Bowling Night is often glitchy and very slow, but the BB/CAS is nice. Imo I'll visit a bowling alley once in a blue moon. In my opinion, it's not something you'll use very often, compared to other hobbies in the game.

I'd say it depends on what you're aiming for. If you're into gaming, MWS and BN offer the most. When it comes to building, DHD all the way. I'd say that MWS o is the best of the offers since it's got a few plusses all-around.

Star Wars is useful to start with the aspiration reward trait that tops off your needs when you travel. You can immediately chance the aspiration but keep the trait. There are also some great build/buy items.

Every pack has something buried in it that is useful to everyone. I only play vanilla so I really need everything that is in all the packs. I find the most unexpected things buried in the most unexpected packs. The most boring community areas can be modified into not-boring places. Just google at youtube for ideas.

I do a lot of cross-pack play. It something starts out seeming like I don't want it, I just need to combine it with another pack.

The glitches and the bugs drive me nuts, so I often do not use those packs for that they were designed to do most, and get creative instead. I use the Tartosa world a lot, but not for weddings. It has great food stalls and swimming areas. The rental home is great for a single person to take a one-day vacation alone.

With the Star Wars trait, it is easy to travel a sim around several worlds a day, grabbing drinks and take-out and using community areas to build up skills.

I love DHD. I am someone who really enjoys interior design, and I enjoy the career even though it can be buggy at times. Sometimes the reveal doesn't work the way it is intended. But, for me, that seems to have something to do with how you manage your time. You have a set time limit to complete the objective. If you take too long and the sims who hired you spend too much time deciding whether they like what you have done, you can run out of time. Then you get an abrupt ending. Once I realized this, and started giving lots of time for the reveal, I had less problems with bugs. BB and CAS are really nice. Totally worth it at 30% off, imo.

I bought MWS on sale. I have yet to have a wedding. The world is beautiful, and I use it as a destination world, mainly for romantic weekend getaways. CAS is lovely. If you are comfortable with using mods, there are plenty for this pack that make it work better. I have a mod to make it rain less. I have some mods set aside that will improve the quality of the weddings as I do plan to have one eventually. I would not pay full price for it; but I am happy that I bought it.

I like to take my sims bowling. I like the venue that comes with it. It does take a long time to get through a game. However, it is an enjoyable change of pace that I use for certain sims. For me, the CAS is meh.

I bought MFPS on sale just for the cat outfits. Totally would do it again. Cat outfits for the win.

Thank you SO much to everyone who responded with opinions and advice on the packs I mentioned!

I think I'll bypass the two stuff packs then. But now I'm torn...Should I get DHD or MWS? I cant rationalize spending the money for both (even with the sale), but I think I DO want to get one of them. I'm leaning more towards MWS...
@Monet11 based off of what you said about DHD and MWS respectively, based on your experiences with both packs, which one would you recommend more?

I love DHD so far, it’s fun decorating peoples houses as a job for your sims. I believe this is the pack that comes with different sofa pieces that you can put together and the same with putting together wall units and closet units and such…… I loved that feature even before I started playing the career. Of course it comes with new clothes and hairstyles too, and lots of
furniture. It also comes with decor likes and dislikes.

My first pet stuff is one of my favorite stuff packs. Besides rodents, it also adds some extra children’s furniture that matches some of the pieces in cats and dogs. There are more clothes for animals and such too. Rodents can give you a rodent disease if you don’t keep their cages clean and such. You can even study your animals and get credit for doing homework. It ties in with parenting. It has more than one type of rodent. ( Like rats, Guinea pigs? I think, even a void critter ). Would welcome even more animal that children ( and adults could take care of and play with. Some of my child sims also collect frogs, and fish ( like guppies and goldfish ), from the basegame and I insects from Granite falls, but I would certainly welcome more animals that tie in with parenting.

MWS has the beautiful world of Tartosa, with swimming areas, and other unique lots. It has a lot of wedding clothes, many beautiful dresses, suits and such ( I did miss not getting tiara’s and veils as a separate accessories from hair though ). It does have traditional outfits for different places around the world, such as Indian, Asian, etc. I love the wedding and formal dresses it comes with. It comes with being able to make a ton of wedding cakes as well. With get to work, it’s easy to make a wedding store. I haven’t used the gameplay yet, but there are different types of wedding functions you can throw, and I have heard that if you know what you are doing, and don’t get too complicated that weddings can come out nicely. To me it’s worth it.

Bowling stuff is another pack that gives your sims something else to do, it pairs well with a bar or lounge, or a cafe, etc. if you have get together you can make bowling clubs, even rival ones, lol. With get together you can also put an arcade in your bar/bowling alley. Bowling stuff has the furniture and CAS for bowling, including more hairstyles,

If you like steam punk, Star Wars has a lot of outfits, and build/buy for that. It also has a gambling game and though I haven’t used most of the Batuu game play, the missions do sound fun. It also comes with toys ( souvenirs and such for your child sims ). It can be used as an amusement park activity. It has some missed opportunities though, no real hotels (accept rabbit hole ones ) no motels or rental lots, and no home lots. The Batuu aliens are also outfits rather than real aliens ( at least outside of Batuu ), it does have a really neat curved bar, and many people have made science fiction restaurants with the pack and dine out used together.

