Are they phasing Origin out? Should I just only use the new EA app? How do I stop Origin from loading automatically cause you can't have both active on your computer at the same time.
I'm staying on Origin, but also have EA App installed.
With Origin, I can edit the lots in game in The Sims 3 Create a World tool. EA App opens the game normally (with launcher), thus making me unable to edit the lots in the world I'm creating.
I've noticed for the past several times I've tried to load the game using the new app, that it comes back with a message my game failed to load and to try again later. Face/palm. Oddly enough, it loads just fine with Origin. Oh, well. I do hope they work the bugs out soon. In the meantime, I suppose if all else fails, I've got an an icon for Sims 4 that allows me to get into the game. Unless, that requires Origin to use.
Oh my. I just noticed when I tried "Repair" on the EA app it deleted my Origin completely. Thanks EA for a job well done. Now I can't play any of your games.
For those of you playing along at home: I deleted everything and redownloaded the app and now it's working. Whew. To paraphrase Capt. Kirk "for how long though, for HOW long?"
I'm still on Origin. I'll only move when/if I have to. When they switched from the EA Downloader to Origin, I lost a bunch of packs and had to deal with customer service for a long time trying to fix it, only to discover some packs were no longer supported. I didn't get them back until they released Sims 2 Ultimate Collection. (They did give me a free Sims 3 pack as a way of reimbursing me). I also lost all the stuff I'd purchased in the Sims 2 store and didn't get that back until years later.
As an aside, does anyone else find it humorous that they had an "EA" app, went to Origin, and are now going back to an "EA" app?
I'm still using Origin. I won't change until I have to either.
I'm wondering how the change over will happen; if I physically have to do it, or one day I go to play and the EAApp will automatically take over. *shrugs*
But why on earth couldn't they rather announce the date before it happens? I'm in the middle of a video project with a deadline, and I really don't have the time to risk any sorts of delays when it comes to accessing my game. If I knew it would happen today, I would have switched the past weekend...
Mine still opens in Origin w/o an option to update. Origin was the only way I could play Sims3 and all my purchased items. Now if 4 would hurry up and add horses!!

Origin starts as usual on my PC and I can play Sims 4 through Origin without issues. Also that message shown in the quoted post doesn't appear. Might be different in other parts of the world and perhaps it's only a matter of time until this happens also at my location. But for now everything works as expected.

We've been in the process of migrating users in waves from Origin to the new EA app on Windows since mid October. You'll eventually see a message like the one above pop up when launching Origin now that the EA app is no longer in Beta.
You can read more about the new EA app on EA.com here, and if you run into any issues or if you have feedback to share please do let us know here so we can take a look and let the right teams know.

@EA_Cade I'm curious if the delay on the switchover for Macs has anything to do with the new Apple M1 chipset. I doubt they would answer but as I'm finding out recently Macs like mine, which is only 2 years old, that have Intel chips are running into a wall with new programs only working with the new M1 chips. If the EA App launches for Macs anytime soon will we be required to have Apple's chips in order to run the app and play our old Sims games? I'm sure Rene will require it, but Rene is also a long way off, the app isn't and it's a worry.
Well, all I can say is that last several times I've tried to use the App, the game couldn't launch. Face/palm. I do hope that whatever the problem was, it's been fixed. I've also noticed that for a couple of weeks, now, Origin no longer has the warning that it's going away. What is going on? I will try both ways today.
I've already switched over to the new EA app over the weekend as I got a new PC and when I typed in Origin to download, it came up as the new EA app. So it's installed as well as my saves from TS4 as I had backed them up on an external Disc drive. I just need to move over what little bit of CC to my file and get my mods back...
I had an unpleasant surprise today when I wanted to open my game. I had a popup telling me that I have to install the application. I can do nothing if I do not accept. I do not like that at all. I did not get good feedback from people who have already used EA app.

@LeGardePourpre I was not in a hurry either but it seems I do not have the choice. I cannot make the pop up close and I cannot access my game. So......
Yep, fired up Origin today and have been finally "forced" to download and install the EA app.
Let's see what sort of mess this makes!
Edit, 5 minutes later.
It's black, the interface is not at all nice to look at, it seems clunky compared to the origin interface, I hope they change that soon.
