Hey Simmers! After a flurry of voting, we now know that eco living won and will be the theme that this pack centers around. But what about the four other Stuff Pack themes you were presented with... what happens to them?

Well, when we started putting this plan together to create a stuff pack with the community, we knew we'd need ideas that fit some of your most popular requests, as well as themes that we could reasonably develop within a stuff pack. When we typically start work on a new stuff pack, we hold a theme brainstorm that includes members of various disciplines... usually it's a combination of design, production, art, and marketing. From that brainstorm we'll usually select two themes and develop those ideas further. That's what you saw in the theme vote. For this project we wanted to capture more of the ideas that you've requested, so we worked on extra themes so that you'd have a range of options to vote on.

I'll let you in on a little development quirk we've faced. While the voting periods on this stuff pack take a full business week, internally these would be decisions we'd make in a day. Because we're developing this pack with help from all of you, we have to account for the extra time it takes to allow people to vote and gather their feedback. That doesn't mean that our development milestones can be adjusted to add in that extra time though. With a studio this large, and with so many moving parts, it's important that we stick to our schedule so as to not cause ripple effects on other development efforts. Keeping that in mind, we planned ahead and started to work on preparing art style choices for multiple themes, as we didn't yet know which one would win. Normally we would not start this work until our theme selection was locked. This allowed us to get ahead of schedule, and will make it possible to start the vote on the pack's Art Style this coming Monday, April 10th.

All five options that you voted on were themes that the stuff pack team would be happy to create. Having some initial concept art in place for them has only inspired us further as to the possibilities they offer. With the result of the theme vote though, concept work on the four themes that didn't win has stopped. Thankfully none of the work that was already done will go to waste. We'll file these ideas and pieces of art away for the future. Some of them may get made into a Stuff Pack eventually, some could be incorporated into a Game or Expansion pack, and some may simply catch our eye as an object or piece of clothing we want to create someday. I can't specifically tell you what will become of them, because we ourselves don't know yet.

Maybe the themes that didn't win this time have inspired you as well. If you'd like to continue sharing the possibilities they could offer, I'd ask you to discuss them further on the Ideas Corner section of these forums. Even though this Stuff Pack we're building together is now locked into the eco living theme, we always value your feedback regarding the things that you want to see in The Sims!

@SimGuruGraham, I spent some time this morning watching the replay of your live stream. I wanted to congratulate you and the team on the new stuff pack. You should be very proud of all the hard work and dedication I saw in the live stream walk-through. It is very impressive. I say a lot of things about the series, because I am passionate about the series and I believe you and the team did a great job and a very impressive intricate work on the pack. Not only with all the detail of the interactions and details of the objects concerned but with the intricate interactions with the other packs. Thank you and Maxis for allowing the community to take part in such a project, express their ideas, their feedback and to get a glimpse into how packs are made. I like to stay on the outer side because I like to believe it's all magic but I do find it very interesting to hear from you guys of how things are made and how it all comes together. This has been one very interesting project and though I have not commented much in this section, I have read how things were going, what was voted in or out and how much time it takes and how all the pieces have to fit together to bring it all to life.

I really do think you get players, especially deviant players like me, and this is a project the stuff pack team should really be very proud about since the community was allowed to lend their voice into a lot of the decissions of what would be included and how things should work to make them happy with a pack. For me, I like laundry everywhere, and a little disappointed they won't have to clean up that much, but I can understand how others wouldn't...I'm a deviant player so yeah, the tougher my Sims have it the better, I enjoy making them perservere Anyway, this is the most impressive stuff pack I have seen, and I always enjoy your live streams, and how you always try to let players and customers see into things we don't always understand. And for that my hat is off to you and the team, thank you for letting us participate and for taking the time to show an indepth look at this pack and how things work. It was one of the most informative live streams, and entire project I have had the privilege to be witness of. Thank you for the opportunity to vote etc. and see it all happen.

All the best!

I've seen people propose washing mashine woohoo, but I don't know how that would workout since I doubt sims could fit in a washing mashine.
However, they could fit in a hamper if hampers are big enough.
They could get flirty and one sim could push another playfully into the hamper. Then they could woohoo with dirty laundry flying around them concealing the act.
Kinda like the option we have for the dishwasher, that would be nice.

