@Metior_Ice Not mine but yours. Look who showed up outside of the PBP Studios Lounge possibly hoping for a glimpse of the stars, after the Starlight Accolades Show lets out.
@GalacticGal Every time I see my merfolk show up in your save, I’m even more convinced that I need to go through my households and change the order of their outfits.
I wonder if they will continue to use their mermadic attire all the time?

Oh, Juniper had a conversation with Zeph about celebrities in my save. Did Erik chat with Zeph? Did Zeph meet any celebrities! I’d love to try and do another cross over if possible!
I haven't played with Mermaids in a while. I need to start back especially since the Little Mermaid is coming to theaters. That might give me some ideas for the game.
@Kerrigan I still haven’t seen any sims destroy sandcastles in my saves. So, I thought it was awesome to see this. Wonder what kind of day led to this?
@Kerrigan I still haven’t seen any sims destroy sandcastles in my saves. So, I thought it was awesome to see this. Wonder what kind of day led to this?
She should do it autonomously. She's a deviancy sim and she has an under the hood trait called Sinister which ups her chances of doing mischief or being mean. I just stopped in to see what she's up to - she's been at the gym!!!
Not sure if the image will post, but my merman is currently muse and underwear model for my other artistic photography Sim 🤭 They are traveling to the nicest spots around the World to pose lol. This is basegame with no CC so shouldn't be rated anything over T.
The gallery walls aren't full yet, we got some more adventuring to do, lol.
Here's a regular photo of him though, cause like wow.... Seriously outdid myself 😶
Started a new save recently and my new sim's first trip to the beach went well until she built a sandcastle and upset Kalamainu'u. She hates sandcastles!
I did a few crazy things in my game, and if there was a way to do these things glitch free, I would be so excited! Unfortuantely, these aren't normal things merfolk are supposed to do, so they result in buggy swimming and walking on water that is easily reset by going on land.
Using the BB.Moveobjects cheat, I put a chair underwater and managed to get Calum to sit in it.
After some success with that, I put a bed underwater, and I found that my merman could sleep in the bed underwater. This was huge because the normal merfolk ability to sleep in water doesn't speed up time. This might. I wish the bed fit a merfolk theme though.
I even almost got my twins to watch tv. lol.
Easels and WoodWorking Tables are also usable if they are underwater, but the interaction is just too buggy.
If these things didn't bug out the way merfolk move through water and the dirt cloud wasn't kicked up, I'd definitely make more use of this discovery. Unfortuantely, none of the build mode items are merfolk themed and simply look too funny underwater. For practical reasons, I'm thinking of keeping the beds underwater.
If I could get my merfolk to sit on a couch underwater, I can only imagine the possible underwater activities! Unfortunately, this requires cheats and has a number of problems for regular use.
I made an update to my merfolk build. This build actually triggers a bug they were tracking in the EA Help forums 100% of the time, so I shared my discovery there.
But, for the purposes of showing off something I think is extremely epic!
Here's my underwater merfolk home!
I don't have a lot I can do with it, but it makes me hopeful that something can be done one day!
@mightysprite I had to use content from Outdoor Retreat, Werewolves, and Jungle Adventure to build this.
I don’t know if they can still be struck by lightning, Sulani has monsoons in the summer. I hope being underwater is enough to protect them.
I used a special kind of Island Living Grass, can’t spell the name off the top of my head, to simulate sea grass. I think it would be awesome to have some corals in build mode, but there’s only one kind of coral that can be accessed with cheats.
When I manually speed time up, the timer actually moves a little slower than the hyper speed triggered when sims sleep or go to work/school.
The build is unfortunately extremely buggy given that none of this should be possible with normal gameplay. It just looked so cool! I really wanted to share it!
Because I play on the console, I’m a little impressed at being able to do any of this. I can’t use mods or custom content.
@DaniRose2143 and @mightysprite Thank you. The build is difficult to use and while merfolk are underwater, they really can’t do anything. However, I feel like it does a good job of showing what merfolk could be with a bit of extra attention and ingenuity.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been looking for ways to find bugs and share any possible work around for the bugs I’ve experienced.
