it may be one of your keys isn't working. Probably the control; test this by hitting control and the left directional arrow, it should take you out of the game into the desktop. If it isn't the actual key that's broken I'm not sure what! It works fine for me on my Mac, which is a 2013 MacBook Pro and Yosemite

control-shift-c (at least on Mac) to open the cheat console, type in "testingcheats on" then delete it and put in "money x" x being the amount of money they should have. I just did this to set it to 0.
