@Ellupelluellu What do you think? Is Alexander telling us everything accurately, or could he be confusing some of the details because he wasn’t there to experience them?
Is Damian really as evil as he appears in the story? Did everything that happen to Mortimer actually happen?
Lots of questions to answer, but that’s just part of the fun.
Oh okay, yes I knew Max was Alex, but I thought Alex changed that name , so he dont have to tell others its about him
Now I got it right, Alex cannot recognize that it’s his story. Thank you for answering

On a side note, the merfolk tails and their traits aren’t random.
Lore in the spoiler:
Merfolk that were human before becoming merfolk with the possibility of becoming human again have a different tail.
Merfolk that will always be merfolk and can never become human have the Atlantica style tail.
Calum, Kemps, Isla, Reef, Dylan, Zephyr, Kylen, Lir, Damion, and Ukupanipo have the Atlantica Style tail. They also have the Clumsy and Child of the Ocean traits.
The clumsy trait causes the merfolk to occasionally stumble on their feet, and I love that animation for a being that doesn’t naturally have legs.
They are natural born merfolk, and even Sea Witches as powerful as Damion and Arihi can’t turn them into humans. In my story, they will always be merfolk and nothing will or can change that.
For Arihi, she has a tail that comes from Island Living. She wasn’t a natural born mermaid and can become a human. She has the Child of the Ocean trait because that was actually one of her original traits when Calum first met her. She doesn’t have the clumsy trait.
Alexander has the Atlantica Tail. But, he’s slowly becoming more and more distant from his life as a human. He doesn’t have the clumsy trait, but Alexander’s tail should be a good indicator that he can’t become human again.

I’m thinking that the story will progress based on what happens in my game, but I’ll do my best to maintain some continuity and consistency in the story.
I’m hoping to have another update ready some time this weekend. We’ll see.
Extras may or may not be related to the story, but they will almost always be fun and interesting things that happen in the game. If I can't make something interesting work inside the story, I will almost always make it an extra.
I did comment on What's happened -thread already, but indeed as father as son. I'm very interested seeing what will be results of this one

@Metior_Ice I think Alex realizes his mistake in trusting Damian. I can't wait to see how this ends because at some point Damian will have to answer for the tricks he's played.
It was a long swim to get to place merfolk often gather, and when the Zalrians arrived, the twins needed some time to relax their fins. Dylan and Zeph lounged in the tides, but it wasn't long before the twins were swimming around again.
"What do you want to do first?" Zeph asked.
"I don't know, there's so much to see around here!" Dylan answered.
"I overheard dad talking to Uncle Kemps about how human stuff can be found around here." Zeph said.
"I'm not sure we should be getting too close to human things."
"Aren't you curious about what we might find?!"
"A little." Dylan admitted.
"Then let's go looking for some special treasures!"
"I guess that could be fun."
"But before we go looking for treasures, I need to make sure we're ready for the adventure!" Dylan said.
"What do we need to prepare for?" Zeph asked.
"A water blast!"
"Hold on!"
Dylan splashed at his brother.
"I thought we had a truce!"
Zeph splashed back.
"Okay, okay, truce! You win!"
"Fine, we can call a truce for now." Zeph chuckled.
"For now." Dylan agreed.
Dylan sank lower into the water. "Where do you think we should start looking? We can't exactly leave the water."
"I was thinking that some human treasures could have washed into the ocean near the shore!"
"That might actually work!" Dylan exclaimed.
"Of course it will!" Zeph shrugged. "I'm a genius, remember!"
"Slow down, we can't let your ego blow up like a pufferfish." Dylan said.
"Can't help it. It's the truth." Zeph replied.
"Well then, lead the way Mr. Genius."
"Don't worry, I think I know the perfect place to start our search!"
"Already?!" Dylan asked.
"Yeah," Zeph answered. "When Uncle Kemps lead us here, he avoided a spot not far from here. He usually stays far away from human things, so I think we should start there."
Zeph led his brother to the spot.
"Look at this stuff. I wonder what humans do with these things?"
"I can't imagine they do much with it since they let the tides wash it away." Zeph answered.
Dylan quickly began rummaging through the trinkets and rubbish. "There has to be something interesting here?"
"Look at this!"
"Neat, dad called those dinglehoppers! Humans use them to comb their hair!"
