Accessibility Issues for Disabled Players Since Jan 31 Update

Update:

I've change the title of the thread as it was created before I realised how much players with disabilities had been impacted by the update and I wanted to make sure it was highlighted as it's really important and shouldn't be ignored. Updates shouldn't make the game less accessible for players.

For those of you who are unaware, some players with disabilities or conditions that cause issues in their hands and wrists etc. (such as arthritis) are finding the new console controls really difficult and at times painful to use. Having to hold down different buttons to manually scroll or search through swatches is really difficult.

Many players have been unable to play at all for the past months as they cannot physically use the controllers.

Using a mouse and keyboard is not feasible for everyone and those who have chosen to play on a console should not be forced to play with a keyboard and mouse.

It's been marked as solved on Answers HQ but the thread is still growing so if you'd like more information or to share your own feedback (that EA have promised they are reviewing), please check it out.

Console lag spikes

These console lag spikes are getting ridiculous now, I play on a series x so I dont understand why the game lags and stutters like this. I'm not even saying this to be dramatic, it's making the game unplayable!! The lag spikes are getting worse and worse, you used to be able to do things like being up the options menu to get the lag to go away but even that doesn't work anymore. It's so bad. Is this being fixed any time soon? I don't understand why this game isn't optimised for next gen consoles. If they are going to keep adding packs to console then they need to do something about this lag.

What Currently annoys, or irks you during your playing of The Sims 4 but isn't quite a bug?

Hi, I I just started playing Sims 4 about 3 months ago and play it almost every day, I have about 40 percent of the expansions/packs and am for the most part enjoying the game. But heres a list of things that Irk me and could be improved in the game.
-Giving your sims commands in a particular order for a reason and the game remixing that order (based on what algorithm I have no idea).
-Chickens live extremely short lives, you can't build your relationship bar up with them and you have to name new ones so often (and before you suggest turn animal ageing off, I already know about it and don't want too).
-The household inventory not having a delete/sell all stack option
-the long loading screens despite not being a graphically complex game and occurring every time you make a move to a new location basically.
-Right now, I'm having an issue with hamster/rodents, when I hover over there encloser it always says their hunger level is fine, I never have to feed them, they are never hungry, the option to fill bowl is greyed out and can't be selected despite looking in the enclosure and seeing that it is empty. This ruins having the pets completely for me so I don't bother anymore
-Running a vet clinic is not fun, and the vets you hire barely ever do the job correctly they just stand about doing nothing half the day, even if trained well.
-The Butler is almost useless, not bugged but almost useless and they walk around all the time never sleeping and look tired.
-My cat ran away recently and came back very dirty, he has yet to clean himself and there is no option to bath/clean him/her. This actually dont really bother me yet, but if it continues it will.
-Working a regular job nets you about 2000 dollars a day if your moderately up the ladder. Well having a good garden nets, you 50,000 every day or two. and there's nothing to spend money on once you have the big house, the fancy pictures and furniture.
-sims walk halfway across the house to use a sink after using the toilet.

What gameplay issues do you find, lacking or annoying or falling short in some way... (we all know about the insulting, and it has been spoken about by the developers so no need to bring that one up really).

Skin Tone RGB Numbers?

Before the game brought in sliders for the different skin tones, you just had to select what was there and I was wondering, is there a way to determine the RGB code for the colours?

For example, at the bottom of the selection, you had from the left side:

- Green
- Red
- Silver
- Off white

What would be the RGB number for the silver skin tone? I'm trying to create a character in the new "Saints Row" game with that exact colour but not sure what RGB it is.

Has Anyone Else Getting a glitchy Evergreen harbour?

After some recent discussion I am curious to know if there are any Devs on The Sims 4 Dev Team that exclusively play on the console? By which I mean do not touch the PC version of the game at all (and also play using a controller rather than mouse/keyboard).

As there are many of us that have never played the PC version and have only ever played on console with a controller it would be interesting to know how many Devs can share our experience and advocate for us when it comes to updates and improvements for the console.