I use DHD for BB and CAS quite a lot it mixes well with other packs on those fronts

but the gameplay is just disaster in this pack
the interior gigs are often glitchy sometimes you can't even get in the dang house or edit what is supposed to be edited in the gig
and you keep getting houses you have no intention of redecorating/exist on other side of sim earth (well I do anyway)
so it feels slightly meh in that way

it also gives your sims bogus likes and dislikes
if you have not set all your sims favourite colors activities decor styles so forth yourself

(which I usually have not set the decor style because they did not even add all decor styles in game to that selection)

I think the most frustrating really is the decor style likes and dislikes
because it wouldn't even exist in the menu without this pack
it can be good sometimes but mostly it just annoys me

    --

Wedding stories I am actually not sure of how it is now
because I never really tried to throw a wedding yet
due to seeing how hard it was to even have sims do basic interactions in this pack

like slow dancing for instance but recently I have noted the sims actually did slowdance on the dancefloors
which might be happy coincidence or maybe they fixed it who knows really

CAS and B/B is nice tho I use the items everywhere especially those windows and doors and long dresses
and if you don't have luxury party those food items might come handy
also i love tea sipping even though its still rather glitchy

the world seems to eat lots of performance and weather is a mess
so I often just avoid going there at all but eh

I feel like this pack just broke the game too much for me at release and I am still in recovery

    --

rest I do not have but Bowling does interest me a little
because I could then have something new for my community lots
I think my sims are just always stuck at home cause we have so few fun community lot items

first pet also seems fun if you are into the little pet thing
but I am still salty about it not just being in Cats and Dogs
and also I have like no interest in other items in this pack maybe minus funny rugs and the hairstyles

DHD I've liked suprisingly much. In rotational play it adds another dimension when your played sims goes to other homes to give them a redesign. My sim has redecorated office room, kids' bedroom and an orphanage living room etc. The orphanage especially was breaking my heart because he would have wanted to do so much more than what he had budget for. His work can change how I play the other families or what I focus on. The pack doesn't strictly have new gameplay, but it manages to feel a little bit new. The CAS and BB get a lot of use.

I would still probably get MWS though since I absolutely adore the world. It was just what I wanted for my game. I haven't played weddings for a while, so I don't know what the situation is currently. My past experience is that it's playable with some bugs, but not very enjoyable since it takes a lot of micro management. Overall I think the gameplay is rather weak, but some may enjoy it. The CAS is super nice, I haven't looked the BB super closely, but suppose it's good for weddings.

Bowling stuff I personally like. It is a bit tedious activity as takes up quite a bit of time. I think it's worth having if you want your sims to have something different to focus on. It's nice to work up the skill in that sense and it gives them a hobby that's less "basic". I have a group of sims who started bowling as teenagers and have club meetings at a bowling alley.

My First Pet Stuff I can't recommend. The rodents are okay but also pretty much forgettable. The BB and CAS are ugly, there's only one good thing and it's a blinder for windows that comes in three different widths. It's the best blinder in game.

I don't own Journey to Batuu.

I would recommend DHD. That may be a little unfair to MWS because I have yet to use the main features. But I really enjoy the DHD career. I understand that others have experienced glitches with some of the builds, but I haven't seen that. I am only level 8 career, so maybe it's the more advanced builds that have isssues.

You could totally of hijacked my post, I wouldn't of minded at all 🥰

    I have all these packs.

I do like DHD, I played the career a few times and I do use a lot of the furniture in my games.

MWS I tried a wedding once and it was a riot 🤣 I've never tried since but the World is beautiful.

My 1st Pet stuff I have purely because it was pets and tbh I don't reckon I have ever used any of it 🙈

I like the Bowling as it just gives another activity to go do.

I have Starwars and as a fan, I still don't play it, I maybe didn't give it a good enough a try but for my gaming style with families it just hasn't come into play.

Out of them all DHD is my most used and likely favourite

I can’t play without the BB in DHD. Almost every house I play gets made over with the kitchen set. The CAS is also pretty good. But BB is where it shines and I say that as someone who cares more about CAS. I did have fun with the career, but it can be a bit buggy at times but from my experience nothing game breaking.

I have had successful weddings in MWS but it’s not a guarantee. It can sometimes be frustrating. I’ve personally loved the wedding dresses and the suits. It was something that I really wanted. I enjoyed the BB, but it is focus on wedding venues, so not for regular play. Slow dancing was in my top two wants for the Sims 4 so that alone makes this pack worth it for me. The world is beautiful but very empty. Stalls close at 6, no sims around. I personally was somewhat disappointed.

All that to say, I recommend DHD unless weddings are important to you.

Most of MWS works. My sims always stop the slow dance before they get very far. I think it's because if you use the interaction to gather guests at the dance floor it gets too crowded for the big animations of the dance. I also can't figure out how to get them to throw rice as the bride and groom walk back down the aisle (or up, whichever - sometimes I use the rehearsal dinner just to test out the commands so at the ceremony I remember whether the arch is up or down the aisle and such). But it works at least as well as the base game weddings where no one sat down or reacted to the ceremony... it's just different parts that aren't perfect. I love the wedding cakes and bouquets and I think they'll enhance my retail options in the long run. And I like a lot of the CAS. Tartosa is a pretty world. I put my mixed occult household there because it's the prettiest swimmable water outside of Sulani for the mermaids in the family.

I like the bowling. Definitely for a sale price it's worth it. Unless you really love watching them bowl you should always choose the shortest number of rounds available though because it does take a while, especially if they start chatting. It has decent CAS that has uses outside of the bowling alley.

The small pets from MFPS are the main attraction. Having had pet rats and hedgehogs when I was younger I like the options. They do have some depth to them also, with the rodent fever, the postcards, and the available interactions.

I don't have DHD because I don't really enjoy decorating so I didn't think I'd enjoy the career. It has some nice CAS and BB I sometimes wish I had though.