"Dylan, what are you doing with that?"
Dylan dropped his treasure when his dad surfaced next to him.
"Nothing." Dylan felt bad about losing his dinglehopper.
"Dylan, what would Uncle Kemps think if he saw you with that?"
"He would probably get upset." Dylan answered.
"He would." Calum said. "I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to learn about humans, but your uncle is absolutely against it."
"I'm sorry dad." Dylan said.
"Please understand that he just wants to keep us safe, and he's the leader of our pod."
"But dad, don't you want to know more about the human world? You know so much about humans already."
"Zeph's right, dinglehoppers are pretty cool."
"I want us to be friends with humans, and of course, I'd love to learn more about them. But, I still follow your Uncle's rules."
"I know there are lots of nice and helpful humans on land, but your Uncle isn't wrong about being careful around humans. Some humans aren't so nice."
While Calum explained Kemps's rules about humans to the twins, Kemps caught Alex watching a human a little too close to the shore.
"Young Man, what do you think you're doing so close to a human?"
"Nothing."
"Do I need to remind you how dangerous humans are? Were you even thinking about what you were doing?"
"Uncle Kemps, I just thought she was interesting."
"I don't want to hear any excuses! Your actions put our entire pod at risk. Your little brothers are just merlings, they can't even take a human form to hide from humans. Do you know the risks you're exposing them too!"
"She didn't see me."
"Alexander, that's not the point. It doesn't matter if she saw you or not. You took an unnecessary risk."
"Besides, how do you know she's dangerous?"
"Alex, do you remember what happened to your parents before we took you in?"
"They passed away when I was really young. I don't remember much."
"Your father, he made choices that put you in danger. We saved you, but humans can be greedy and selfish."
"I don't understand. What do humans have to do with my parents' deaths?"
"I said too much. Just, stay away from humans. Nothing good can from getting involved with them."
"I think you're too harsh on humans. My parents died in the deep sea. We never came anywhere close to the human world! If you can't be honest with me, I don't want to hear anymore of your rules."
"Alexander, my rules are the rules. As long as you swim with this pod, you'll follow them."
"I don't understand your rules. I don't care about your rules."
"You don't have to understand them. I expect you to follow them anyways."
"You're an absolute tyrant. It's impossible to reason with you!"
"Alex, I'm just looking out for your safety. You're still my nephew, and I want you to be safe."
"What if I want to learn more about her?"
"What are you talking about?"
"I think I... I think I like her..."
"I can't believe I'm hearing this. I absolutely forbid it."
"Why? We don't even know her though."
"Exactly! How do you know you like her then?"
"It's just a feeling."
"Alex, you're a merman. She's a human. There's just no way it'll work."
"So what? Arihi was human, and she's a part of the pod!"
"She gave up being human to live in the sea with Calum. Most humans aren't known to make that sacrifice."
"But what if she will? What if she's like mom?"
"And what if she's another selfish human that will sacrifice others for her own gain?"
Kemps took a deep breath. "What will it take to make you understand?"
"I need space. Don't follow me." With a flick of his tail, Alex kicked up the sea and swam away.
Kemps was worried about him, but he figured that it would be better to give him space.
Kemps muttered to himself. "I wish you could remember how you became a part of our family."
There wasn't a lot that Alex could clearly remember about his past, and he couldn't grasp the idea of humans being involved in his parents' deaths. But, he did recall one thing about the deep.
After so many years, he never thought he would go to him. But, Alex knew that he helped his parents be together. Maybe... Maybe he could help.
Alex continued swimming in the dark depths of the sea until he found a small hidden cave. To his surprise, the one he was looking for was waiting for him.
"I have a problem, and I've heard you can help."
Damion smiled. 'I had a feeling that I would see you again.'
@Metior_Ice That was a wonderful update and well worth the wait.
I loved the pufferfish reference.🙂 That is a perfect way to describe a merfolk ego. Some things are universal, merfolk or human, youthful rebellion. Sometimes it's best to follow the rules, sometimes it's best to push back against them. The tricky part is knowing which way to go. Be careful Alex!
I’m following some of the little mermaid themes, but it’s not going to be 100% the same story. There’s still a lot more I want to do with my merfolk, and if I’m being honest, the expanded mermaids mod really does have a lot of gameplay that follows that theme. How could I not dabble in it?
