Where to go to build a custom laptop

xiaoisxiaois Posts: 141 Member
As stated in the title, I wanted to find out where I can go to build a good quality laptop. Now before anyone asks, no I don’t really want a desktop. If I decide to get one, I’ve already been helped on which one to go for.

Thanks

You can't "build" a laptop. Their thickness, cooling and other specs are designed in a certain way, to make sure that everything fits into it. There are different configurations of the same model, but as for customising a laptop, the most you can do is extend storage and memory.
For the Sims, you'd need a gaming laptop, the downside of those, is that they are expensive, heavy compared to other laptops and have shorter battery life.

Where I come from there are certain companies that will let you choose the internals of your laptop. It's definitely way more limited than having a desktop built for you, but I did choose the processor and video card in my laptop as well as the RAM and the SSD/HDD. But it's not necessarily cheaper or better than just buying a gaming laptop off the shelf (in fact, I think mine was more expensive because it came with the 'convenience of choosing what was inside' ). Unfortunately I don't know where you live, and it's probably not in my country, so I can't help with any good places where they could do this for you. I hope someone else can. :)

Building a laptop isn't really a thing. Not like how you can build a great gaming desktop for a relatively cheap price. I googled around and there are some English sites around that lets you select the processor and the graphics card. Doesn't seem like you actually let them make a laptop specifically for you, but you just select what you want and they check in their store if they have a laptop that fits your needs.

If you really want to build it, a desktop really is the only way to do it properly. Anyway if you want it to play the Sims 4 most modern laptops will do. Take a look at the recommended specs and buy a laptop that fits your needs ;)

    RECOMMENDED SPECS:
    OS: 64 Bit Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10
PROCESSOR: Intel core i5 or faster, AMD Athlon X4
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GTX 650 or better
    MEMORY: 4 GB RAM
HARD DRIVE: 18 GB of Hard Drive space

I've got a €450,- work laptop that runs this game on high settings with quick loading times.

I'm not entirely sure why some folks in this thread are saying building a laptop is not a thing. If you wanted to do it yourself like you do a PC, it's still possible and do'able but sure - it's nowhere near as simple as building a desktop computer.

You can definitely configure and have a laptop custom built for you online, swapping out components just like you do a desktop computer. PC Specialist is a UK based company that do just this. Our company used to get custom built laptops for our data analysists from them. You can get a really well performing laptop from them, but the price tag is not cheap.

@IllyDior is your budget still $700 ? If so you will need a higher budget for a custom laptop. Around $800 just for off the shelf pre-built laptop. Custom would cost more than buying a pre-built laptop off the shelf

Desktop is definitely the way to go. I bought a new laptop however my son is building me a desktop which has way more options.

    Yeah, sorry everyone @Zppy972 @phoebebebe13 @AmySimms @ElCaptain @Olber @dorcsyful

I meant conifugure. And no, I got a job finally so I can spend more money, up to 1200 maybe?

I just want to know where I could go to configure the specs and everything that I want. Like how originpc does? But I’ve heard some bad reviews about them so I’m looking for alternatives. I am in the US btw.

And no, not really looking for a desktop right now, but I’ve already had help to choose one for when I go off to college so please stop suggesting it. Thanks

It meets requirements. 250 gb ssd is small with windows 10. If you use allot of CC and mods that ssd on C drive will get used up quickly and you may have problems gaming on it. When they say 250 gb it's not exact. We had someone in the forum that received 224 gb ssd. I have two SSDs that are slightly over 256gb. If you don't mind possibly installing the game on the second 1tb hard drive than it will work. You might be ok with 250 gb if redirecting your documents folder to the second hard drive as long as you don't put any other game but the sims 4 on C drive

a GTX 1050 ti would be fine if you go for a 500 gb ssd on C drive. Rather than a 1060 with 250 gb ssd.

You only need 8 gb ram for this game with running windows however 16gb ram is future proofing and better if you should multi task having allot of windows opened at the same time. I do not advise multi tasking while gaming though.

@phoebebebe13 I upgraded to the 500 gb ssd and then I have 16 gb of memory. It didn’t let me change the graphics card.

With the SSD it gave different models and makers, but I just chose 500 in the first listed brand. Does the brand of the SSD affect the performance? Just wondering

SSD come in different read and write speed. You can google and research the best SSD or research the SSDs they are offering you. The ssd's they offer you come with a different price tag for a reason. Both speed and available space. I have a Samung EVO .

PS they have a bunch of different laptop on cyberpower. i know when I checked the other day they had one laptop with a 1050 ti that was on sale for like $860 which will go higher when you customize it. It was offering only a 250 gb ssd but you can change that and add a second hard drive and more ram
