Parent doesn't know baby

My sim gave birth to a baby but when I got home from the hospital I realised she was acquaintances rather than friends. Once the baby aged to a toddler she had the option to introduce herself to the child. They're still classed as mother and daughter and the father was still friends with the baby so not sure why this happened. Anyone else experienced it?

This has occurred in the game of other simmers also. After introducing themselves to the toddler, the issue is fixed. It shouldn’t have occurred, but it has happened to other simmers also.
