Blank Paint From Reference & Photos

Every time one of my Sims does one of these actions the canvas is blank or the photo is black. I have read that this is a problem with MacBook Pro w/ Retina display or if i had a sim paint from reference once it could affect gameplay as such. I don't want to play without my retina display and I don't want to start a new save. I just restarted my save not too long ago for other issues. I don't want to lose any progress.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hello
You may like to post feedback on this AHQ EA thread.
    http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/WORKAROUND-MAC-Black-photos/td-p/5660969
You could just turn the Retina display off when painting or taking photos , then turn it back on again afterwards and see if the issue remains,

    Hello @MooseGoose

I've moved this to the Mac section.

    - Which Mac OS are you using?
    - If you go into \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\, what value is set for "uiscale"?
If I don't actively respond here, I'm sorry. I can get a bit busy over at https://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/ct-p/the-sims-4-en

    Hello!
    -My OS is 10.12.4 (16E195)
-I went to that through Finder but I could not find anything in the Sims 4 folder that says "ui scale"

Try opening the "Options.ini" folder in the Edit program. However, do not change anything in that file. @MooseGoose

@Tremayne4260 Thank you for responding. I can't seem to find "edit program." I do have a file in my Sims 4 folder titled "Options.ini" but when I click it, I get an error that says "There is no application set to open the document “Options.ini”.
  • Tremayne4260Tremayne4260 Posts: 3,126 Member
Right click on the "Options.ini" file. You should see an option to "open with" and then an arrow. Hover over that option and you should see the "Edit" there.

You need to choose TextEdit in the list of Applications.

Do you happen to be using any mods? If so, do new photos & paintings still turn blank/black after removing the mods?

I use MC Command Center. I disabled the mod and the photos are not black. Does this mean it's a problem with MC Command Center?

    @MooseGoose

    Highly likely, I think.

Oh this isn't just a Mac thing... I +1 every time this topic comes up.
I play mod and cc free on the PC and this is still an issue for me..

All my reference paintings eventually turn black.

Report this on the site you got MC command from and alert them to this problem. They may not be aware of it. :)

    Thank you.

    - Is your game patched up to the most recent release? (The version number on the Main Menu should say 1.29.69.1020)
    - Can you send over your dxdiag?

I just ran a quick scan for updates and it says I'm all set.

I assume the video specs is all you need? If not let me know.
    Thanks.

@Uzone27 That's interesting. Even though you're on a Windows PC and this is the Mac forum, your specs. are pretty low so maybe this issue is related to low end graphics chipsets across the board? Is that possible @SimQARobo ?

    Gotcha.
For the record however you should know that the circumstances kinda rule out the video card, as invariably my Sim always finishes the painting and it's just fine. They only turn black after they have hung on the wall for a while...usually the next time I boot the game is when I will notice all the reference paimtings are black while all other painting remain fine.

Would you be willing to send me your save files? (Preferably with the paintings on the wall but not yet turned black)
