As many as they want. TS5 likely only just started production. Everyone that's anxious for it almost seems like they want it to be a rushed job, like TS4 was.

Past sims games started development soon after the last one was released. No reason to suspect it’s any different this time around. If they go by their own pattern from the last three games (2, 3 & 4 - though 4 changed from its original design so felt rushed), they will have been working on it for several years.

Actually there was a leak from an EA employee that they never started working on TS5 this time around.

This was posted in early 2018. From job listings we know they likely started working on TS5 in late 2018 so the game is only in development for one year.

Which is why we have at least 3 more years of Sims 4. Obviously SimGuruGrant was moved to lead Sims 5 which is kind of scary seeing as he hates family gameplay and packs like Parenthood which did very well were a fight with him to get made clearly he has no desire to make the game enjoyable for family game players.
Sims 4 went from "You Rule" to "One of the stories we want you to tell"

    That didn't happen this time.

I can’t see them doing more then 2 or 3 more packs discontent is growing in the ranks people like RoM but also a lot of people (me included) are saying that the recent packs are lacking somthing island Paradise and get famous should/could have been GP’s seeing what they added the las EP I will possibly bye will be University I feel that the dev team are getting fatigued with the game it has run it’s production life cycle and now like all things it’s time for it to die to make way for The Sims 5

Well that sucks. I hadn't heard this. This franchise is clearly dying. 😔

One thing I'm not really clear on is how the game would handle another 10+ game packs if it does go for another 3 years. On one hand people dump gigabytes of custom CC into their game so we know it can handle the content - however packs add new features and special effects which unlike CC can require more computer horsepower to run.

On the other hand The Sims 4 compartmentalizes everything with load screens, so this might not be an issue.

I honesty have no idea since I don't keep up with what developers say lol

I just kinda wish that the sims 4 packs would add more depth to the game rather than width, if that makes any sense. Like, once you play with a pack, then you've played it and you're just waiting for the next one to come out. There's not a whole lot of re-playability in my opinion. Hopefully the sims 5 will be better, whenever that comes out.

I think with TS4 it's less of an issue of the game itself and the machines it runs on being able to handle the amount of content (as not all of it is active at the same time) and more how the packs affect each other. It can very well handle another 10+ packs but there might be code that causes issues - something in one pack that conflicts with another.

As you said, some people have massive amounts of CC and mods and the game runs fine, performance-wise. It's just already a maze of making it work together in all possible combinations of packs that people have. (which I'm guessing is why Duke mentioned in an interview that his tech directors freak out when he tells them how much more he wants to add to the game)

i think my question is this. Why a Sims 5 when they couldn't get 3 or 4 right? Do you really want the same regurgitated content that does not work or crashes your computer? I sure don't. How about they finally listen and give us what we pay for first and then maybe in ten years think about updating.

It's hard to say cause I can't really think what else needs adding to the game besides university. I'm sure they have of plenty ideas for new packs though. Personally I wish they would take a break from releasing new packs and fix all the bugs in the game before adding new ones. I absolutely love the game but it's almost becoming unbearable to play. It's just so buggy ever since Island Living released and it feels like they aren't fixing anything. If it wasn't for the amazing modders fixing bugs the game would actually be unplayable.

I can think of loads they'd add haha. Some I'm not interested in but I think they'll do anyway

    Generations
    Farming
    Amusement park
    Olympics
    Skiing
Several more occult (werewolves, faeries etc etc)
Stuff packs like wedding stuff, teen stuff, several decades stuff like 20s stuff etc, tech pack, outdoor toy pack etc
    World adventures
    Hotels
    Time travel pack

I hope they don't decide to do all of that, because this game is already mega buggy. Imagine with all of that.

I think mega buggy is a bit extreme.
Dine Out is completely broken, but the Sims 4 bugs are just annoyances that need to be fixed. They aren’t game breaking bugs.

With the fact there are 30 packs for Sims 4, and most of the common bugs are cosmetic or annoying, but don’t make the game unplayable, there is definitely heaps they could add to the game.

The issue is not with the fact the game can’t handle it, it’s the fact these bugs just haven’t been fixed. And they need to be.