There was a livestream yesterday (or maybe today or the day before, depending on where you are; I don't know how timezones work) for Laundry Day Stuff. Laundry was done, fun was had, and a lot of questions were answered. However, I had stuff to do yesterday, so I wasn't able to catch the livestream while it was happening. I did go back and watch it later, but by that point I wasn't able to participate in the chat and ask questions live. So I thought I'd start a forum discussion in case anyone else who missed the livestream had a question they wanted to ask.

My question is this: Suppose I'm playing with more than one active household. Household 1 has a washer and dryer. I decide to leave Household 1 up to their own devices and go play with Household 2 for a bit. Will Household 1 continue to do laundry autonomously during that time, and if they do, will they forget to clean the lint tray and burn to death while I'm not there to watch over them?

First, as this week's blog announced, the official name of this Stuff Pack (as selected by you) is “The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff.” Out of tens of thousands of participants, this came down to an incredibly close result, with "Laundry Day" securing a razor thin 109 vote victory over "Rustic Lifestyle." Such a narrow margin of victory had us holding our breath to see which name would win right up until the final minutes of voting!

Officially, the title results were in the following order:

Laundry Day

Rustic Lifestyle

Rustic Home

Laundry

Also this week, we asked you to vote to select the official pack icon for The Sims 4 Laundry Day Stuff. Although the results of this vote weren't quite as close as the previous vote, there was still a spirited competition between the Washing Machine and the Laundry Basket. Ultimately, the Laundry Basket took the victory. While we're likely to still make some final tweaks in collaboration with our brand design agency, it'll largely resemble the icon from the survey.

The full icon result order is as follows. It turns out that people don't much care for socks... but I wonder if it would have turned out differently had it been just a single sock?

I've always been curious about the Sims that are already in the game before we start it. The starting families like the Goths, Pancakes, Behrs, Bjergsens, Delgatos etc.

Is it possible to share some inside look on who comes up with these Sims and their backstories and all? It's such a commonly overlooked thing but I'd genuinely love to know the creative process that goes into these Sims!

Washer and Dryer for short in the title. XD Since I've seen suggestions for anything for this pack... I planned a new suggestion for this idea. Since I like upgrades to make things easier in your home. Bring your ideas/suggestions here for the Simmers who likes the Handiness. ;-)

Unbreakable is the most obvious, but I was thinking some special addiction for these appliances like Faster Washing/Drying cause I'm thinking we're getting one type of these machines. In Sims 3, only the washer can have different speeds to clean depending on the model you buy. Dryers can't be upgraded at all. And also in the Sims 3 again, the unique upgrade for the machine is the Clean Polymer Injection System which makes Fresh Clothing moodlets longer, but that upgrade was a little too strong. Meaning that if you washed too frequently, that moodlet never goes away and your Sims stayed too happy for too long, and if your hygiene was too low and change your clothes at anytime, it refills 3/4 of the hygiene motive. Too strong.

So what your thoughts and ideas for suggestions for unique upgrades? I brought up the Faster Washing/Drying upgrade, which I believe that's gonna the other obvious option. XD

Hey @SimGuruGraham or any other devs that this question should be addressed to.
Most game assets can be accessed and modded and already have been by lots of talented creators (objects, clothes, UI, behaviors and code etc..).
How are worlds created that they are so inaccessible or they can't be cloned for example and reedited as new worlds?

Can you walk us through how worlds are designed/created and what tools the team uses? Asking from a game design perspective and out of curiosity as well. I would love to play around with the 3D assets and other components that would make up a world. And I would love for this to be answered for those very creative CC creators and other curious players who'd maybe want to tackle a project such as creating a custom world for the game.

Since this section of the forum was opened to give us a look into the design process, I hope worlds can be talked about more and we could get some useful information such as the info you've given us on object creation.

I know the majority will likely vote for laundry since that's how the pack was initially described to us, and despite that obvious initial bias, I hope some of you can look objectively at the other options. I wanted to play devil's advocate on "Food Preserves" as I think it would offer the most detailed gameplay out of the 4 options.

