Aww, thanks everyone! And thanks so much to everyone who participated, many stories brought a tear to my eye last month... so touching! I enjoy reading them so much!
I actually have something that fits the theme this month. It was written last night in response to a prompt on Tumblr, but I realised there's a theme of 'Anew' running through it, so since it fits, it sits (to borrow a feline phrase). It's slightly more of a tranche de vie - a slice of life - than a fully self-contained short story, but it does have a beginning, middle, and end, thus I'm submitting it.
It's a companion story to my main one, so I thought it best to offer a bit of context for those who haven't read The Madness of Mr Goth. I wouldn't expect anyone to read an entire 70-chaptered story just to understand the finer nuances of a challenge submission, so a few words about the world and relationships are included before the story itself starts.
Mods: if the story doesn't fit the theme, or the need for context disqualifies it, then please move it to the 'for fun' category. Thanks
He sank onto the couch as the sounds of music and laughter drifted through the walls. His heart heavy and full, he slowly lay himself down, curling up and closing his eyes. Silent tears coursed down his face: a mournful stream down the stitching of the couch seat, ending in a small puddle of sorrow near the arm.

Here is my short story! It is a side story to my series The Cat Chronicles, but it is not necessary to be familiar with that series to read the short story. Likewise, readers of The Cat Chronicles can skip over the short story if they wish.
Yeah, same here @lisabee2 . I'm running way behind this month and have been having a block in gathering inspiration. I've got a few ideas swimming around in my head but nothing's come to fruition yet. I've only got a couple more days to get something down though so I'm desperately trying to kick start my muse.
Alright, all stories have been added to the list to my knowledge. Let me know if you don't see your story there so I can fix that ASAP.
I've finally come up with an idea so I don't forget to do things -- every time my chrome boots up, I've already got the sims forums loaded (from where I last left off, too!).
I think we have till January 31st to get our stories in, right. The rules say we have the entire month, so I'm thinking I have today and tomorrow to crank something out. Is this correct?
I've been meaning to submit something here after quietly stalking the thread, and well, the new year... I feel creepy saying that
It seems like fun and studying's got me too stressed to continue, so maybe writing something can ease it away! (Yay, optimism!)
Hopefully I can fit mine in (somewhat dangerously close to the end, but not too late?) I have something on my mind I could quickly jot down.

It is currently 7:01. You have just under 5 more hours.
Alrighty, I think I'm done tweaking it... The short I'm submitting is called "A Foreboding Dream."
Getting things within the limit is really hard. I got it right at the limit. It's amazing how many of you guys can do this! I'm already pooped. At least now I feel more inclined to study again. This was a good break.
It's just a short little autobiographical sketch of events that happened in my life some years ago. I don't think it's my best work but I hope you all enjoy it anyway.
