Get Famous Vault

Does this thing actually hold anything like collectibles or does it just take up a lot of space? and how about the vault door thing that matches?

I don't know about collectables, but I do know it holds money. My Sim matriarch had so much money that it stopped going up, so I had her put a few million in the vault. It'll stay in there until you have your Sim collect it. I haven't used just the door, but I don't see why it wouldn't work the same.

@lisamwitt Thank you, that's pretty cool! My sim's money is maxed out too.

I use those vaults to make a community bank where my sims go to store their money. And then I have other sims rob the bank.

And the vault door is a door that acts like... well... the door of a vault. So you can make the whole room into a vault of collectibles, locked by your sim.

I forgot we had that. There's an action to dive and woo-hoo in the money right?

I use it to store simoleans, never thought of using the door to store other things.

I only used it for money so far. Once you put in a certain amount of money the vault gets a pile of money to nap in. I think also woohoo but I didn't test that.

Here is what a filled vault looks like. It is only filled with money even though it visually shows a necklace and jewels

I use storage chest for collectibles. The storage chests from university are especially useful because they don't share inventory with other storage chests. My sim has one chest to store fruits/plants and one for Crystals, rocks and fossils.

The vault door can be used to make secure rooms for collectibles/art etc. The vault itself only holds cash (and sims, if you trap them inside). Storing cash in vaults effectively increases maximum wealth beyond the max limit set by the game. A sim "claims" a vault by adding cash to it. An empty vault is free to be claimed by any sim that has some simoleons.

If you make a bank on a community lot (Generic, Library or maybe Retail if you want to own a bank and have customers), then it's a fun place to send Clubs of Kleptos, Criminals and rich sims. You could also make it an active workplace/office for sims in computer/writing based careers like Freelance Writing/Programming, Social Media, Law, Education etc.

The vault/vault door can also be used for trapping/holding sims (possibly pets too) for your more deviant sims. Like any locked door sims would eventually die of starvation if they have no access to food, but can escape if you leave the lot. Not sure if they can escape the vault object.

I used to use the vault for my Teen celebrity, to keep his earnings separate from the family household funds. There is an interesting side benefit. Sims can woohoo in the money, if they're so inclined. The vault can be cumbersome, though and it isn't beyond being hacked. Twice, Erik's siblings launched an attack on it. Once his next younger brother, who is a Genius, and then his younger and only sister. Bree, how could you? I was very happy to come across SimRealist who has mods that allow for Sims in the same lot to have their own bank accounts. I found I liked this better, so I wrote down how much Erik had accumulated, transferred the funds to the household and from there he banked it. Then I removed the vault. As for the door, I think you have to build a room onto the lot and then use the doors to gain access. I've never had any luck using it.

I have both version of vaults, the object (that takes up space, right) and the door that allows you to equip the vault as you like including collectives etc. On a community lot I have a bank with vaults in th basement. 6 semi-criminal sims have one vault each in order to keep money out of their household net worth and lower their bills. Uhm... I had a fun situation where one bank vault owner died without making needed arrangements, and the heir had to break into the vault to get his heritage :)

EDIT: Lowering bills requires the vault is on another lot. Values in vault on home lot counts towards bills.

Oh perfect, thank you all so much, such great idea's! the attic on the house I'm building has a 9x30? runway across the top of the house so I can build up there. Lowering the bills and cleaning out their inventory will be fantastic too. :# I love the references' to Scrooge McDuck too LoL.

No, it's a facial recognition system, only the owner can unlock the vault door.

If you want to allow more sims maybe you should use ... a door :p

Just wanted to update this to something I found out; if you put a large amount of money in the vault and then add the vault to family inventory it reduces bills drastically and you don't have to move it off lot. I added 7 million to the vault and stuck it in family inventory, Mel's bills went from 180k a week to 69k!! Pretty happy about that. ;)

Really. You must not have Seasons. It reinstalled itself (thanks, EA) so now all my farms have tanked.
  • LuvtehGeeksLuvtehGeeks Posts: 1,612 Member
@Oldeseadogge but I do have Seasons and I have noticed a bigger problem with the plants, they are reverting back to a lesser quality everytime I leave the lot. Now I spend all my gardening time evolving plants that were perfect after they sprout from dirtpile phase again.

You poor soul! Have been having constant gardening problems since the app, in its infinite lack of wisdom, reactivated that wretched pack. I'd forgotten about the one you mentioned as it's been years since it was last active. From the amount of your vault deposit assumed you were a happy dragon fruit farmer with lots of plants producing bountiful and frequent harvests. Wishing you well.
  • LuvtehGeeksLuvtehGeeks Posts: 1,612 Member
@Oldeseadogge Not a dragon fruit farmer, I just love gardening and wanted to grow 1 of everything to perfect quality. :D I don't know if it's a glitch or not but when my crops fall on the ground I will sometimes notice a new plant, like the fallen produce took root for the few plants I have outside of a greenhouse. I enjoy Seasons to much to disable it, Carl's gardening mod might help you stabilize your plants so you can enjoy it again, I've never tried it but it seems highly recommended. The millions come from that and having several of my family member's at lvl 10 in their careers like an Astronaut, Scientist, Criminal, Chef and painting. Well wishes to you and best regards, Mel.

That makes sense, a broad well diversified base of highly successful sims. I find it hard to stick with a given household very long so the highest level job holder is around level 4. Do have a couple of top level archeologists, though, so that is beginning to pay off. Didn't know about the mod, thanks for mentioning it. Will check it out. All best,