Dylan is the creative twin, not the most observant, but his heart is always in the right place. Zeph is the intellectual twin, notices things his twin often misses, and he always has a plan.
Both twins need each other, and Zeph needs Dylan to keep his ego in check. Dylan might not be observant in the same way Zeph is, but he does know when his twin is getting a bit full of himself.
That’s definitely one of the themes I really want to focus on in my story, an idea that I think can help new stories be told about merfolk. Human or Merfolk, there are some things that are universal, and we all have choices we need to make in life. Youthful rebellion can be just as much a part of a young mer’s life in much the same way it is for humans. Merfolk can still care about their family like humans do.
The trick is knowing when to make the right choices. Kemps cares about Alex, and there is a very good chance he knows that Alex wasn’t originally a merman, but a human. Kinda adds a bit more complexity to Kemps than King Triton’s biases about humans.
Kemps both cares about and is protective of Alex knowing that he wasn’t always a merman. He’s embraced Arihi in the family knowing that she was once human. Maybe Kemps isn’t as anti-human as he appears, just a bit more wary of them.
"I'm not one to dilly dally. Here's what I can do for you."
"But, I haven't even told you what my problem is?"
"Trust me, I have a way of knowing."
"But, I'll humor you. Correct me if I get anything wrong."
"Deal! If you get anything wrong, I'll find someone else to help me."
"Then we have a deal. I'm a big fan of those."
"You've got a crush on a human girl."
"Go on."
"And your Uncle doesn't approve. He won't even listen to you or give her a chance."
"But, you're a young merman, and she's a young woman, a human. No matter how much you want to be with her, you can never become human yourself. There's no guarantee that she will give up being human to be a mermaid."
"Yes, that sounds exactly like my problem!"
"And let me guess, you aren't the type to force someone to fall in love with you. You know that mermadic magic can do that, but you want her love to be genuine."
"Yes!"
Convinced, Alex swam back to the Cauldron, and with a flurry, Damion presented the contract again.
"This is the deal. I'll give you your chance to be with her, a small enchantment. With this magic spell, you'll have your chance to get to know this human girl without your Uncle getting in the way."
"So, you're saying that if I sign this, I'll get a chance to get know her, my Uncle won't be able to stop me, and I won't be putting my little brothers in danger by exposing them to humans."
"That's what I can do for you, but hold on, you can't get something for nothing. All magic comes with a price."
"We are talking about an enchantment that will guarantee that you get your chance with this girl and ensure the safety of your little brothers. Any magic that does that can't be free."
"My voice?"
"Yes, but it's a very small price to pay for everything that you'll be getting in exchange."
"How will I get to know her?"
"You could try listening. I mean, what better way is there to learn about someone else?"
"I guess you're right. You haven't been wrong once."
"And all I need to do is sign?"
"One signature, and you'll get your chance to be with the girl!"
Convinced that this was his best chance, Alex signed the contract.
"And now."
"We have."
"A Deal!"
"Now sing!"
Out of instinct, Alex fought the compulsion to sing, but he couldn't resist Damion's magic.
Once he started to sing, he felt a force reach into his throat and pull.
As the force released Alex, he watched a light float above him. He lost the compulsion to sing, but the light continued singing for him.
Alex watched the light float toward Damion. The light continued singing as Damion's magic whirled around it.
Damion masterfully manipulated the light as it danced in the darkness.
Alex reached up to his neck, already feeling what he lost.
Alex frowned as he watched the singing light float closer to the shell above the cauldron.
Alex reached for his voice, as the light disappeared into the shell. With Alexander's captured voice, the shell glowed in the dark, but the cave remained silent.
"It was a pleasure doing business with you."
Alex reached for his neck one more time. 'My voice, it's really gone.'
Alex tried to speak, but he couldn't make a sound or say a single word. Alex couldn't help but feel like he lost something important, something he needed. However, there was no going back now.
Alex silently returned from the deep and smiled when he saw the Sulani Sky. Even though he couldn't speak, Damion kept his end of the deal. Alex would be able to get to know his crush without putting his brothers in danger, and Kemps couldn't stop him.
The first thing he planned on doing was finding her. He hoped that she was still around. The sun was setting, and he didn't realize how long his visit with him was.
