Freezing Problems

Hi. Just started a new game and it keeps freezing in buy mode. I have tried EA towns and new towns with the same result. I have also tried with and without my mods folder and it makes no difference. I have disabled shop mode and this hasn't helped either. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

First thing to try if you don't already do this routinely is clear (delete) the five cache files on the top level of your user game folder. They will regenerate themselves on the next loadup.

If that doesn't help, as a test try pulling your entire TS3 user game folder out of Documents to the Desktop (or rename it) for safekeeping. The game will generate a new user game folder with no added content of any type at all on the next attempted launch. Does Buy Mode in a new test game on the clean game folder work any better?

My ea folder is in my D drive not documents as when I got this computer it loaded onto the SSD which isn’t big enough so was advised on here to move it. Does that make a difference?

No. I mean your user game folder wherever it's located. The one that has your saved games, Mods folder, Installed Worlds, Saved Sims, etc.

Hi. I did a whole fresh install of the whole game. Just added Riverview and my store worlds. Did a test in Riverview and it froze after about 5 mins. Could it be because my graphics card not recognised?

A fresh install doesn't necessarily replace the TS3 user game folder and usually doesn't accomplish anything though there could be some exceptions. Still waiting to hear if things improve or stay the same if you run on a clean game folder with no added content. One thing I neglected to mention is that the game likes to now hide the user game folder somewhere in OneDrive if the user has OD activated. This is not good, the cloud synchronizations that OD is really meant to be doing can destroy the game folder's operations.

What have you got for a graphics card, have you taken steps to limit its frame rate, and verified in-game that the frame rate is staying locked in at or under the refresh rate of your monitor?

To check: ctrl+shift+C to bring up the cheats console, type fps on (enter). As you play and move the game camera around, the displayed fps rates should never exceed the refresh rate of your monitor. Most are 60 Hz, so 60 fps but some monitors and laptop screens can run higher. To make the displayed rates go away, cheats console again and fps off (enter). This is much more important than graphics card recognition, but we can address that too if necessary.

I’ve moved the sims 3 file to desktop. When I go to launch the game it wants me to download it again. Is that right? My graphics card is GTX 1050. I have already capped the FPS & checked that it’s staying at 60.

Not sure we're talking about the same game folder then. The user game folder, the one that contains added player content in subfolders like Downloads, Mods, DCCache, Installed Worlds and your Saves that would typically be found within the Documents or My Documents library. Not the program install folder.

We never did hammer this down. There are two pieces to this game. The program install folders usually get installed in Program Files (x86) under Electronic Arts or Origin Games. The installs can be redirected, especially when working with more than one hard drive. But the user game folder is the one we are really meant to interact with on a regular basis.

Where exactly is your user game folder showing up?

Yes. I moved that one out of the Electronic Arts folder. Put it on desktop but can’t launch the game without downloading it according to origin.

No, sorry but I think there is still some confusion here or something very unusual is going on there on your end. There is nothing to download. The user game folder just regenerates if the original is renamed or moved. We aren't talking about the same thing. Can I see a screenshot of this folder that shows its contents and where it's located (before you moved it out, of course)?

This is what a user game folder looks like on Win 7, but it isn't any different except around the edges on other operating systems.

That’s definitely the file I moved. Can’t seem to post a pic on here.

Could it be because the desktop puts things on my SSD & the game is in D drive?

Now you have me wondering if you have more than one live user game folder on your system someplace.

But I am very sorry, I still have no idea what you are being told by Origin that needs to be downloaded. That folder is spawned by the Launcher and the base game program automatically if it is not already there, it is not downloaded from anywhere. Or to put it another way, if one were to play the game completely offline with no Internet connection at all (either not using an Origin install or instructing Origin to allow offline logins), and the user game folder were not there, a new one would still spawn.

It shouldn't matter which drive your Documents folder really resides on, but if you are out of or tight on space on the SSD, it would be best to redirect your entire Documents folder to the HDD (usually SSD is the C drive, and HDD is the D drive, but there could be other configurations).

My whole EA folder with Sims 3 & 4 is located in the D Drive. When I moved the Sims 3 folder from that drive to the desktop it was then located on the SSD. When I tried to launch the game through Origin it was as if it doesn’t exist and wanted me to download into DDrive again.

Just checking here, but are either the game install or the user game folder on the root (top) level of D? That won't work, these things need to be inside of sub-folders on D such as Documents, Program Files, or whatever you would like to have named them.

Other than that, we seem to be going in circles here. The user game folder is not downloaded, it has nowhere to be downloaded from. It is created by the program and is designed to be swappable or removable.

I suggest that you reach out to EA Customer Support for tech assistance or try the EA Answers HQ Board for TS3. There is either something very unusual about your install or I am simply not being successful in communicating the difference between a program install and a user game folder.

Sorry. I know the game folder is not downloaded but when I moved it to desktop which is located on my SSD drive, I was unable to launch the game without downloading it. I don’t understand why either. When I got this computer I asked then as origin put the game on the SSD & there wasn’t room. I deleted it all & did a fresh install on DDrive as suggested on here. I am understanding you but I don’t know why it won’t generate a new file as you said it would. Is it because it’s no longer in d drive?

I'm having similar issues with the freezing. I'm hoping things turn out better once I install sims 3 on my grandma's old(2 year old) desk top if we can ever find all the correct wires.
