    :D

Okay that's a new one. Never seen that before... So congrats to you for inventing a shiny new build mode glitch! Bwahahahaha!

(apologies for laughing at your obvious misery and frustration, but it's just too dang funny to resist!)

Okay, now that my laughing has subsided, time to roll up the sleeves.

    Things to check:
    - is the ground perfectly flat under and around the area?
    - is there a basement below?
    - is there a glitchy cc item preventing the stairs from snapping to the foundation? (ie: glitchy invisible cc blocking the area)
    - have you tried moving the stairs over one tile to see if they'll place correctly?
    - have you tried reducing the stairs to a single tile width to see if they will snap in that way?
    - have you tried deleting the stairs and adding them new again?

I wonder if the problem is coming from the height of the floor? If you look at the wall next to the front door, it looks like the porch is at a lower height than the top of the foundation, and the stairs are trying to lead up to the level of the top of the foundation.

    The stairs. Why? :'(

Oh my plumbob, I have a porch staircase that does this!

I'll play fine for a while, then out of nowhere, POP! Sims are going upstairs, then down one last step. I thought mine was because of a platform in the next room, but yours doesn't even have a next room. Maybe it's a new glitch with columns?

Either way, I delete the stairs, replace them, save, and carry on.

@GrumpyGlowfish If you upload it to the gallery, could have a look at it. Say what lot and world it is in also.

You mean that grey line at the bottom of the wall? No, that’s part of the wall texture.

Anyway, I think I've figured it out. The problem only occurs when the stairs go all the way to the left corner of the porch, and remains even if I make them smaller afterwards, as seen in the screenshot I posted. This probably happens because of a platform on the other side of the wall to the left. Why the stairs try to connect to a platform they are not even supposed to touch rather than prioritising the porch they're leading to is yet another of the many mysteries of TS4 Build Mode, but since this isn’t the first time platforms have given me trouble lately, I will build without them in the future until a modder manages to correct the mistakes in their programming.

No, that is not the top of the porch, but the top of the stairs, which is the very problem. Take another look at it, I think you'll see I'm right.

@GrumpyGlowfish Have you tried adding the stairs, first and then adding the platform?
