1. I tried to enroll in a University dorm again when I was suppose to be packing to leave the dorm and the game totally deleted my sim. Luckily, I had a backup copy of that particular sim and they weren't in a big family tree.
2. I found out you can end up losing your sims to culling if you put them in other households. The game doesn't count the sims in the other households. They will disappear from the family tree.
Have you ever accidentally deleted your sims?

It also helps when you are with the games from the beginning. I owned 4 when they patched in My Households to prevent culling, which is why I have never left anything I cared about in Other.
Taught me to pay more attention to what I was clicking, I can tell you, and not to try to be too speedy as well.
Because I can't; I keep all sigs turned off.
that said i clean randomized sims out everytime i find myself in manage worlds so usually end or beginning of play session
and its mostly really premades and some premades from older sims games and like couple of my own sims so maybe i just don't get too close to the limit

That being said, it is my understanding* that your sims are less likely to be culled while in Other Households if they are housed or if they have high relationships with your played sims. So I try to keep an eye on those things for the sims in Other Households that I would prefer to keep, as well as periodically updating them in CAS and deleting randomly created NPCs that I don't want to keep. I wouldn't swear that those things will always work, but since I've been taking those steps, so far I haven't had any culled that I didn't want culled.
(*Based on what other people who are not gurus have said in the forums, so I can't swear it's true.)
Maybe I should get better at deleting.
Yeah, playing SIMS is a great way to spend time when dealing with a chronic illness but brain-fog is terrible thing.
Thankfully, I had already learned about backup saves...
I also suffer from restartitis, and I know what you're talking about. It's fairly tame now, but at its worst I had hundreds cluttering up my library.
I'm lucky, I haven't accidentally lost a favorite sim. Knock on wood, I have multiple backups of my absolute faves.
Stupid game deleted off 4 sims in 3 different households, including one that recently had triplets. Their mom just aged up her triplets into toddlers, and the next day the mother was gone!
I was able to retrieve a child that was deleted from an old save I had in a backup file from February, and I think I can retrieve another adult from it. However, I don't know how to save the mother of the twins and her roommate. I just made them last month for Asian-American month, so they won't be in the February save. And the oldest save I have from after I made them is from yesterday! (Six slots in the save file, and they are all the same day! My February save file had saves from a 3 day period, and now the game doesn't keep anything older than 24 hours?)
I'm seriously afraid to play this game until I can fine those 2 newer characters. I have been playing with them a lot recently, but the fame deleted them!!!
I thought I saved it twice, but ended up overriding another save file completely, and deleting the entire save.
Thankfully, I still have the families in my gallery, so I can just recreate the save file again, but it won't be the original version of it.
