On which surfaces can the new jam/preserve jars rest??

«13
I am absolutely LOVING the new set, but I'm having an issue storing my jams and preserves.

I know they can go in inventories or in WA treasure chests, but I'd rather display them in my kitchen where they will look nice and be accessible to my sims without needing me to drag them about.

I know they can go in the baker's stand, but that doesn't look good in every kitchen, and (unlike fridges, bookcases, dressers, etc.) can't be placed behind archways because of routing issues. (Also, I think that will make guests try to buy my jams, which I don't want.)

I know they can go on counters but they seem to have a huge footprint because one jar takes up the entire counter.

I thought about putting them on the floor and lifting them up onto a surface using Debug Enabler but unfortunately that prevents sims from being able to pick them up.

I've got a couple on my dining table at the moment but it's far from ideal because the chairs get in the way when sims try to pick them up.

Does anyone have any alternative solutions for displaying these new objects in a way that looks nice but doesn't take up huge amounts of space? I've tried all the surfaces in the display section with no luck.

Thanks!

Well all i can figure with is is to make a pantry and use MOO, turn the bakery shelves backwards, put the jars on the shelves and slide them into the wall or between columns or in an arch..however you want them. Only thing is the sims can't pick the jars up, it will just be display. I was bummed that the jars are not only unstackable but that they can't be displayed on shelves.

Thanks for these responses, guys :-)

Yes, it is a routable solution I'm looking for, rather than just display, but I love that idea otherwise, krimsonnox. I'll bear it in mind for when I'm create a display of decorative objects.

I did work just out you can fit up to five on an end table. It's not exactly mass storage, but they can all be picked up (even the one in the middle), provided you leave at least three sides of the table exposed.

The others jars I'm just sticking in a chest in the garage for now

I'd still love to hear other solutions though, especially for small kitchens like the one I'm currently building.

I'm just using the bakery rack. I think it works well as pantry shelving.

I think that's what we were meant to use but because it takes up 2x1 squares and has got a certain style (and because of routing issues can't go behind archways to make it blend in better), I feel that it's something you really have to design the kitchen around, and the freedom to do that is not always there if the room is a weird shape or something like that.

If it's in a basement against the wall, like a root cellar, you might be able to MOO it into a 1x1 and center it with the edges hidden in the ground. :D

    Otherwise, maybe something like that...
    Bookcases on either side. etc.

Thank you, ciane! I will try that - not right now because the structure of my current build is already set, but for future ones :)

Love the bookcase idea (also for a future build - my current kitchen is way too pokey!). I'm finding those display shelves are pretty fussy when it comes to routing stuff, but hopefully it would work.

Someone on this forum posted some CC shelves that work. I can't remember exactly which thread.

Thanks, sunsetsorbet! I don't use CC but I'm sure others would be interested if you happened to stumble across the link again.

The only other decent surface I found (besides a mod solution) is a coffee table. You can put 17 jars on the regular size coffee table. That's an odd number, but I couldn't get any more than that to fit!

The problem is that the coffee table is lower than an end table. If it could be raised somehow...on a foundation or something with MOO?? I haven't experimented with it.

It's maddening that the jars won't go on any of the wall shelves I have or any displays.

Wow, 17? That's good! I don't think it could be raised up without making it unroutable, but perhaps there's some other way it could be brought to blend in.

What about some cabinets over it... and make it look like the lowest shelw in a storing unit?

hmm still some said they could use the SN cabinets for elexirs... but I havn't been able to... have any of you?

I wonder what happens if you fill up the big World Adventures display with jam and activate it.

I might try that, if I think of it, when I've next got my computer on.

but that dosn't look right in all buildings... and thats why GC is asking.... same for me in my curent the rack is ok ( can use it in the old kitchen and the pantery... but come a more moderen build it might not look right... even if recolored

have you tried out all the shelves in the shelving buy section? There are the display shelves from WA that are typically used in museums, I think some wall shelves came with generations or some other EP and then the cabinets from supernatural.

yes but that dosn't help if you want them out in the kitchen....

the shevls is an option... but some of us likes to try and find more options

yeah i guess that the easier solution. Im not really creative when it comes to MOO-ving objects together!! But Im always fascinated by some of the ideas creators have come up with

I have tried placing the jars on WA displays. No, they don't go. I've tried putting them on the SN elixir shelves. That doesn't work either. Not on picnic tables, wall shelves, dressers, or other game displays. They don't go in nectar racks either. They will go inside some storage units, but not sitting out. And a few can be set out on end tables or desks, but these will only hold 3 or 4 at most.

I was messing around with the coffee tables, and here's one arrangement I came up with quickly as just a demo. This is in Anna Liza Riddle's attic in Twinbrook. I put the tables on a platform to raise them up a little, but I guess that's not necessary. This size coffee table will hold 17 jars.

    RiddleCanning%2520%25281%2529.jpg

I don't own the bakery set, so those displays are not an option for me right now. And I don't have any great hopes of catching one of the DD flash-buys either! So my main answer are some CC shelves I already had in game. They will hold 55 jars when full. http://modthesims.info/d/432534

Oh, and BTW, I found out that if you sit jars out on community lots and then go to Edit Town to work on that lot again, all your jars will pop into your Family Inventory. They're considered your personal property even if you can on the site and leave the jars there.

Oh bother. I was hoping for an answer. We need a pantry to store our jams and preserves.