*This isn't a "console vs PC" debate, I know many people assume PC is superior and I know many console users feel we need mods, please start another thread if you wish to discuss these things because they are worth talking about, just not here.

So as a simmer that has collected every piece of the sims 4 Content there is and planned to collect all the new content, i will definitely not get all the content available for the sims 4 if this is going to be a thing , spending possibly over a thousand pound on this game already , EA is now trying to get console simmers to pay a subscription for certain content,

EA this game already has expansions, game packs, stuff packs and kits to make money off this game, why ?

Edit: if people comment on this thread and you are as annoyed as me, please be respectful to EA employees, I think personally they probably know this is ridiculous 🤣 and beyond there control

About bundles sales

Hi y'all,

So, I want to talk about bundles... sales.

For those who don't know, The Sims 4 bundles on both consoles are already packed so you can't create your own with packs of your choice. I really like Maxis bundles, they make sense gameplay wise and are a good value. But since the base game went free-to-play and newer bundles were added I noticed bundles sales go from 50% to 20% off, which is a bummer.

Look, I'm not saying newer bundles should be 50% off, but at least the old ones, with packs from 3~5 years ago, could keep the old discount, couldn't? I mean, there's still new releases, we now got kits which doesn't go on sale and that's fine for me because they are very side content, and new bundles will be available...

Specifically I'm calling this out because I used to play TS4 on my potato PC until I bought my Xbox and started buying the packs (some again) on the Xbox Live. It would really help, not only me, but a lot of new players from this f2p wave, to start build up our collections with the older content. I also think imho that the first packs are more core systems (thinking of Get Together clubs or Get Famous reputation) and people would maybe prefer grab those first than more recent or experimental packs.

That's it, I guess. Some thoughts?

YouMakeTheSims tag is very popular on social media and promoted by TS official account. Due to that I decided to cteate this topic because in my opinion console players are omitted in the community, Simgurus and Sims Media. I want to put this thread in this section because a lot of people skip console subforum and I want to invite everyone to the discussion.

On the beginning I want to say that I see a lot of comments that The Sims on PC is better than console version and due to that people ignore our point of view for a lot of things. For example for the anniversary gift we received some CC content and a lot of people was disappointed because they have that items directly from CC packs. I totally don't understand why a huge amount of community ignore that some people can't or don't want to download CC.

Also a lot of people think that TS4 on consoles has long loading screens and consoles can't handle this game and due to that we don't have a better content (also for PC) because of consoles limitation. I can agree that TS4 has bad optimalisation on consloes, but from the end of previous year we have much more better next gen consoles wchih are more and more popular. I play on PS5 and I can guarantee that TS4 on this console is much more better and faster than on popular laptops or PCs. Whats more, I need to say that EA should do PS5 update for TS4 because sometimes loading screens are faster than loading bars for example. But still I feel that community think that TS4 is lacking because of us.

As I said on the beginning I feel that we are totally omitted. I see no representation of console players in game changers community. No one of simgurus or sim media show console players creations. Whats more I feel that the content with mods and CC is being more promoted than we are. I see no console gameplay or any information abaut the consoles on official streams etc. For example I want to know if we ever get any update or implementation of CC or something.

I want to feel that we are a part of the community and our voice matters. I don't want to live in quiet limbo where everyone ignore us and where only some of console players sometimes try to highlight what we need or want on our consoles. I want to feel that PC players don't blame us of TS4 weaknesses also.

Earring Bug with Club Outfits

I'm starting a new thread because all the others are old and failed to answer my question.

So, when designing Club Outfits, a Mannequin appears in CAS. Now, CAS for Mannequins does not have earring accessories as an option to choose from. Regardless of whether or not Mannequins have ears, it DOES NOT stop RANDOM earrings and other piercings from being generated with ANY outfit created on a Mannequin and the player has NO control over this. Because I play on the console, I can not use mods to fix this.

