Hi everyone. First off I want to say that I love The Sims 4. I like a lot of the objects, but I'm irritated everyday by the windows and doors. And these are just my opinions. I am gonna show you all what I mean.
This windows is fine, but the edges are just to much for me. Everything in the orange is great but the edges between red and orange is too thick. Since this is a basegame window it's still okay and this is not at all that bad.
Then we got Get Together. A European inspired world. In this picture I mean the same as in the first one. The edges are just too thick. Everything in the orange was all we need. This one makes me more upset, because this is supposed to be a European window, but the edges are too unrealistic! And I am European. I have never ever seen windows like these in real life.
In Get Together we finally got some stained glass windows. But the same goes for this one! The windows is nice, but all of that rectangular wood around it ruins it.
The inside is lit though. All that wood around it is gone. I wish it could also look like this on the outside!
This windows in this bay thingy look so good on their own. I wish they could make us a whole set of these!
This window is one of my favourites. I like the window itself, but the shutters too. I wish they would add this window without the shutters too.
I really liked the Romantic Garden stuff pack. However this window is just funky. The inside is beautiful! Something that we really need. But all of that outside stuff, between the orange and the red is an overkill and looks horrible in builds. This window has so much potential and I would really like a whole series of this window, without the thick edges.
For this window, we finally got a white colour after a while! But why not add a white colour for the whole set!!! Also, the patio door next to this window doesn't even reach the full height of a short wall. It really bothers me how all of the other windows are higher up than this door.
Vampires had some amaxing objects and wallpapers! But the windows and doors set was not realistic. The front door of this that actually matches the windows is way to short.
What if you want to build a Gothic/Victorian mansion (which this whole GP was inspired from) with high ceilings? Well you can, but the windows are so petit and their height is just incredibely unrealistic. I've never seen windows these small that are for mansions in real life.
And then, there was a silver lining! This window looks so good on the outside! But the inside is just horrible. Like seriously, all that decoration is just so unnecessary. I would have really liked a one-tile version of this window which could've been more narrow.
All of the windows and doors in the game just feel to experimental to me. I wish that they would make a whole set of just normal windows and doors for the base game. And most of the windows and doors added in packs aren't very accurate for what they represent. This is all I have to say! Thank you all for hearing me out.
Not so obsessed anymore with building in TS4!

That said, I don't know why we never get enough windows or doors, or any build mode thing in this game. It's frustrating how limiting it is and how poor the variety is not to mention the colors. The colors of the windows and doors often don't match, with each other and themselves. The smallest modern-like window only has three colors where the rest of the other ones has 6, like 🐸🐸🐸🐸.
BUT regarding the window height, I don't see the issue. Press alt and just place the window where you want, regarding it's height placement.
And if you do that, the window will be practically on the floor, or, in the case of the widow and door shown in the OP's 8th screenshot, actually on the floor, which looks really silly.
You are entitled to your own opinion, but this is how I see it: I don't find most of the frames realistic for a lot of the architectural styles. I feel like EA is being too dependent on windows and doors being iconic for a certain architectural style to a point where it is too much and unrealistic. Some window and door types in real life can be used for more than one architectural style. EA can add other things that bring detail to an architectural style, like more friezes, roof trims, spandrals, wallpapers, floor patterns, roof patterns, etc.
Exactly! We never seem to get enough build mode objects.
My problem is that the top of a window and door of the same kind of set, aren't the same height. And this makes a lot of builds very sloppy and again, unrealistic. For example: the new front door from Vampires in the 9th screenshot is so short that it makes every Victorian/Gothic mansion with heights ceilings look like a joke! If I want the windows and doors from Vampires to have the same height, I would have to place the window very low that it leaves a big gap of unused wall that looks terrible not only on the outside, but especially on the inside!
And like @FKM100 said, in the 8th screenshot the windows would have to be all the way to the bottom of the floor to match the top height of the door, which looks silly.

Yes, you see the windows in The Sims 4 on some real buildings, but I would like to see that more. I would like more of these windows and doors you see in real life buildings to be added in TS4. And I am not saying that the windows and doors are made up architectural whimsies. It's just that EA seems to have inspiration for new windows and they kind of mess it up by adding these big frames and less surface that is actually window. I like a lot of the windows and doors in the game, but everytime they add new windows and doors they just seem to be quite not there, for me at least.
Having seperate shutters would be amazing! And my problem with the windows and doors here is only about TS4. I think that the previous versions of The Sims did a better job at windows and doors.

YES! That would be a very effective feature and I don't think it's that hard to develop.

Half-tile placement for windows and doors is something that this game needs. Rarely do we get entire sets of doors or windows so giving build mode a little more freedom for where they can be used would be really helpful.
