Ok, I haven't done one of these since the university pack I believe BUT I am genuinely curious how everyone will rate this pack in particular.

Please remember, though, as always: this is supposed to be a helpful thread for those who are still on the fence about buying this pack. Also: feel free to voice your opinions, but don't go attacking others for theirs. And try to be at least a tiny bit objective ;)

So, without further ado: on a scale from 1 to 10 - 1 being "I wish I could return this atrocity" and 10 being "Simtastic, best pack ever" - how would YOU rate High School Years?

Honestly I'm having fun with it so far. There are some disappointing aspects such as not many teens being at school, and the small bugs I'm getting but other than that it's a pretty good expansion so far.

Yeah I absolutely agree! Still on the fence about my rating but I'm leaning towards an 8 for now. I'm just so hyped that teens finally have a life in TS4 xD I love social bunny for them, and I actually don't really mind that there's nothing really to do during class - it's kinda short anyway but I do like that they get such varied skills. My sim learned about Selvadorada in her culture class (don't remember exactly what it was called ^^). The pier is lovely, the new activities are nice, and again: teens finally have their own stuff to do, and that alone is

I gave it a 5 because it can use some improvements on the class room like watch our sim doing a real with consequences dentition and popups matching the visual game play. Also I really wanted my sim to have a graduation ceremony but I couldn't make it happen. I don't know why.

I gave it a 7, but I probably should have given it an 8. It might be my favorite pack ever for CAS & build/buy, but you literally have more options when you don't follow your sim to school than when you do, lol.

I give it a 5. Great build buy, nice CAS, pretty world, new party type, new lot types and a new career. Overall I think it will be fun to play-through. I don't rank it higher for three reasons:
    • 1) The pack is called high school but doesn't offer much in terms of HS and neither does it offer unique enough game play to help teens feel different from playing a young adult.
    • 2) The game play is rather shallow and a lot of it is because there is little to no cross pack integration
    • 3) While the pack does offer very nice things, what it offers in terms of content comes off feeling more like a game pack then it does an expansion.

I gave it a 5 because I agree with Mr_MuffinTop on all counts.

The other thing I don't like is that I created teen sims to be friends with my main character and they don't even show up on the lot to play with. If I go in and play them, then my main character doesn't go to high school. If there was a way to pick and choose which high school students attended the school (or if all teens in the game living in houses attended automatically) the game would be more enjoyable to me. I would also like to be able to choose who gets what locker even if they are characters I'm not playing. Also, we don't need to have a million proms. That's the the other thing I hate about the calendar. There's things that pop up that you can't delete, and if you avoid doing them, your sim goes straight into a negative mood. More freedom with the calendar is a must for me.... and maybe create middle school sims so you have an inbetweener, and actually have "years" and summer vacations so you can go through freshman to senior year - and attend university with friends with normal semesters, too. Just a thought.

I'm still waiting for my sim to go to a normal class, just as I feared she aged the day before the final exam so her first school day was an exam lmao.

I'm giving it a 5 it could have been a 10 easily had they actually given the player control with clubs and built-in systems to set school outfits and who attends also its severely lacking cross pack integration content is shallow when it really did not have to be a lot of the game play is there just locked out of high school.
Sims 4 went from "You Rule" to "One of the stories we want you to tell"

After just a few hours playing I hovered somewhere between 5 and 6.

In the end I went with 6 because I feel the pack has genuine replayability with the new careers, prom, new activities and objects, etc.

Where it falls short for me ironically is the high school aspect. No club gatherings, no schools in other worlds (without mods), different teens and teachers on a daily basis, rabbithole after school clubs, only four after school clubs. The whole school experience should have been so much more immersive and customisable than it sadly is. And sorry EA that school building is gross.

I have spent a bit of time playing, I am enjoying the parts of the pack that work correctly, but I have been hit with the travel bug, the aging bug and the bug that prevents prom from actually starting. I haven't gotten to graduation yet, so don't know if that will bug out for me or not. I have spent a full week in school and both my teens are showing full progress with the check to move from C to B, but that hasn't happened yet either. I would give it a higher score, more 8 or 9 if it weren't for the bugs.

    Nice but not amazing.

Once again Expansion Packs always lack of depth.

I voted for "meh". No bad no good either. Dull, I'm already bored with going to school. I like BB stuff and Trendi. Social Bunny is annoying, my phone constantly has glowing dot. But interactions between teens are fun.

I'd like to say that I was supposed to work late but I'm weak and downloaded the pack anyway when it came out, then played it for about 3-3.5 hours and I haven't really discovered that much yet. I've just been having so much fun having teens that don't bore me to tears. It's actually fun to play a teen now, with their activities and dances, crushes, FINALLY being asked to have relationships (aka random events that I don't have to painfully orchestrate myself), social bunny (yes the texts are repetitive but I love teenagers just out of the blue sending mean / romantic / weird stuff to each other - more random stuff), classes (I don't even really mind that they're not truly active, they are short anyway, and I rarely used these social options in TS3 uni - but I still think they should have added them for those that did), a school day I can join them for, .. . They finally have hobbies and events that are kind of unique to them and boy did we family players need this in our games. It's kinda why I love things like laundry, knitting and vacuuming in my game for elders as well xD

Anyway, TL;DR: does the pack have some issues? Yeah definitely. Is it good? I think most family players will absolutely love this.