I need help because trying to remove the bad outfit prevents me from creating ANY new ones. I'd like to be able to use the club outfits, but I hate the piercings when I have no control over which one, and if I even want them included. The other key detail is that the piercings seem to only appear in the swimwear and hot weather outfit categories. I've gone to great lengths to try and reset this, and I even recreated the club with no luck. I play with merfolk, so the swimwear category is the most used outfit category. Hot weather outfits are also frequently used in Sulani.

For now, the club outfits are unusable while I can't remove those darn earrings the game generates. It's like the eyeball ring all over again.

Hello, I'm noticing more and more how dead the console section is in this site compared to the PC section. Oh well no big deal many things you talk about are not console specific anyway. But to the question. I've learned just a tad very little bit about custom content on sims 4. Like hair and clothes made by content creators. I could be totally wrong; I glanced something on the web the other day. Is there a way to gain access to Custom made clothing and hair or other things on console? I know about houses, rooms and sims, but not like clothes or hair styles?

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

The new poses we got for the camera awhile ago, I've never been able to center them. Are you able to center the new pose like the old ones when using the camera?

The old poses work like before it's just the new poses(the cheek kiss, the funny jaw pose...) for me that refused to be centered. Half of one sims face always gets cropped out.

Weeds are stuck on my plants. Any solutions?

Hi everyone,

A while ago, weeds started to grow on 3 of my Bonsai bushes. My Sim and Patchy where not capable to remove the weeds. So, in the end these bushes died, as I wasn't sure about what to do.

Now, about 1 week ago, suddenly the weeds got stuck on 1 money tree, 1 bananatree and a sage bush. And I quite care about these plants, so I really don't want them to die. Patchy attempts to remove the weeds every day multiple times, but it doesn't seem to work.

I noticed that the weeds disappear when I relocate the plants in build/buy Mode, but after a few seconds the weeds reappear. In between I saved and quit the game completely but that didn't seem to help. Strangly, I have seen some other weeds growing in this period of time on other plants that could be removed. That includes a money tree and a growfruit tree.

Did anyone encounter this problem, and how did they solve this, besides selling the plants and regrow them from scratch?

Other helpfull details on my game situation:

Platform: PS4
Expansions: Seasons, Eco Lifestyle, Cottage Living, Outdoor Living, Laundry Day, Nifty Knitting, Desert Deluxe
Latest patch: I am not sure where I can find this on PS4

Xbox one Console Maintenance...proper and complete way to power cycle, clear cache and some tips!!

I have researched on my own as well as spoken with Xbox staff about optimizing console performance and they lead me through some steps. You may have heard of clearing your cache and power cycling your console. Well, I know the most correct way to do these things. This is all you need to do to power cycle and clear cache at the same time. Clearing cache removes temporary files from the Xbox, sometimes this information fills up and slows down your console. It does not delete any saved game files or profiles. A power cycle will restart software within Xbox clearing out corrupted data, I can't explain it that well. Both are safe to do, will help your console and improve performance, and you will lose no important data. These thing's may solve issues about your Console, such as lag, freezing and certain bugs/glitches.
1. While Xbox is on, hold power button until the console turns off. Then wait one minute
2. Unplug the power cable from the Xbox, unplug the HDMI cable and the Ethernet cable.
3. Press and hold power button on Xbox for a few seconds then release it, repeat this step 3 or 4 times.
4. After about a minute plug back in all the things you unplugged.
5. Wait about 1 more minute after plugging everything in and power back on your console. Now you have power cycled and cleared Cache.

Another thing you should do from time to time is go to settings and look around till you find the blu ray area, click on that and find the clear persistent data, click on it and clear data, do this 2 times at least. I'm not 100 % sure what this does but it has more to do than just with blu ray disks, it has to do with the Xbox in general but in what way I'm not sure.

Any Ideas or Tips for speeding up long load time in sims 4?

