Prom every week?

«1
Is prom going to be at the end of every week? It kind of looked that way on the stream.
I imagined it at the end of school but I don’t play a typical lifeline and my teens stay teens for a long time. Does this mean several proms or one prom when you decide it’s time to graduate?

Unfortunately prom and exams will be every week it looks like.. You will have several proms until your teen sims graduate. The only thing we know at the moment is you don't need to attend prom every week.

I would hope so so your sim has a better chance of being asked to the prom.

I saw there is an option to graduate early and also to drop out of school. So if you play with aging off, you don't need to send a teen to school every day.

Teens can drop out now? That's new. I needed to use a mod to do that.

I mean, I'm tempted to go in and change the "prom" room every week - or at least every time I have a sim who ends up attending.

My school's prom was for Juniors and Seniors, so having two proms isn't that weird to me. And then there were the other school dances. Yes, they call it prom, but you don't have to treat it like Prom for every occurrence.

I wonder if we can change the attire from formal to party or something else. Would be nice to be able to have just regular teen parties with juice kegs, dancing and making out.

can we delete the prom event entirely off the calendar? i do this with that 'speak like a pirate day' thing
  • SilentKittySilentKitty Posts: 4,567 Member
I am very interested in this detail. My sims live in a world that moves forward very very slowly and I don't want to have prom all the time. What happens if I chose not to go? Will there be a lot of talk about prom each week by the class mates even if you don't go to prom that week? We will see what happens.

    Without mods you can’t.

Don't consider it a Prom every week, think of more as a High school dance every week ( Spring Fling, Winter Formal, Homecoming etc.)
  • crocobauracrocobaura Posts: 6,309 Member
You could also consider that it's another school's dance.

In the livestream, it sounded like you can change the decorations in between each dance, so while the text strings always say prom, it’s possible to change the theming each time so it looks like a different dance time. I’m already planning on giving my teens multiple formal outfits - like a long dress for prom and a short one for homecoming.

I’d imagine it’s also easy to skip if the household needs to do something else that night, like the current festivals. Even if the other kids are talking about it, it’s probably easy to ignore.

You probably will still be stuck with prom interactions (dances, the whole promposal thing, prom queen and so on)

I assume some of those things are optional though. I imagine you can ignore them like you can ignore tasks on dates and weddings (the original kind, I don't know about the ones in the wedding pack).

On normal lifespan this means a sim will have prom twice while they are teens, which you can treat as either junior and senior prom, or a homecoming and a prom, or skip the first one because they are too young and go to the second one. But it will be odd with long or aging off.

My concern would be if my younger teens from the household I am not currently playing would show up at prom when I think they're too young.

Changing the theme and our Sims' attire every week would be a nice touch. Then we could play it as a celebratory casual dance after the football team won the game that night. In my part of the country there were dances being held almost every weekend at the high schools and the middle schools. There were the normal seasonal dances, proms, winter formals, and the after-game celebrations. Friday night dances were more casual where the proms and formal dances were usually held on Saturday nights, and everyone wore formal attire. During the school year we seldom went without having something going on every weekend. And with five kids of my own, I lost count of how many times I chaperoned at those events.

I'd like it more if we can decide when prom events are held on the calendar.

Not sure what they were thinking really, not letting it just be an event we can place on the calendar ourselves.

I believe I saw a SimGuru post an answer that prom is every week so if you have a sim joining high school at any time they have an opportunity to attend prom. I think this is great for those of us who play rotationally. I plan to have a different dance theme for each season like my high school had. If my sim at the time isn't interested then they won't go to the dance. I like that they decided to do this as gives everyone the opportunity to attend a prom. Would have been nice though to have made the prom an option on the calendar so player can determine if and when it is scheduled. Maybe the way the gameplay works limited that option? I don't know the mechanics of making things work in the games. Though we are able to schedule wedding events.

I think what I might do is create two versions of the auditorium building. One will be a generic party setting.
The other one will be a full decked out Extravagant Prom setting.

I will treat all the other proms as fun rehearsal parties, but the final prom before my sims graduate will be the actual prom.
And I will just plop down the true building the week of the prom. That way I won't have to keep redecorating the two different proms.

You can do that with rooms as well; so that why the exterior stays the same. Also the lot type is similar to the maker lot where it will change the inside based on the event.

Agree with everyone else that it would have been so much easier if prom was an event we scheduled on the calendar if we wanted it. So so many players from so many countries do not have a prom or anything like it, seems odd to have it forced. I personally hated prom, but back then it was 100% presumed hetero, the most daring thing anyone did was the guy who came in full Scottish formal dress, a formal kilt and all.

Hey that would be so cool as an option for men for formal wear! I saw a guy in a casual modern kilt, it was Ike, canvas with a hammer loop.
    Like a Carharrt Kilt 😄

I went to school in the 70s and it was mostly awful, but the one thing they did right was the monthly school disco