But it’s not like Sims 3, where the game engine couldn’t physically handle all the content. Playing just the base game of The Sims 3 runs like a dream, and for each pack you enable it just gets slower and slower.

4 runs just as fast with the base game, as it does with all DLC. They just need to address bugs more often and faster.

The fact the October patch didn’t fix anything from Realm of Magic is a JOKE.

I hope there is a Sims 5, I would hate to see the franchise die. No matter how well a game is made, it will eventually show its age, and TS4 wasn't that wonderfully made to begin with. It needs so much more depth and gameplay and I truly hope we get that in the coming years, both as DLC and updates and developments to the base game. I feel it has already become stale, that's why people get new packs and immediately are looking for the next new one, the pretty looks bely the lack of substance.

So for TS5 I hope for time taken to make a truly well thought out game with lots of features at its core and gameplay for all ages, that can be further developed as the game grows.

The Sims 2 also crashes and corrupts easily.

The Sims franchise, apart from the Sims 1, crashes and has bugs a lot more than most other games and that’s just the nature of The Sims games.

Even the Sims 2 base game which is arguably the most extensive Sims experience for value for money, was criticised at launch for the huge amount of bugs.

I think if you expect a Sims game that is almost bug free and never crashes, you might be waiting a while. It’s just the nature of a game that has hundreds of variables.

Well I think that 2-3, we already heard on a "university" leaks, so I guess that's gonna happen, and after this one, i think maybe one more and then they will start with ST5 teasers / official leaks , TS4 is like 5 years old , and sorry but i think that TS3 was way better, they need to bring TS5 good just like TS3 was..but updated to this day's graphics

SimGuruDuke at EA Play this Summer said 3 or more years of content for TS4.

I wouldn't mind this if they hand't already started to over recycle things with recent packs...... and if they put on some extra work/people to fix this 🐸🐸🐸🐸 buggy 🐸🐸🐸🐸 game.

It is a shame that they are yet to recycle features that players actually want such as cars, an Open World and a CAW tool :(

Sims 4 feels fairly complete to me now. I am looking forward to several more years and more packs but it's at a place where I don't need them, even playing vanilla, so I can happily wait for sales.

I can't imagine starting over again both with content And my save files when I already have a game that I can enjoy now. Seems like a waste of money to me... But if sims 5 were to blow me away with something like gradual aging and fantastic family play and still have sims 4 art style, I could be perhaps be persuaded.

Yeah with this engine what you got to remember is that Sims 4 was maid at a time of grate upheaved at EA everything was to be online then a suddenly that policy was dropped and Maxis had to turn the Sims4 back in to a single player game ( witch is what we got in the end ) so with that going on they did a good job.

Well, I would like to see farming, a romance and wedding pack, some more vacations real baby patch, cars, several stuff packs...another children’s pack, a teenage pack and an elder pack, a baby pack ( after they fix them), a casino pack, not to mention some small animals like lizards, birds, Snakes, tarantula’s etc. and more active jobs. I’d say the earliest the Sims 5 would be here is the end of 2021. They said 2020 would be the busiest year so I think it will be somewhat over 7 packs

2020 will be busier than this year? I feel like they’ve dropped quite a lot this year tbf, especially if university is coming

I'm the opposite. It doesn't feel complete to me. We're still missing a lot of content and were missing family and romance gameplay. With the latter sims still cant slowdance, there is no attraction system and weddings need a major upgrade.

Also there still isnt a lot to do. Themeparks would fix this and then there is the missing objects and features.

    Missing
    Cars
    Pool slides
    Pool bars
    Picnic baskets
    Seesaws
    Bicycles
    Photobooths
    Working cinemas
    Hotels
    Body Piercings
    Body hair
    Boy/girlfriend relationships in cas
Wedding veils and so much more

    Sims 1 had 7 Expansions
    Sims 2 had 8 Expansions
    Sims 3 had 11 Expansions

I think Sims 4 will have around 12 / 13 Expansions because we know EA like to spread several purchases.
However, since we now have Expansion, Game and Stuff packs; It could mean less actual expansions?

But didn’t the Sims 4 just rebranded? It would be a bit odd to me if there was only one year left. I guess we’re on halftime or something.