One of the worst things about playing sims 4 is the long waits while loading. I've did a bit of research on how to speed up loading times on xbox one and sims 4, as well as asking what causes it to get slower in the first place. Does anyone have any ideas on how to speed up the load times?? I understand a bit about clearing Cache, and also the power cycle. And then there's the reinstall your game and delete all saves start fresh. Can anyone offer any insight into why the game load times get longer and what can be done about it?? I have read that lots of things in your house, like decorations for example as well as having your inventories loaded with stuff makes the load times longer but im not sure about much else.

Sims 4 Xbox crashing constantly

So, my game was filled with many small bugs and some medium bugs. Some common and some I've never heard of before. Then my game started crashing almost every time I traveled and also the load times grew longer and longer, even without new updates or new expansions. So, a Reinstall became ever more tempting to me. Well after asking questions here, as well as doing a little research elsewhere, I finally decided to uninstall sims 4 and all my content and then reinstall it all. I also deleted all saves related to the game including both local and, in the cloud, and lastly, I did a power cycle.
Here's the results of my experiment, mind you I did not expect a big change as some for warned me about, also I felt as though just a small improvement in the game would be worth it. Well to make things simple and short I will list the things that I noticed after 2 days of moderate play of the sims 4 on Xbox one. The bigger ones I'll try to list first.
-Load times where significantly improved, all load times not just the first couple
-My household inventory was finally free of tons of seeds and other items, in fact it contained nothing
-Sims seem quicker to do commands, cooking is faster, as is eating.
-for the first time in a long time when I went to bed, the time actually went to full speed
-overall, the gameplay is smoother, framerate has less moments where it jitters, although once I experienced some framerate jitters at a nightclub with quite a few sims on screen at once
-there is still lag when going into build mode however pausing the game fixes it
-there are lots of new sims I've never seen before and they all look pretty good for the most part, no more crappy sims and npcs, on the somewhat downside, when I go to a bar or cafe and try to order food or a drink, there are so many sims gathering around its almost silly, in my old save when I traveled to a place almost no one was there, now it's packed full of people. Not sure if that's good or bad.
-it might just be me but I'm about 70 percent sure that there are never before seen clothing items available
-when you go to change outfit, it doesn't take nearly as long to see your available outfits, same on the manage world screen when you hover over a house to see who all lives there.
Final words: I haven't got to test everything such as pets or living in a big lot and the insulting is still there although I did not expect that to change. I would say I like the fresh start as well, my worlds are free from all the gallery items I downloaded, which in part they were made using cheats and thus were bugged. I learned quite a bit my first playthrough and will apply much of that this time around. I am much more satisfied with the experience; the reduced load times really help. And starting fresh and new is nice. I'm glad I did what I did, and only time will tell if the same bugs slowly creep back into my game. If you're on the fence about reinstalling your sims 4 stuff, maybe this will offer some insight. Just because I saw these changes doesn't mean you will. But I would say that if you are having a lot of crashing and long load times then consider doing what I did. And I would also check with Microsoft store support over the phone and ensure that you can log in and out of your profile or you may not be able to redownload your purchased content. good day/night

How do you make your game more fun/engaging?

What play style, storylines, and anything else you think makes your game more engaging do you do? Looking for some ideas, fell into making new saves and playing for only thirty minutes.

Some ideas from my gameplay;
My sims are divided into generations, determined by when they go to/are university age (the day they age to young adult), I like my sims to stay dating and friends with close or the same generation, and teens nearing adulthood get a new wardrobe. I do set likes and dislikes, the first color to be set is their "favorite color" (the one they age into a child in). The second I spin a wheel for, and is the hair color they like most in other sims. I also spin a wheel for dating preference, which I track on a notepad. My sims have two likes set for hobbies, one is normally trait/aspiration based, while the other spins a wheel and is for their fun. I do follow aspirations, but not always completing them, I use them as a guideline for what a sim wants in life, like a writer will be more into books and literature. I let my sims care for their basic needs and mainly only make them interact manually for hobbies, skills, aspirations, or taking a new step in a relationship. For relationships I actually like the whims, there are some good ones I pin. Edit; mention for PleasantSims, who gave me most of these ideas.