Right now, if I have my merfolk nap underwater, I have to send them to the shore to get them to swim as they are supposed to. Even after that, they struggle to get passed wading into the water.
Not many know this, but before a sim swims in the open world, they have to perform an interaction from an open water ladder or wade through the shallows. When they sleep underwater, there is no in between animation and sims start swimming while doing things they do on land.
Everything from walking on water to swimming with umbrellas open happens 100% of the time without that in between action. I imagine that the point in time when a sim is supposed to do something like close their umbrella or put their phone away happens when they enter the water via wading or using the open water ladder.
Most of the swimming through the ground happens because of a glitch with the open water ladder.
Also, open water ladders are the only ladders merfolk can’t use. They can easily use pool ladders. So Open World Water and Pools are a little different.
Putting the following in a spoiler because it’s off topic, but it might be worthwhile advice for anyone that writes a title for a book, video game, or thread.
The Sims use the term Mermaid for both the males and females in CAS. Mermaid is exclusively a female or feminine term. I can never understand why people confuse that so much.
Mermaid can be broken into the Root Word Maiden and the Prefix Mer.
So, whenever I do research on anything about Mermen AND Mermaids, Males and Females, Masculine and Feminine, I use specific terms based on what I expect to find.
If you look up the term mermaid, you will find millions of search results that are near impossible to effectively look through.
If you look up the term Merman, the results become easier to look through because Mermen are the minority gender and almost always include mermaids.
It’s exceptionally rare to find a merman in a story WITHOUT mermaids still taking front and center.
Most searches use Keywords in titles as well as descriptions to pull up results. If certain terms aren’t used, they essentially make helpful resources invisible. This is true for a great story too. If you write a story about a Merman and use the term Mermaid in the title, your story will get lost in the millions of results that will come up.
I can write an essay on the difference between the words, “Merman,” “Mermaid,” and “Merfolk” and why using the correct word matters. But, that might get boring.
I’m just saying that the terms are historically separated by gender. The Scandinavian Terms Havmand and Havfrue are good examples of that. Most popular merfolk are depicted as they appear in Scandinavian Lore. Might be the result of Hans Christian Andersen from Denmark, a Scandinavian Country.
Edit: A search of the term Mermaid in the Sims Forum brings up 983 results.
My love, my love, my fearless love, I will not say goodbye..
Sea may rise, sky may fall, My love will never die..
My heart, my heart, My drowning heart, Oh all the tears I've cried
Oh I may weep forevermore, My love will never die..
Oh, a friendly tip. If merfolk experience any of the swimming bugs below. The work around is to make them go onto the shore and have them go back into the water. While working on gameplay for my story, I tried to figure out how this bug happens, and I shared what I found, or what I think is happening, in the EA Help forums.
I managed to get the Umbrella thing to stop by having my sims use the Umbrella stand to put their Umbrella away. I can't imagine why Merfolk would need an Umbrella anyways.
I'm thinking of uploading my build for my merfolk home, but if you have your merfolk nap underwater like in the picture below, I wanted people to know how to work around the bug that will happen 100% of the time. For merfolk to nap underwater, it basically removes the inbetween interactions that transitions between walking on land and swimming, "Wade" and "Climb Ladder."
Edit: Merfolk can swim like normal carrying an Umbrella.
Merfolk have a weird way that they change into outfits going into work while still in the water. This also shows up when events start at home. During a Spooky Party, it's possible for merfolk to also change into a slightly random outfit when they change into a costume. This doesn't affect how they swim and they still look how they are supposed to when they take a human form.

I have paired up Nalani and Uku in an arranged relationship deal as not many mermaids exist then went in cas to give them children.
Worked too well I think, this is Marlon and Melody.
Time alone while the kids are at school.
I only took this cause it's a rare moment she prefers to be inside while relaxing.
All the sims err'day

The term Merman narrows it to 832.
Merfolk narrows things to 615.

Dylan was chuckling. I can't remember the exact interaction, but I imagine Zeph told Dylan a joke.
