I thought you must have painstakingly worked on each individual square. I think it's got a really cool 70's vibe.
There was some individual square manipulation, but not painstaking at all. 🙂 The rectangular marquee tool makes it super easy to select any size square/rectangle you want and then apply effects to just the part you have selected. The circular version of that tool helped create the round lighting effect in the background. It’s basically 4 Photoshop layers; from bottom to top: a gradient layer, a lighting effects layer, a texture layer, and then the sim image on top. I just play around with layer types (overlay, multiply, color dodge, etc) until something strikes my fancy. It’s the most relaxing past time ever, my favorite time waster. 😄

This is my favorite time waster too. I have about a 100 plugins and know how to use about 10 of them. lol
Elle's bandages should come off tomorrow. In light of what happened, Elle decided to have rhinoplasty to give herself the nose she's always wanted. Please check back tomorrow for the reveal. In the meantime, Robert would like to ask you something...
Elle has decided to have reconstructive surgery to put her nose back as it was before.
Sorry for the crudeness of the last few jokes, but...
EDIT: I've only been playing the Sims for about a month, and I just now found that it has a screenshot feature built into the game. Why didn't someone tell me about this! This is a game changer for me.
Until now, I've being doing print screens with the clipboard on my computer, requiring 3 keys, and ms paint just to save a shot into a folder. This screenshot feature is going to be fantastic!
I'm working on a new build right now, but as soon as it's finished, I'm going to move my sims into it and maybe start doing some full screencaps instead of these cut out sim shots.
Lol, I just got caught up on Elle’s adventure. Not to be shallow, but I’m really glad she got that nose fixed up! 😄
I still use print screen to take pics because the in-game camera doesn’t capture ReShade effects. Since you like playing with screenshots, too, I think you would love ReShade! If you don’t already have it and want to see what it can do, do a Google image search for sims 4 reshade presets and look at all the beautiful effects you can get. I ♥️ ReShade! I think there’s another post-processor out there - some people like it better - but I can’t remember the name. Maybe someone will come in and tell us. 🙂
Hi, and thanks for the suggestion. I googled some images of reshade and it seems to lighten things up nicely. I'll have to do some research because I'm not sure what it is, exactly, and where to find it, but yeah, I'll definitely look into that!
Here’s just a quick comparison using the game save I have open right now (note: the depth of field effect is simple to turn off if you need/want a totally sharp/clear image; I set a hot key for mine so I can toggle DOF on and off by just hitting caps lock.) When I decided I MUST have ReShade, I did a search for ‘how to install ReShade in Sims 4’ and found several great step-by-step videos - it’s not hard at all with their help! 🙂 And they provide links for where to download.

Thanks again (do people call you sleep or something else?). I just watched a couple of youtube videos and read all about it at a website. I really want this but OMG, you'd have to be a rocket scientist to install it!
If I've learned one thing about computers over the years, it's that step by step instructions never match what I find on my computers. But I've got to have it now that I know about it... thank you so much! lol
I've got a gamming/computer geek in my family that can download this for me, no problem.
I'm learning so much from you. Thank you.
That was it! Forgot the name but I know some people like it better.
Oooo, good that you’ve got somebody to help you get it installed because you’re gonna love it! It’s very likely that once it’s installed and you start messing around with it, you’re going to figure a lot of things out as you go. It’s actually very easy to tweak presets, like if the person who made the preset used two mxao shaders and the shadows and shading are darker than you want, you can always turn one off, that sort of thing. You never know, you may end up making presets yourself! Oh and I don’t have a shortened version of my user name, but I would answer to sleep or even just ‘hey you’. 😄
simsinmysleep, can you recommend your two favorite presets for me? Presets that you think I'd like?
I've successfully downloaded the reshade program and now I'm at maxis match cc world trying to decide which presets to download. The choices are a little overwhelming. I thank you so much!
EDIT: Might those two presets you show in your example above be the two for me? My computer won't allow Elenora and couldn't find the other one at Maxis match cc world.
I did however pick one that I like and it's working. I like how the background in your two are blurred. Did your reshade automatically do that or did you have to tweak it?
The blurred background is done with depth of field shaders that you can turn on and off as you need. When you have the ReShade menu open in your game and you have a preset loaded, look at the list of shaders - the ones that are checked off are the ones in use. Now look for shaders with ‘DOF’ in the name - those are your depth of field shaders and it’s as simple as clicking in the box next to one! 🙂
You might see:
ADOF [qUINT_dof.fx] (usually my favorite)
CinematicDOF (but sometimes this one works best for me depending on the scene)
FocalDOF
I think I found most of my presets by searching on YouTube for sims 4 ReShade preset and the videos were usually by the creator and included links for downloading. That was a great way to check them out and see what they really look like before downloading. I have a bunch, but honestly, I use Utopia Skies 99% of the time, lol. 😄

