  • Hey there! If you haven't started already, you might want to check out my primer for avoiding neighborhood corruption. https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/931101/the-sims-2-primer-avoiding-game-and-neighborhood-corruption/p1 Before opening your neighborhood you'll want the antiredundancy and anti-spawning hacks…
  • I got back on the sims after a long time without it: made myself a new default alien skin and I can't WAIT to see the alien babies. Mostly I've been Marie Kondo'ing my CC and trying (with mixed success) to learn to mod. I've gotten pretty far behind on making PDF's of tutorials with illustrations, however. New Edenia…
  • Hey folks! Due to a new job I wasn't able to be on here much for a while, but I am going to PDF the safe game setup tutorial soon. In the meantime, I was trying to learn to tune mods.
  • ... Holy crumbs you've been busy. :) In the last day of the first year of New Edenia, Denise Ultra and Jasen Ultra had a major fight, which upset their middle child Robin, and they're going to get divorced some time in spring, I think. Mikael took his niece Phoebe, nephew Robin, and daughter Merideth to the woods, where…
  • If you have the father and mother in the same dorm or house, you might be able to use the "sims moving out with me," if you actively use the computer or newspaper to "find own place" or "move home," rather than letting the graduation party or the timer move him back. If not, I would use the summon shrub: when he's moved…
  • Today I discovered that child sims cry if they catch their parents arguing. :(
  • Your sim won't actually die of having zero hunger or zero sleep that quickly. Eat something (anything) first, since sleep cannot actually kill a sim. If they pass out before actually making a dent in their hunger bar, wake them up and make them eat more. Once their hunger bar is in the orange you can let them sleep, and…
  • This is probably because lots extracted from any iteration of the game need to be packaged and then re-installed to another game. It's perfectly possible to move lots between the two versions if you know what you're doing, but they don't transfer over automatically and you have to make sure that they go in the right folder…
  • When you convert a lot into apartments, the game checks that the entire area "behind" an apartment door is enclosed by fences or walls. If, for example, a stair leads down off a deck, the game counts this outdoor stair as being unenclosed on one of the floors even if the garden it leads down to is fenced. My guess is that,…
  • The easiest way to keep origin from messing things up is to disconnect games with it (a lot of work, these days) or make sure it's never allowed to update or play online.
  • SimPE has Sim Surgery and Alternate Sim Surgery, which will allow you to copy the appearance (and genetics) of another sim to your current one. Alternate Sim Surgery helpfully lets you copy from a sim in the CAS sim bin, not another neighborhood resident. Google them and use at your own risk. (Because I don't have much…
  • Moving an urn to a graveyard can cause problems, but right now it seems like your game should be safe for a little while at least. (Breaking an urn also causes problems, and of course deleting it is the worst thing you could do.) Absolutely do not resurrect the sim. :)
  • Yeah, I had double deluxe too. As far as I'm concerned, it is the base game, lol. :)
  • Pretty much any EA game that came out after... I think about 2005? Came with Securom. The reason that it crashes new loads is that every time you start up accessing those game files it checks to see if you're copying them and this is not something that most computers love. If you are using a newer windows computer you…
  • On a whim I decided to start up a subsistence-style somewhat prosperity challenge neighborhood. I'm just trying to make a semi-functional economy with the Plumbbob Keep sets - so far I've randomly generated 5 families, but I think I'm only going to do eight and then age everyone up a little bit and marry off the teens that…
  • Note: if you use a Chris Hatch mod, check to make sure it's recent. He retired before Free Time, if I recall correctly, and often people have updated his mods so they run better with FT and AL.
  • If you're using the in game camera and not a different screenshot program, it's possible that your camera was still saving to a messed up file path. Try removing the "storytelling" folder to your desktop and making a new "storytelling" folder for that neighborhood if you ever go back to origin-free gaming.
  • Use another photo host, photobucket... decided to implode about 10 months ago. :)
  • I think I remember someone troubleshooting this earlier... my instinctive reaction would be to use the batbox or the summon shrub to dismiss all of them before they can meet themselves, and then troubleshoot the lot. Was this an apartment, by any chance?
  • This is usually a securom thing. Either update your game, or run it cracked and remove securom.
  • I wouldn't know about a new patch, but the black shadows are consistently a problem with newer graphics cards, so I doubt that it's in the patch because they'd have to do a lot of work with making the game recognize a variety of newer graphics cards...
  • It's not a patch, it's a graphics and settings thing. You can follow these instructions, or look at my tutorial to make sure your graphics settings have been corrected.
  • You're probably looking for All About Style. Caveat downloader: not all the meshes have survived.
  • If you have a mod that messes with time in any way, it could be the culprit even if it's not new. (Some mods take a bit of playtime to throw up conflicts.) But, you also could have messed up the time settings in-game somehow. If you have a user startup cheat, is it possible that "slowmotion x" (Wherein x represents 0-8) is…
  • There is usually one main "telescope slapper" in a neighborhood - the game I think is supposed to pick a sim to spy on randomly, but like most parts of the game, it fails to be actually random. It's usually the sim with the first instance number in the neighborhood.
  • It's usually easier to use the sim blender to change names if you're unfamiliar with SimPE. Unfortunately, if you want to change the last names, you have to change the first name of each sim to the desired last name, copy first name to last name, and then change back to the desired first name.
  • Romance sims (and sometimes sims with a romance secondary) will get the negative memory of engagement by default. However, there appears to be a bit of fudgery with negative and positive memories sometimes - several premades have negative or positive memories that shouldn't have been assigned based on their current…
  • Definitely safer to use the summon shrub for this. Do NOT use the tombstone of life and death for other stuff while you're there: not all options are safe. A sim not in the family bin or in a lot is either in some sort of improperly-saved limbo (best case scenario) or they've been turned into a dormie, townie or NPC. Do…
  • They need to get collected into one location, for the sake of all our sanity. :)
  • Discovered today that the networking option from AL is fudged: specifically that when a townie offers an introduction to another sim they do it at random... picking out of a pool that includes object NPC's. (Obviously, if one of those turns up... DO NOT ACCEPT.) EA, whyyyyyy? The object NPC's don't live in the same game…
