Doesn't It Figure?

My Founder is 104 days old, he has two days before he goes back to work. His wife, having received a promotion, also has two days before she goes to work. There is very little in their banking account, if you choose to call it that, bills just arrived giving them two days to pay, or else. And there's probably not enough harvest-ables around to make up the difference! Face/palm. It figures, doesn't it?

I had one from Evermore Falls where I'd increased the trait slots in Retuner and never checked that add missing traits in story progression>general options>sim options>trait and lifetime wish options was set to false instead of true and that glitched up the legacy so bad it almost ruined it.I always check that add missing traits to make sure it's set to false before increasing the trait slot cap in Retuner.

:open_mouth: I totally scuddled my first Legacy go-around with Erik, which is why I'm calling this a Reboot. I know the rules state we're to take the good with the bad, but I totally misinterpreted the succession rules and missed the caveat that if none of the children fit the criteria, you may then select your own heir. By the time I read that again, I had already moved my only possible heir out of the household. And then, when I couldn't find his mother Sim to recreate part of the family so I could 'carry on', I deleted that game save. I'm a dunce, sometimes. I act before I engage my brain. Oh, well. I'm so glad you got things straightened out and saved your Legacy. :)

Years ago, well before even the first Sims 3 game was announced, I had a legacy family on the Sims 2 (that's kind of a given thing as you can't do that with the original Sims.) Started off with a single man, I can't remember what neighbourhood it was, but he met a townie sim, they had great compatibility and so they got married quickly. Soon enough, although they lived in a trailer home essentially, they did well in their careers and had a little girl. So far so good.
At least until the game decided, "You know what? It's time to make this save impossible to play!"
One day, the girl came home from school and at the same time, so did her dad, who through a chance card caught a cold. Oh, well have him miss a day of work stay in bed and rest up, he'll be fine. Right? WRONG! VERY wrong! He would not stay in bed no matter how many times I told him to. I had him nap several times, daydream, sleep. Each time he'd cancel it after a few minutes to stand up and cough for 3 minutes! During all this his wife had come home with a promotion. Because I couldn't afford an extension to squeeze in another bed I had her sleep on the couch to stop the cold spreading. What a great idea! Shame that he decided to walk into the room, sit next to her as she watched tv and *BOOM* SHE now has the cold too. I thought I could handle it. Maybe she can avoid work, call in sick and be okay.
The next few days were terrible. Both parent's work were warning them saying they would lose their job if they didn't come into work despite having a cold, which in the husbands case had developed into the flu! (Remember that lovely addition to the game where a simple cold could turn into the flu if they didn't rest long enough?) He was still refusing to rest properly, and so I decided to allow the wife to go to work to at least have them keep one job. She eventually shook it off but his illness stayed.
Then one day he friggin' died on me! Jumped out of bed, the grim reaper popped up and he died! While she was at work! And the kid had accidentaly skipped school because I was so busy juggling his illness, the wife getting ready for work and the kid was having a tantrum. So, because of this the social services message popped up that the kid was in danger of being taken away. I was counting down the hours until her mum came back, and just as she was a minute away from arriving to a dead husband and a mourning kid....
"Hi! I'm here to take your kid because you are an unfit parent!"

I quit the game, deleted the save and until recently, didn't play the game again. I'm so, so, SO glad that kids can be left alone without the social services snatching them.

On the bright side, you don't really need power for a few days, right? There's always salad, and you still get to keep the shower and toilet a little longer while you scrounge up bill money, right? It can still be salvaged! Don't give up hope!

I used to send a sick Sim to take a bubble bath to have them 'rest'. But, I feel your pain. My first Legacy Challenge in Sims3 took place during the horrible sit-on-the-floor to teach the toddler to talk glitch. Mom went off to work, because somebody had to. Dad was stuck on the floor. Nothing I did would change that. Mom came home from work tried to feed the toddler, (I had thought that might work). Nope. She was able to feed the infant brother, not the toddler. But it wasn't enough. She kept going to work, so at least they had some money. The Dad got really smelly from lack of bathing and the toddler was in constant distress. Talk about a nightmare. The Social Worker came by and suddenly, she had no trouble taking toddler from the floor. What the heck? Mom had tried that and failed. (Sometimes, I think the game is rigged, j/k.) Anyway, I was truly beside myself with what to do. I knew there was no way the parents could get their children back and I was devastated. I came to the Sims3 forum and pleaded my case. Wisely, the overall suggestion was for me to just play it through. In the long run, that was the best choice. The couple went on to have twin sons and a few more, giving them five children on the second go-around. All boys. The only daughter was gone. One day the oldest boy brought home a friend from school. You'll never guess who it was. Okay, you're right, it was their long-lost first son! That made for an interesting plot twist, as I had the parents sit all of their children down and tell them of their older siblings and how this friend was their brother. I also spent time searching the town for Hailey. Never did find her, though.

Thank you for sharing your story. :)

UPDATE: I sent my Sim to harvest around his home. He made lots of Simoleons, happily. In fact, he got within just a couple of hundred from the amount required. So, I made sure his needs were fairly high and sent him to the park. My initial idea was to have him play his guitar and sing, for some tips. He's now at level 10 in guitar, so it should reap a nice amount. However, I sent him to the part in Oasis Springs. He found a few havestables, which I quickly cashed in. And between that and the plumbing parts and the few repeated MySims and crystals he had, they made enough to pay the bills. Yay! Not only that, but once he finished mentoring his teen daughter on the guitar, he achieved his aspiration. This gave him a passle of reward points. So, since I'm not ready to say goodbye to Erik, I had him use half of his points to get the Youth Potion. I don't normally use these in a Challenge, but this time, I double-checked the rules. Then I had him consume the potion. He's still 104, but seemingly doing far better. Not so many aches and pains! We'll see how long he lasts. Only one of his sons is a teen, currently. The other still a child.

Haha, that is harsh! But part of the fun of a legacy challenge, I suppose! Starting out in a tiny box with everything in one room. The cheapest of everything as it continuously breaks and gets dirty because you can't afford anything else, lol. Oh man. But then you see what it becomes!! After a couple generations of not buying much of anything, and then getting to add on sooo many cool additions definitely makes it all worth it. :)

This time I had Erik purchase a tent, a fire ring and a tree-stump for a seat. Part of the fun of this Challenge, too, is really having my Sims live within their means. It's hard, too, because we have to play on Normal lifespan, which is too short to do much of anything! But, I think I'll give him a restart (non-Legacy), but have him struggle to build his house while trying to make a career in music.