Sim keeps Catching her stove on fire (Xbox one)

Hello fellow simmers, currently I've been having troubles with my sim constantly catching her stove on fire constantly at level 10 cooking skill. there are no mods or cc since this is console, her traits are Geek, socially awkward and Foodie. I've tried shutting down my xbox all the way, replacing wood with tiles and making sure the stove doesn't have any rugs or tables near it. however, this JUST started happening and it was working with the wood just fine until last night. she as a good stove, not a cheap one and she is almost never tense when she goes to cook. she does have the health nut lifestyle BUT it also catches fire when making healthy food. (also, she doesn't have any lot traits that would cause this)

Did game bugs/crashes etc, make you eventually reinstall your game and content?

Hello, I'm having a variety of different issues with the Sims 4, and I've tried probably all troubleshooting option's except reinstalling my game and content. But I have second thoughts about doing it. Did you have issues with your game, and did you reinstall it and your content and it helped and or fixed some or most of the issues. I would appreciate as much feedback as possible to help me make a decision about going through with a reinstall. Thank you I'm on Xbox one.

Sorry for the long post, while playing The Sims 4 a number of issues/bugs are occurring and many of them are not listed as a current know bug, some are. Based on some events that's occurred I'm thinking there's something wrong with the lot/house. I know that if certain things are placed wrongly or using the move objects cheat this can-do things like block pathing or block the ability to use certain object, expresso machine for example. Well really quickly I'm going to list some things that are happening or have happened then I'm going to ask a question quickly.
-My son sim disappears out of his bed during the middle of the night and appears outside the front gate, then stands there forever until given a new command
-hamsters/rodents never need food, never have their enclosure say their hunger level is starving, etc. and you look at the bowl and its empty
-One time my greenhouse which was on the roof of the house well on the third floor, which is mostly roofing. I was blocked from being able to sell any garden plants or harvest them, I removed the greenhouse from the roof and moved it onto the ground and the problem was fixed.
-recently something in my kitchen is blocking the pathing of sims, they wave their hands in the air, make a noise and a symbol appears above their head that pretty obviously says to me that they can't complete given command because they can't get to it.
-my cat never scratches furniture, and very rarely uses any toys, his icon turns red, and I ask what's wrong and I am informed that he is hungry and needs food, well I look at the food bowl and its full, the cat will not eat on his own.
-there are more things going on but I'm not going to list them all
Ok, so I'm thinking that there is a major flaw on the third floor and that it should be like deleted and rebuilt completely same thing with much of my house. Like perhaps the graphic chosen as the floor detail is causing everything that touches it to malfunction, something like that, my green house is sunk into the ground a bit and I tried the flatten entire lot option in build mode and it flattened everything but that area. Do you think this could be the case, and is there a way to reset my house without having to rebuild everything I added such as extra rooms, furnishings, clutter, etc. Or is there some other option that could do something similar.?

I'm going to check the troubleshooting area as well as do a web search on this subject and see what comes up, but I would like you Guys's opinions as well, perhaps you're facing some of the same issues.

Bugs and flaws in game mechanics are ruining my sims experiance what about you?

