Sims 3 Launcher has stopped working.

«1
I need every solution, preferably the one that works, you have to offer me. But I've already looked everywhere online and have tried everything. I ijust bought it yesterday and the Launcher just says, "Sims 3 Launcher has stopped working." And that's it. I can't play. I'm mad.

Here's what I tried:
- people say to go to the DC Cache file and delete missingdep.idx but I don't have this file in my computer.
- people say to bypass the launcher by going into the files and clicking TS3.exe but an error message pops up. It's not possible to launch the game this way.
- people say to run as administrator but it won't work like this either.
- I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and I am currently installing again because someone told me that there would be an option to repair the launcher in Origin if I deleted the Launcher file. He lied.
- I have downloaded the Super Patcher to update my game to the most recent patch but this did not solve the problem either.
- A video on youtube suggested using a Windows Tweaking app thing but it took 2 hours and it didn't work.

This is beyond frustrating. This is something that shouldn't even be an issue but it is??? This should have been fixed forever ago but apparently it's been an issue since 2013. What am I doing wrong? What else haven't I tried?

your patched to 1.67 in the lower left hand corner of your launcher? What eps are you playing ? do you have origin installed?

Can you post you computer specs please

windows Key + R Key in the runbox type DxDiag, hit ok and save a copy of the text file to your desktop. Please copy and paste the text file in sections in several posts. The report will not fit in all one post its too large . Thank you

I have tried the patch and it installed fine but the launcher still won't load. The pop-up still comes up. I don't have any expansion packs currently installed but I have Late night and High loft stuff available but I just figured if I can't even get the base game to load, the ep's would follow suit. I have origin installed and I have Sims 4 and it works fine so I'm very confused.

And okay, I'll post the specs.

Uh, probably gonna get banned for spamming random stuff so I'll stop there since there's so much. Let me know if there's anything specific from that text stuff you need to see.

Having the same issue. Did you download the base game from origin or from discs?
I have the base game via discs, but thought it would be easier to just download via origin. I might uninstall and reinstall using the discs instead of origin
  • redirishrose2005redirishrose2005 Posts: 127 Member
Got mine to work without the discs.
Original Program Files were under Electronic Arts. For some reason, when you download via origin it puts it under Origin Games. I created a folder called Electronic Arts. Put the sims files in there and made sure NONE of the expansion pack files were on the game. I then updated the game using the update file in the technical thread. After updating. I immediately checked to make sure the launcher worked.

I bought the disc because I didn't want to use Origin but lo and behold it turns out that I have to use it anyways. The disc is in but it's downloading from Origin? I had to uninstall again so I'll try it your way but I had already had it an Electronic Arts folder so I don't know :/ and can I get a link to the thread you mentioned?

you wont get banned for posting your computer specs.

your processor is slightly under powered to play the game but its your video card that will probably give you the most issue with this game. You have an integrated video card that is using your computer ram. The game needs a good dedicated video card that runs o its own ram. The games requirements are for a med level gaming desktop not laptop and laptops are weaker than desktop so you need a higher end gaming laptop to play this game properly . Your laptop is not designed for gaming and does not meet the requirements to play the game

yes disc or download you need origin to play this game.

You would have to test out what your computer can handle if it will run the game, but start with the base game only and test. There some eps I would not even play on your computer Pets, Seasons, Into the future and Island paradise need a good video card to play them. They are more demanding than some other eps but Pets is the most demanding.

I would check with hp for driver updates on your laptop model. Make sure the game is in native resolution 1366 x 768(p) (60.026Hz). Lower your settings in game settings. If you can get your computer to play the game make sure you invest in a laptop cooler if you don't own one

That's fine and all but I don't think that's the reason my launcher isn't working. I haven't been able to test out what redirishrose said yet but if it doesn't work what else would you suggest? This was apparently a huge problem in 2013 if that helps at all

Just one simple suggestion for you... try ts3w.exe to start the game ... it will then start whatever EP/SP you have (even though you haven't installed them yet). The game used to let you run it without Origin if you have an older disc. They changed that on newer discs.

    Good luck to you.

The launcher wont work if your computer cant play the game

I have a very similar laptop to you (HP Pavillion notebook) and I've been having a similar problem, my laptops been playing the sims 3 for a while now pretty well (apart from some graphic errors but nothing major) so I used a code on origin yesterday for an expansion pack , it all downloaded fine but once I came to press play on the launcher, it would disappear but wouldn't begin any game. After a few tries I uninstalled pretty much everything & re-installed the original sims 3 and it worked perfectly. So when I came to download my expansion again today it's asking me to update the sims3 on the launcher (which it says is up to date and can't connect me to the page even though I'm logged in online) I really have no idea how to get around it! Maybe it is just the platform as I don't even have an internal disc drive on this laptop and have to use an external one! If you find any solutions let me know.

did you patch the base game before trying to install eps again? Also if you added an expansion pack and the launcher would not open but the game was playing ok before the expansion pack your computer is telling you it cant handle that expansion pack and probably why the game wont open. If you already were running into graphical issues before adding the ep adding more eps will only make that issue worse.

I've played this on a crappier computer years ago. It crashed a lot but at least I COULD play. Now, I can't even get into the launcher OR the gam. Idc anymore. This is too much complexity for me to handle.

Thanks for trying but I don't think you understood the problem.

I do understand your problem. Each computer is different and this game likes some computers more than others. Just because it played on a low spec computer you previously owned does not mean it will play on this one.

no two computers are the same. you could have several of your make and model computer some may play the game and some wont.

your best chances of getting this game to play properly is to own a gaming laptop or pc that meets the recommended requirements to play this game

I also uninstalled, reinstalled from the simslauncher in the program files. THEN updated it with the cumulative update file. It is worth a shot. I came on here because I was having the same problem The launcher just wouldn't turn on. AND I know it isn't due to my specs. I just upgraded everything except my hard drive and mother board and it worked on the computer before the upgrade.

You sound like a person who has a computer that can play the game. Op can not upgrade their laptop. OP does not have a computer that meets the requirements to play the game. This will cause the launcher to stop working. They were advised to troubleshoot. Update their drivers, remove eps and test the base game only first and see if the game will play and go from there. Some low end computers can not handle the super patch why op should be testing base game only to see if it will play with the 1.67 patch

I apologize for being douchey earlier. I was upset because I just wasted money on a game I thought would work on my computer. I still don't understand why the launcher won't at least work but I've moved on. I can't afford a gaming computer or to upgrade to one that will at least work right now but I've read that some people still have problems with higher powered computers so I think I'll just forget about Sims 3 lol...

    I'm just gonna play Sims 4 and hope it gets more interesting in the future. I would plays Sims 2 but it won't install ;-;

Thats ok. This game likes some computers not others. I have seen it be able to play on some lower end pc's but it will not play on many of them. If you have eps on there that are too powerful for your computer the launcher may not even load the actual game and quit. Why I stated play with only the base game and see if your computer will play the base game.

Higher end pc have no issue playing it. Some are fine and others not at high speed. The game will get jerky in high speed for some. So the key is don't move the camera around in high speed. It plays fine on my gaming laptop and on my sons gaming desktop high speed is just awful.

do you have the sims 2 download Ultimate collection or are you trying to play on disc? If you don't have the download if you show ea proof you have the sims 2 they will give you a free download of the whole game. You then maybe able to play it or put the game in compatibility mode for xp or vista

contact ea through customer service. They may make you take a picture of the disc, booklet some kind of prof you own it. You may get lucky on the first try and some have had to contact them several times to get a nice cs rep willing to give you you the ultimate collection but try until you get one