But, I do think there are as always a couple of weird missed opps that I do want to detract some points for, most notably:
    • No proper integration with Parenthood (why sims team, why?)
    • I understand us only having one high school, and I'm glad we can edit it, but I think they should have let us decide in which world we want the one high school to be. Copperdale ofc has the football field but we coulda just made it a sports venue or whatever. I don't think I would even use this feature a lot BUT sometimes I play saves mostly in Sulani, and it would be cool to make a more tropical school to fit the vibe, even if it puts teens from Windenburg in the school. This is unfortunately the kind of customization (or at the very least an acceptable workaround) they like to skimp on, and it should be here.
    • Social Bunny: I like it actually, BUT, the messages are so repetitive. My sim's daughter died accidentally (my bad, didn't know she had rabid fever lol), and my sim was able to post about the death on social bunny but she didn't really get many reactions to it. It would be nice if friends of the family would also post about it, or at least send a DM with condolences. Also, why are there SO MANY messages about pillow fights? Even from adults? I hope they will add in more random sentences bc it seems to be drawing from a pretty small pool of possible messages.

5 for bringing life to the Teen life-stage.
0 for High School game play and immersion.

After the novelty wears off, I probably won't go to school with my sims anymore,
unless I get mods that increases the appearance of teens that actually live in the world, or better yet let me set a roster of who can appear.
Allows clubs to use the school after hours without limitations. Allows me to set school uniforms for everyday and active wear.

I gave it an 8 because I was surprised how much I have enjoyed it. I went in very sceptical as the reviews were very mixed. I have only played a few hours but I haven't noticed any bugs (my mods are disabled). Sure some improvements could be made with integrating previous packs but I'm having a lot of fun and feel like I have barely scratched the surface of the pack. I can't wait when I get off work to continue playing.

    CAS : 7.5
    BB : 8
    World : 3
    Gameplay : 3
    Bug and Glitches : 3
    Cross-Pack compatiblity : 2

    Rating : Around 4.

It's pretty and i like that we get to see our teens in classes and stuff but it's mostly reused animations, glitches, empty gameplay and rabbit holes.

i gave it a 5 , because it is a nice addition to gameplay when you are tired of the same old gameplay, but there are a few issues for me, 1. the school is way too small for me, it only consists of two or three classrooms , and right now there is a bug that keeps you from building on the school site when you demolish it ( it thinks there is something there when there is not )\. 2 the track and football field are basically decorations, like there is no option to run the track or play football. 3 the amusement park is nice, but as people said it is basically pointless, because when your sims go on the rides they just disappear for a couple of real live minutes, if they fixed the errors and made the track and football field usable and made it so you can watch your sim on the rides, i would rate the pack higher

I love some of the new build/buy items especially the new streaming computers. I would have rated higher if not for the bugs.

I will not rate the pack until its fixed! It would not be fare to rate a game before I can play it the normal way
  • LaBlue0314LaBlue0314 Posts: 17,428 Member
I played it a bit shortly after it was released. I was a bit excited at first about something dealing with teens. Not crazy about the whole sexual orientation part of the game. I usually play with a long life span, so until they fix this aging bug, I'll be putting this game on the back burner. I didn't vote because at the moment I couldn't give a fair and honest review.

I'm enjoying it a lot. I've had so much fun with playing teens now. The aging bug is annoying and I can't play my regular families because I don't want to risk my saves, but the temporary save that I've been playing works well with aging off completely.
I don't have more game breaking bugs and even high school actions don't seem to have any huge problems.
I haven't tried everything yet, so maybe there will be some hiccups later, but my first impression of HSY is very good. :)

I think solid 7. In my opinion it’s similar to Snowy Escape, because despite being literally for teens, it’s pretty limited and not integrated with other packs like Parenthood. It sort of floats in the air. But as it is, it works well with few hiccups here and there.

I think school lot being so big is waste of space. I would prefer smaller school as this monster isn’t necessary, and have one more lot with some sort of after school activity. Maybe active football and cheer or all of the extra classes?

I’m disappointed with townies, after werewolves pack where we got some truly unique sims. Here the only one that’ shines is Ash (both story and design), others feel super generic, even principle and her daughter.

I like the fact that all pre made teens attend school and they can finally meet in one place together. I wish they could truly actively participate in class, but I’m not super salty about how it is. At least they gain some skills during class so it’s not complete waste.
The pier is fantastic, my fav location in this pack especially creepy music from Ferris wheel. I like the randomness of cuddle cart that they can literally lost some romance. My sim got pop up about corny design inside, which was hilarious. New clothes for females are great, male part is disappointing especially hair department. My sim had a son and I play HS with him so I’m a little sad that his mom got cooler clothes and hair from new pack than he did.

I can’t give it higher score because to fully have the HS and teen experience I need other packs, namely Get Together (clubs, parties) and Parenthood (interactions with family and other teens).

Edit: and social bunny is fun for the first time, like first 2 hours of playing and then messages start to repeat and have absolutely nothing in common with life events. Example: my teen is the party animal teen so I made him organize dance party in the night club. It went well he became fast friends with all attending teens. I was 100 % sure there will be option to post about it on social bunny but it wasn’t. Instead the game told me:” go out and experience something to talk about it.” In moments like this the spell is broken and shallowness comes to the surface. But it’s a nice storytelling feature anyway. Just wish it could be more in sync with my sims, not so freaking generic.

I have only had time to look at cas and build mode so can't rate it for the full pack yet. But its a 10 super simtastic for what I saw in cas and build mode :) will come back and poll rate it once I had gameplay time ;)
