Since our old introduction thread was as old as a withered cowplant, we thought we'd start a new one and catch you up on all the cool EA Simmers you can find across the forum!

Where are you from: Austin, Texas. Hi, how are you?

What games are you playing: Sims 4, obviously. Currently replaying Borderlands 2 with my fiancé for the umpteenth time :D and Ghost of Tsushima for the 1st time and really enjoying it.

What are you trying out in the Sims at the moment: I'm brand new to the Sims and I'm still learning so much!

What are your favorite games: Oh man, I'll always have a soft spot for Knights of the Old Republic but I think that's going to have to go to Fallout: New Vegas. Last time I looked I had about 500 hours into that game on Steam.

What else are you into when you're not Simming: Constantly running around to make little adjustments to my TV setup, PC setup or little around the house improvements. Forever hunting an RTX 3070 :p

The structure/categories of the forums is something we constantly think about. Having different categories on a forum provides a clear separation between the different types of topics, but when you have too many categories, navigating a forum can become overwhelming, confusing and unnecessarily difficult.

For that reason, we often review which categories here on The Sims forums are the most active ones, which ones are not that active anymore, which are causing confusion, etc. Keeping a balance between the amount of categories we have and how active these are is very important.

Through the years, we have created new categories as needed here and there. We are more prudent when it comes to making changes to existing categories, we know that can cause confusion as well. However, some tidying from time to time is essential to maintain a healthy forum structure. This is why we will be implementing some changes during the following weeks:

New categories:
  • The Sims Franchise
    A new section to chat about The Sims games in general. This will be the space to discuss different generations of the game in a single topic or for those games that don't have their own category (e.g. 'Anyone still playing The Urbz or My Sims?', 'The Sims 3 vs The Sims 4 mermaids').
  • Archive
    Categories that are 'archived' (read-only) will be moved in here. For example, 'Community Stuff Pack Project'.

Changes to existing categories:
The Sims 4:
  • 'The Sims 4 Community Blogs' will be removed.
  • 'The Sims 4 PC Game Feedback' and 'The Sims 4 Console Game feedback' will be combined into a single category - console version of the game is almost the same as PC/Mac version by now! :smiley:
  • 'Expansion Packs', 'Game Packs' and 'Stuff Packs' are mostly active when a pack is coming/just released, and will be combined into a single category: 'The Sims 4 Pack Discussion', located inside 'Discussion' section.
  • 'Game Tutorials & Helpful Hints' is no longer used, and will be archived.
  • 'Artist Haven' and 'Video Haven' will be combined into a single category 'The Sims 4 Artist + Video Haven'.
The Sims 3:
  • 'Sims 3 Help Center Bugs & Issues' and 'Sims 3 Help Center iPhone & Mobile Discussions' are no longer used, and they will be archived.
  • 'Create a World' and 'Create a Pattern' will be combined into a single category 'The Sims 3 Game Tools', which will go inside 'The Sims 3 Creative Corner'.
  • 'Store Worlds', 'Store Discussion' and 'Store Tech Discussion' will be combined into 'The Sims 3 Store Discussion'
  • 'Expansion Packs' and 'Stuff Packs' will be merged into 'The Sims 3 General Discussion'
The Sims Mobile:
  • 'News and announcements', 'Game Feedback' and 'Social corner' will be combined into 'The Sims Mobile General Discussion & Feedback'
  • All The Sims FreePlay categories will be combined into 'The Sims FreePlay'
Other The Sims Games:
  • 'The Sims 2 General Discussion' and 'The Sims 2 Creative Corner' will now be 'The Sims 2'.

We will rename some categories for clarity and make some changes to the order in which some categories show on the main page as well. To give you some examples: 'General' section (except 'Forum rules') will be moved to the bottom of the list, and 'The Sims General Discussion' will be renamed to 'The Sims (2000)'. We want to make the navigation easier for everyone.

We will start applying these changes next week - I'll let you know here once we have finished.

Today we have updated the Rules and guidelines on the forums in order to make them even easier to understand and clearer for everyone. The updates are small and I'd ask you to go take a look here and here to make sure you are familiar with the rules again.

We would like to highlight this particular addition to the rules:
  • Keep it on-topic. If someone created a thread, it's because they're looking for an answer to their question or want to discuss a specific topic. Changing the topic of the thread isn't helpful.
    • This would include derailing a discussion about a game/game feature by turning it into a comparison of different games.
We have noticed a number of discussions about games/game features sometimes turn into game comparison discussions. Often this was not the intention of the user who opened the topic. When discussions become off-topic it has resulted in the creator of the thread asking for it to be closed far too often.

Want to discuss which generation had the best toddlers? That's great – and you should! In these cases, we’d ask you to please, instead of joining any thread related toddlers, for example, start your own comparison thread dedicated to having that specific conversation. This will help keep existing threads on topic, create a space for the conversation you’d like to hold and respect the desires of other members as well. Everyone wins!

We wanted to reach out to you and give you an update of some of The Sims language forums.

After lengthy discussions and carefully analysing data from active users, new posts, comments, and how the forums are being used and moderated, we’ve made the decision to sunset the following The Sims language forums: Czech, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish and Danish. We are also permanently closing and redirecting the Australian & New Zealand and Portugal Portuguese forums.

Our English The Sims forum and many other language forums will remain fully available and active.

This is never an easy decision to make and we thank you for your contribution to the community.

So, what happens next?
As of 27.08.2018, we will be locking the language forums for new posts. This means you will not be able to log in or add new posts, but you will be able to browse previously posted content. For Australian & New Zealand and Portugal Portuguese any links to discussions, posts, profiles will redirect to either the English or the recently unified Portuguese forums.

Hello all,

We wanted to give you an update on The Sims 4 Help Center section here on The Sims forums.

Starting from 20th of August 2018 we will be hosting The Sims 4 Help Center only on the Answers HQ forums.
A section will remain here on The Sims forums, but this will serve as a direct link to the Answers HQ.

All discussions so far created in The Sims 4 Help Center section will be moved to a read only area here on the forum called The Sims 4 Help Center Archive. This section will remain accessible to all, but no new posts can be created.

Why the change?

Consolidating all discussions of bugs and issues in a single forum will allow us to identify emerging issues much quicker, help us better prioritise bugs that are important or have a high impact to the community and makes it easier to communicate updates on issues and bugs to everyone.

We just wanted to let you all know that we are reducing the requirements New Members need to meet before they become fully fledged forum Members with all the standard permissions!

As of today (01/29/2018) a New Member will need to meet the following criteria to become a Member:
  • Get 25 Points
  • Make 15 posts
  • Must be a New Member for 1 day - this one stays the same.
I am also including a list of restrictions New Members have in the Spoiler below:
  • Cannot create new discussions/threads
  • Cannot start new Private Message conversations
  • Can only post in plain text - no links, images, quotes etc.
  • Cannot have an avatar
  • Cannot have a signature
  • Cannot edit any posts (including your own)

Some advice for new members:
  • Search for discussions that you would like to participate in, but be careful not to resurrect a thread that is ancient! This is called necro posting and is against the Forum Rules (more detail on this here).
  • Off Topic section has some fun long running threads that can help with post count! But don't spam - be mindful of the ongoing discussion/game and respond appropriately.
  • Forum Feedback & Ideas section has some wonderful threads where experienced and kind members are helping newer folks find their way in the forums.