Nectar-Making

The only option in the entire gameplay pack with an already established multi-level skill in prior games is Nectar-Making. First introduced in the Sims 3 World Adventures, nectar making offered players a new way to flesh out their gameplay for "farming", "gardening", "travelling" or "foodie" Sims. Not only did it give gardening more depth as it let players grow more crops for use outside of just cooking or fertilizer, it added a lot more to players who decided to become nectar collectors, nectar snobs, nectar sellers, etc.

Imagine the possibilities of nectar making in the Sims 4 so far...

If you have Get to Work you can create a nectar store, which would create a really authentic level of gameplay for farmer sims. You could grow your own crops and have your Sims turn them into nectars which you could then sell at various levels depending on how they're aged.

If you have Get Together you could make a nectar club, or have your Sims form a club and go on a nectar-tasting tour in a vineyard. Or you could make a club with club rules based on tending the garden and making nectar which could essentially make a nectar farmers club!

If you have Dine Out you could have a multitude of homemade nectars on the menu for your fancier restaurants.

If you have City Living you can sell your nectar with the vendor's table.

If you have Outdoor Retreat you could make a Vineyard lot in Granite Falls and have your Sims take a nectar-tasting vacation, like you could in World Adventures

If you have Vampires, you could make nectar out of plasma fruit and make plasma nectars!

If you have Vintage Glamour Stuff, you could have your butlers serve you nectar or build a fancy wine cellar complete with globe bar and nectar racks.

Imagine using the Get to Work harvestables and making Alien Nectar! Or using a trashplant and making trash nectar. Or using a cowplant berry and having Cowplant nectar! There's so much depth in this option for "wacky" gameplay too!

Nectar Racks

Nectar Racks are a great build item which can really enhance a basement, a mansion, or a farm/vineyard lot. It adds a level of detail that we have not yet seen in the Sims 4 in terms of farming gameplay.

Canning & Preserving

Available in prior games through the Sims 3 store. This item again allows for lots of additional gameplay for gardener Sims and offers a great activity for elders especially! The idea of having a garden that your family grows crops in, and then gives them to grandma to make homemade jam adds a great level of family gameplay!

If you gave Get to Work you can sell your preserves which again adds a great level of detail to farming gameplay. I.e. you could create your own Farmers Market by selling jams/preserves along with fresh harvestables and your own homemade nectars! Or you could create a bakery that sells homemade preserves as well as baked goods!

If you have Get Together, you can have an elders only club where you have your elder Sims gather and make their own jams and preserves. Or you could make a farming club where Sims come together to tend garden and make preserves!

If you have Dine Out, you could make a restaurant that specializes in high tea featuring scones with jam, toast with jam along with other delicious treats

If you have Vampires you could preserve plasma fruit so that you always have a good supply ready for your thirsty vampires

If you have Parenthood you could encourage your Teens to build their gardening skill and then influence them to make jam, teaching them responsibility!

If you have Outdoor Retreat and Get to Work you could build a rustic cannery or general store where your Sims could visit and purchase fresh homemade harvestables and jams.

Superfood Harvestable Plant
Having a superfood plant would add a lot of gameplay for Sims who are health-conscious, foodies or hipsters. Sure it's fine to be a vegetarian Sim, but what if you could be a vegetarian who refuses to eat anything but food with Superfood added to it! There's a lot of gameplay hidden behind such an innocuous feature.

If you have Get to Work you could create a health food store where all you sell is superfood harvestables and meals with superfood added to them

If you have Outdoor Retreat you could have a Sim who practices Herbalism but also is a health nut and grows superfood as well.

If you have Get Together/Fitness Stuff, you could have a club where your Sims workout and hangout on a lot where they eat superfood, or drink superfood nectar/smoothies/juices.

TL;DR I know that it's easy to brush off the other features in favour of laundry, but I think we'd be better off saving Laundry for an EP/GP that can have it as one of its minor features, but having an SP focused entirely on eco-friendly gameplay it makes sense to include gameplay features with this much gameplay!
