Yup, I would say it's accumulated dust. I had that problem in a Cape Cod-style house I built that has a third level with empty dormer rooms. I had to put a ladder, doors, and the robot vacuum up there (one in each dormer) and have a sim vacuum there from time to time anyway in order to avoid endless dormer/rooftop fires I was plagued with for a while till I figured out what it was.

Oh, my. Thanks for the heads-up. I've got two empty second floors flanking my house! I'll make myself a note to put the robot vacuum up in each side of the house. Ooh, I could likely place some in the basement, or would they jump the coping and slide into the pool?
Basement pools are a necessity in a small lot. I once built a house on a very small lot. It had many bedrooms and bathrooms, a full underground science layer, a underground pool, underground gym and underground garden. It also had like 3 floors above ground. Basically, I think there were three below ground and three above ground floors.

If you want to check it out, it's called Vertical Living (I think) and is in my gallery.
I don't know the answer to your question, but.....a basement pool? I never thought of that, good idea!
The idea struck me when the Little Campers pack was first introduced. I realized there wouldn't be enough yard leftover for the 'tent'. Sadly, now that four of the six kids are old enough to use it, I only barely had them in it when Erik and Kayleigh went off to the Starlight Accolades. I put a child's Don't Wake the Llama table inside for them to play. I just didn't expect fires in the basement. At least we can call the fire department. I even unlocked the security gate, but they remained outside. Never once did they check out the basement. I just got a popup telling me the fire was out and for my Sims to try to be more careful. But, at least it went out.

Another cure for this specifically in faux rooms is when you build the room is to click inside until you get the remove floor option. I think you click inside the room twice, anyway select to remove the floor and then dust can’t accumulate and ignite.

I thought about that, but I may need the space for additional rooms at some point. I did create a passage way into these rooms and put the Roombas in. It's very odd to see an 'army' of Roombas, with their green running lights going all through the entire second floor! So long, as no fires breakout. That's one less chore my Sims and/or the Butler needs do.

Not as often as I should. But, that's a good theory.

I have a rule, 1 robo-vacuum on every floor. I've never had a dust fire.
I will. That way if anyone else is facing this dilemma, they'll have their answer. Many thanks to all of you who weighed in!

Oh you thought I was joking. I get it. I give my hard earned advice and get stiffed on the fees. *sigh* This is my life.
Oh, sorry, that too, made me chuckle.

I like it because it gives the Sim at home something to do, besides the laundry, changing the baby's diaper, et al.
