Will the Sims 3 run at 2k with a GTX 960 4gb?

Hi, I know I can't play any hardcore games at 2k with my current graphics card, but the only games I really play are the Sims 2 and 3, so I was wondering if 2k was possible in the Sims 3 (maybe Sims 4 in the future) with a GTX 960 4gb?

You might have issues. I run the game on a 960 4gb card at 1080p. The higher the resolution, the better the video card you need. Also the higher the resolution, the smaller the UI in the game will be. You can't change the UI in this game. @chesterbigbird runs 2k on a 1080 card. She does not play this game on it

As far as the sims 4 goes , people have issues running it 4k on PC. Many have to play in windowed mode. Reports the game looks distorted. Then they can't read the UI at all. I don't know how the game runs in 2k .

Really these games were designed to run no higher than 1080p

I kinda figured that might be the answer, but its good to have confirmation. Even if I could get it to work, I don't think I'd be willing to deal with really small UI. I was thinking about upgrading to a 1080 for Christmas, but since I can't get 2k anyway I think I'll just keep my 960 and save the money

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question @phoebebebe13

Your very welcome. I agree., I can't stand the small UI. I even put my sims on a 1080p TV so I can read everything. I need the larger screen

I play in 2K resolution natively with a GTX 1070 and before that, a GTX 980. The UI does get smaller but for me, I can still manage to see it without straining. Anything higher and it's a no go. Depends on your eyesight and monitor screen size how this will affect you. A GTX 960 could pull off playing this game in 2K. I imagine you may notice a small drop in frames.

If you want to give it a trial run, you can try DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution).
What does DSR do? Simply put, it renders a game at a higher, more detailed resolution and intelligently shrinks the result back down to the resolution of your monitor, giving you 4K, 3840x2160-quality graphics on any screen.

Ignore 4k... you can use it to set the resolution to 2560x1440. This guide also mentions support is only for GTX 980/970 but Nvidia has since then added cards. This includes GTX 960. DSR requires optimizing the game with GeForce Experience. This is hit or miss... Often it causes problems for users and others, no problem at all. These settings are not permanent. You can always revert. No damage will be done from testing it. I would keep an eye on frames and temperatures. :warning: For anyone reading, do not attempt without a strong enough Nvidia GPU.

@SimplyJen The 1000 series cards are better than the 900 series . Just though I would add that . Your 1070 is allot stronger than the 960

Yes, I am aware of this.

OP was talking about upgraded, If you can run 2k on 1070 they would not need a 1080. a 1070 would be better than the 960. I believe you also game other games. OP is only playing the sims . Don't know if it would be worth trying to upgrade unless their card gave out

The 960 does run the sims games on ultra in 1080p

Yes, I understand were talking about Sims 3 and the OP is asking about a monitor upgrade. I'm talking about a trial run with DSR.

It's reversible. I've used it before for both Sims 3 & Sims 4. While it worked for me, the experience others may have can be different. Like I said, it's reversible.

I understand that it is reversible and glad you had a better experience using it .