I've been having more and more things occur in my gaming experience in The Sims 4 that are ruining the fun, or the gameplay. Let me just mention some of the things that are going on that annoy me or let me down about the game. Some things you guys are well aware of, some maybe not so much.
-My wife sim keeps getting this upset emotion animation and slamming her fist up and down as if something is very wrong with her emotionally, but I have no idea what it could be. I don't want this to happen, maybe it's the current relationship status between my husband-and-wife sim, which is pretty bad, I've been working on improving it but with that insult bug, it is a chore in a half.
-Something that just occurred recently, I went to care for my cow who needed it fairly badly, I have a lot of pets and gardening to do so it's not easy to manage the family and those things. But her hunger status was starving, I tried to give her a treat to start off with and my sim would make this sound and wave her hands in the air like I can't perform that action, but the game doesn't tell you what is stopping the action from occurring. I check the feed amount in the cow's hut, and it says its completely full. I was not happy with these things.
- I go in the house my cat is on the counter. I click on it to see if I can lecture it to not get on counters, and one in a hundred its actually there, but after doing it, the cat remained on the counter, I then selected the scold action. It all seems to have no effect, my cat has the clever trait and should learn things faster, it's not learning at all.
- when I give my sims a series of commands, the game re arranges some of them in the que, well I picked them in an order for a reason, and that ruins the flow.
- I can't even have a pet hamster/rodent because the hunger is broken, it never gets hungry and never offers me the option to feed it, yet the bowl is empty if you zoom in on it. I just deleted all the enclosures and stopped having them.
- I just bought the clutter kit, and it's pretty mediocre to say the best. Some of the items are descent. Not worth 5 dollars. little things like that should be added to the game for free every now and then, which to be fair they do add stuff for free from time to time.
- Ultimately the more I play the game, and the more expansions and packs I buy, the more messed up the game gets. If these things keep occurring which they probably will, I may get tired of playing, and I just started playing a couple months ago. The developers need to really work hard at improving multiple aspects of the game at once, not just fixing the insult issue. Rant over.

Want a custom gamer pic/any pic to be you profile pic on Xbox, heres how, updated for November 2022

This looks like a lot of stuff and that may turn you away from trying but I promise its actually quite easy........Why I made this post: There used to be many options on ways to get a personal or web image as your gamer pic, well Xbox changed it, now it's much harder, I had to research till I finally found a way that works, and this right here got me a custom profile pic.
You can do this all from your Xbox console!
First step: download for free File Downloader on xbox.
Second step: Go to Microsoft edge on your Xbox and go to i.imgur.com actually you can use images from google searches or Bing but i.imgur.com was suggested.
Third step: once at the site search for images, use tags if you want and when you find an image you like (you may click on it to bring it up bigger if you want) press the start button on your controller (the three lines) on the image that interest you, a pop-up box will appear pick open image in new tab. click on the new tab and write down the exact link to the picture/image. (Important: The image needs to be big and about 1080 by 1080 in size, even when I did this it did not always work though)
Forth Step: once you have written down the link(you can't copy and paste the link, this I'm told does not work) go to your apps and enter into File downloader, once there click on the 3 lines at the top left and near the top is the option to download from URL, select from URL this will take you to a new page, this is easy..type into the box titled Source URL: the link to the picture, next look at the spot underneath that says destination path and name, under that should be Media Library, click it, next click pictures after you done this ?you will see that in the box for destination path and name it should read Media Library\Pictures click in the box and type to begin with \ then you can enter whatever you want to title the picture for example mine might be ToolArt1 then type .png or .jpg it depends on if it's a jpeg file or a Png file, actually it may not matter at all this is an example of what the destination path and name should read exactly like this except for the ToolArt1.jpg that part is up to you. Media Library\Pictures\ToolArt1.jpg ok once you have done these steps click on the start box near the bottom of the page it should begin downloading, this shouldn't take long.
fifth step: open the guide go to profile section click on my profile then customize profile then change gamer pic at the top right should be the option to upload a custom image(you must be at least 18 years old to have this option I believe), click on upload a custom image now on the next screen you should be able to choose between a little icon that is like a clock or one that looks like a Xbox one console, pic the one that looks like a Xbox console, it's the bottom one. next click pictures now select the picture from the options you have. It should begin downloading, the new gamer pic will not take effect immediately Xbox staff must view the image and approve it.... this usually only take an hour or so..but it may take longer.
Important: make sure the image is large enough file space, like 821KB or more, many of mine could not work because they were too small. 1080 by 1080 at least
Also Important: I would get the URL of several photos you like at one time and put each one individually into the file downloader befor you go to customize profile.... because the picture is often said to be too small to work, etc. So, if you have several saved then from the Xbox profile change screen you can quickly select and try several back-to-back instead of having to go back and forth to Microsoft edge, and search all over again, ok that's all if you have any problems or questions feel free to ask, I'm no expert but I will try to help.
