I wanted to post this mod but I am too late already. Less than 24 hours after the update and modders already come to the rescue. I like the additional flexibility of having a choice.

Yes but it's good to have a variety of ways.

My sim Leo had three science babies as a single parent, I aged them up in CAS using cas.fulleditmode, and all three ended up as complete clones of him. I found it pretty cool. The only technical exception was the daughter but she was just a genderbent clone.

yeah I am little sad that it instantly pops out newborn without pregnancy thing cause in many cases it would have been nice to have that stage included

I assume its because the whole who is mother thing they want to avoid so its kind of like adoption except with genetics

but i would have liked to have option for can get pregnant sims to have science baby via pregnancy

Maybe, though I think in a sims world where cis male sims can carry an alien pregnancy, that shouldn't be an issue. I would have just set it up where the sim (of whatever gender) who actually makes the "Science Baby" selection would be the one who carries the pregnancy. And I wouldn't mind it being an option to be either instant or through pregnancy. It just seems odd to me, because, you know, if you have IVF or use a donor in real life, your baby isn't grown in a pod in a lab, you actually carry it, just like anyone else. For those who want the more scifi option, that's fine, I just wish there was at least a choice for our non-traditional families to still have a traditional pregnancy.
Not sure about all your other concerns, but I do know that they mention that baby showers are not exclusive to pregnant Sims.

Well, that's some small comfort, at least.

you can make it where the man has the baby in cas you can also pick if they pee standing or not
so yes you can have to sims with the same bits have a baby already if thats what you want also I think there was a bug with male pregnancy when they had it where men could get pregnant by alien try for baby all the men were getting pregnant in game not just the ones that had babies with aliens so they removed it :'( I want it back
it was really cute maybe thats why they didn't do that with the new option

I have a gay couple that could definitely use this science baby route to have their child since neither can conceive. My other gay couple, though, had their baby the natural way because one of them can get preggers. The newborns are adorable now. Even their cry is so cute.

It's not an instant baby, it makes a successful Try for baby or add a child.

Created a single sim to test out the Science Baby mod. First had him have a science baby by himself then with Candy Behr. Meet Gabriel Lorca & his daughters Ava (blonde hair, had by himself) & Breanna (glasses, had with Candy). You might not be able to tell, but Breanna's skin tone is a bit lighter than her dad & sister's & she got her red hair from Candy I think (Candy has blonde & pink hair). Don't know where Ava got the blonde hair from though lol. All three have the same color eyes.

I just realized these science babies are gonna make 100 baby challenges so much easier. You don't even have to romance the sims. You only have to befriend them. And if you have the idea of the sim marrying or dating only certain sims, that works out. Because you won't have old romantic interests coming around, that you have to ask to "just be friends".
You still have to raise them. You can just avoid pregnancy.
And if you chose to get the mod that adds the option to be pregnant, you have the choice.
Plus it makes it easier to have kids with like Grimm or Father Winter. You just don't have to do it the long way.

does the baby look like the mom if you have science baby?

Am I reading this right? So Science Babies are just clones of one of the sims? That seems lazy.
  • greydonngreydonn Posts: 527 Member
No, science babies are clones if you use the Have Science Baby as Single Sim option. If you have a science baby with two sims they shouldn't be clones.

Idk what happened everything I wrote disappeared 😕.

Basically I'm pretty sure science babies are just play with genetics like in CAS but giving them to you in baby form so you get the experience. Like how when the game first came out same-sex sims couldn't have children. The only work around was doing it through play with genetics and it'd be a kid already. This is back during the baby aging up to a child asap times.

Then they gave us the options to change who could get pregant/get others pregnant. And we suddenly had more options. And then they added more in gender and other options.

And we got toddlers. Now infants.
I know clones came with GTW, but I never used them. So I honestly only recently saw more about them. And what I saw was the same sim over again.

This science baby thing seems to be play with genetics. Every time I've done that in CAS with 1 sim parent, I've gotten different kids. Not a sim that looks exactly like the parent sim. And the science babies I've seen in let's plays so far are also different, even when done with one parent.

(Oh I hate when my writing disappears it happens all too often :( )

That's exactly what I've seen and think too, up till the last part, but maybe something was glitched on my end. I just know that when I took my sim Leo to have a science baby as a single sim, 3/3 babies all aged up to look exactly like him. When my sim Onyx had a science baby with Father Winter the baby ended up looking like a combination of both.

Operating just off of memory, in James Turner's 7 infant challenge video all the infants looked identical to me too, and he was using the have a science baby as a single sim option. I can't remember if he ever aged the infants up to see if they looked like the starting sim.

I might need to test this new feature out more.

Can anyone confirm that we should be able to have a science baby with Morgyn Ember. I thought I could be for I download growning together but now I can't.

I just tested by having one of the default sims have 7 science babies. For science, I set them all to the same gender (6 were female by birth, 1 altered in CAS) so there were no frame differences to get the truest comparison. All 7 children were clones, aside from some differences in their body weight. Parent is in green.

Also tested creating 7 through play with genetics in CAS. They all had VERY similar facial features but some had different eye colours, skin details, etc.

I can only do it after adding them to my household. The option doesn't come up otherwise. I noticed this in Gluon's stream with other special NPCs, so there must be some kind of hidden flag.

That's interesting bc I saw someone do an infant to teen one with all science babies and they all looked different, but obviously related. Multiple hair colors, and some different features though. I wonder if she edited them after, or if it depends?