Hey you! lol. You are so Awesome! Thank you so much for the links. I'll be sure to use your links to get them from the creators. That was a great little tut you just gave me.
It's a shame we don't have wish lists in this game because I'd buy you something, to say thank you.
Hey you! I downloaded reshare and Eleanore 3 times, but each time it failed to load all of the effects and the picture was horrible. Anything even slightly dark became jet black.
Finally, I said forget this, uninstalled reshare and downloaded Gspot and a preset with no problems. They were much easier installations too.
I'm so happy you told me about this. It'll make a big difference in my screencaps.
So, I'm back to my build, but I'll post again in a couple of days. I would love to see some of your reshades in the meantime.
Hey, @ElleMonAmour i’m glad you got GShade working for you - I might have to try that one myself one day just to compare. Usually (I think) when effects fail to load it just means you’re missing some shaders. That happened to me once and when I went back to the creator’s site to see if anyone else had the problem, I noticed that the creator had said, ‘you’re gonna need these shaders’ and had linked to where to download. I still get the ‘some effects failed to load’ message on some of my presets, but I’ve been too lazy to track down the missing shaders because I’m still getting results that look like the example pics so i just go ‘meh’, and keep playing. 😄 But a super dark screen would be unplayable, for sure. I’m probably using an older version of ReShade and that could make a difference, too. I know some of my presets were originally made for Sims 3!
Oh well, it actually sounds like GShade is MUCH less bother, so I think you’ll really enjoy it. There are some beautiful presets for it. I can’t wait to see your results! 😃
Yeah, I'm loving my Gshade. I've been asking questions and reading up on screenshots all day. I'm planning to make some non-transparent pics soon. Backgrounds give you a lot more things to consider when making a screenshot. I love a good challenge though.
EDIT: Did you all know that Robert and Elle preform music together as an avocation?
Elle sings my favorite aria, Song to the Moon.
*That was just too much work for a single pic. Now I remember why I started cutting out the backgrounds in my shots.

Lol, but it’s gorgeous - don’t stop now! 😄 That second one looks like a classical painting. The performance hall/stage is beautiful! More, more! *cheers you on*

You flatter me, but thank you! I thought I'd give this a second go. I think I like this one better, Idk.
Okay, this is cool - the other day, I had the thought that Elle reminds me of Michelle Pfeiffer and so I see this pic and think ‘The Fabulous Baker Boys’. 😀. Very nice!

I've got to find some new jokes!

@ElleMonAmour , darn, that’s a shame Elenora won’t work for you. Maybe try downloading it directly from the creator, here: https://talentedtrait.tumblr.com/post/668212851357466624/the-eleanora-reshade
And you can get Utopia Skies from the creator here: http://www.fantayzia.ca/p/mod-reviews.html

Haha! Elle learned that lesson years ago when she had a major wardrobe malfunction during half time at a football game. She'll never live that down.
Siminmysleep said: "I had the thought that Elle reminds me of Michelle Pfeiffer"
Oh wow, I'll take that compliment, on behalf of my avi of course! lol
EDIT: Thank you guys for all the support!
