Wait what? Didn't they say that they are years away from a release? 😂 Crazy to imagine that they have something playtest ready for outside people.

Insider Gaming also provided the official email that EA Playtesters were given. It includes new information including:

Objects customization tool is currently called “Workshop”
Apartments are a thing in The Sims 5
Playtesters can already share and download creations!

Well that makes me super happy that they are actually going to allow the "average Jane/Joe" to test things way BEFORE releasing it so they can squash any major bugs along the way.

Plus, it's such a really good idea because people will be playing on different platforms with totally different specs.

So Kudos EA/MAXIS! Way To Go!

I am quite surprised that playtesting is already happening this early in development. I figured it wouldn't be happening until about a year from now. So them starting this early on, could make this version turn out to be the best one yet!

    Sign up for the Playtest!
The team at Maxis has been hard at work developing new innovations for The Sims. You’re invited to test out a pre-alpha experience for Project Rene. We’re looking to make this the best experience possible, and we can’t wait to get your feedback and hear your what you think.

This playtest will focus primarily on our new object customization tool currently called “Workshop.” This tool is meant to help you customize objects to decorate an apartment. We encourage you to share your creations as well as download what other players have made. And to experience everything this playtest has to offer, remember that you can play without your friends!

Please note that this early experience is only one aspect of what Project Rene will grow to be.
We encourage you to join sessions with your friends and/or join the private playtest Discord (invitation to follow) to find new friends to play with. As a trusted, Community Playtesting member, you are eligible to invite up to 3 friends to sign up for this playtest. More information and instructions are included in the registration form.

I just signed up for playtesting but the only available enrollment is for a revival of a 2007 skateboarding game creatively titled, Skate.

That's very nice of them to include playtesting early in development, that's a good way to get feedback early and make possible changes, something that is harder to do later in development.

I assume that people that do sign up will sign an NDA and will not be able to talk about Project Rene.

Did any of the prior Sims games have playtesting?

EA was looking for Sims playtesters back in 2020. Not sure if it was for 4 or 5.

    From Insider Gaming

SIMS 5 “PROJECT RENE” IS AVAILABLE ON PC, CONSOLE, AND MOBILE

Sources, who gained access to the playtests have shared that the current playtests are for both the PC and mobile devices, suggesting that Sims 5 will be available across all platforms.

It’s understood that small issues have caused the Sims 5 PC Playtest to be delayed by several days, however, the Sims 5 mobile tests have continued.

Supported Mobile Devices for the playtest include:

    Samsung Galaxy S10 and Newer
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and Newer
Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Newer
Samsung Galaxy Tab A10 and Newer
    Google Pixel 5 and Newer
    Samsung A11 and Newer

A big unknown is whether the whole Sims 5 game is playable on mobile or if certain features can be played on mobile. There is a difference between the two. From the Summit, we just know that mobile elements will be there. And nothing really new was learned from this article besides the supported mobile devices.

But the mere fact that they are playtesting with mobile does not answer the question of whether or not the full game is playable on mobile.

Personally, I hope the answer is "no" as "yes" points to cloud gaming or a very limited game.

Does this mean that Mac players will be left out like they were in Sims 3? We had to wait months until the game was released for Mac players, while PC player were able to play right away.

Not necessarily. PC can sometimes be a bucket that includes Mac.

Leak showed up recently from last playtesting session. Might be awhile until the next one.
I have been playing The Sims since 2001, when Livin Large came out. My avatar deliberately looks like Chris Roomies from TS1.

I hope the leak does not discourage future playtests but rather encourages better security.
