    Assignment 7 - Wedding Day - Final
    Enlarge to see full size

    GdZcTeo.png

It was inevitable that the marriage between us would eventuate, we just didn’t know when. Mike was a stickler for ensuring we had enough money. At one time the bride’s parents would pay for everything but not so in more recent times. If we were to have the wedding we wanted, a certain percentage would be coming out of our own pockets even though Mike’s parents helped out. But being Mike, he would be sure to manage the money side of things and put as little pressure on our parents as possible.

He’d suffered a job he hated for years but wouldn’t get out of that business, no matter how much I tried to persuade him. He had to be sure I went through my university course first, we had a house or at least a piece of land to build a house and enough left over to pay for the wedding we wanted. I left it up to him as I trusted that he would get us through no matter what.

For something old, Mike had turned his grandmother’s pearl necklace into a bracelet of pearls with earrings to match and presented it so I could wear them on our day. For something borrowed, I wore my mother’s wedding dress with a few adjustments. For the blue, my garter, which he enjoyed taking off during the reception, and the ring of course, for the new.
When the day did come, we knew it would be perfect, it had an outdoor area, with trees, water around us by ways of a gorgeous fountain in the middle of the guests’ seating area. Inside, a piano and bar, with a dance floor. A banquet of food and drink fountains. The venue in fact was perfect.

The only down side to the day was that in the wedding cars on the way there, we struck busy traffic and became banked up at most stop lights. At one stop light no cars could move for ages, Mike and I were sure we’d be late for the reception after all the photographs we’d had taken at a lakeside rose garden before heading there. Whilst banked up, a car whizzing into a driveway across from where we’d stopped, caught our eye. A man jumped out and raced inside.

“Ha…you think he’s forgotten something?” Mike and I laughed.

“I think so, he’s in an awful hurry.” I looked over to the house again and saw the car he’d jumped out of start to roll backwards and it was coming straight for our wedding car. “Mike look!” I yelled.

As it came the poor driver could do nothing to avoid a collision. It came out and caught the back corner of our wedding car. It happened in a matter of seconds. Fortunately for us it moved slowly and because our car was stationary, it didn’t cause too much damage, and more importantly none of us were hurt. It delayed us that much more though, but the driver was wonderful and rang to let people know at our reception venue what had happened.

The rest of the day, however went off without a hitch.

Most of all I wanted the fairy tale, a balcony overlooking the whole area, where he’d climb up with a rose in his mouth to give me. He chose a pink rose because I had a friend at uni, that could see auras and she said pink was the colour of mine, which meant I exuded a lot of love and, of course Mike under all that serious logic, showed the true romantic side of him that day. He actually climbed the balcony and did exactly that. This shot was taken on that very balcony. Everything we’d talked about wanting on the day came through with few glitches.

The photographer after hearing our story, had Mike and I pose like he was my knight in shining armour and I was the damsel in distress he’d just saved. To begin with Mike didn’t like the idea, he thought it to be ”corny”, I think was his exact word, but he did it for me and the shot here is a result of this.

We had many more shots taken on this balcony, in front of the fountain, dancing the bridal waltz and just about everywhere we could.
Even after all this time I remember our wedding day like it was yesterday. I read in the paper just the other day that a couple, both over 100 years old celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary. Mike and I have a goal to beat those odds and I have no doubt we will.

The part about the car was actually what happened on our wedding day, would you believe.

But I think I got it through now!!!!!

Thank you for the feedback, @BeechNutBaby and that was "the moment" for us in real life and in this story. That is why I used it for the assignment, and as you didn't specify like you said, I followed the brief as it was because sometimes you do just know, and in our case we did :) I do know from running my own comps, that our own interpretations and expectations may be different to the contestants and sometimes you have to go with that, especially when you have to judge on your own. I wish I could help out there, but as I'm a contestant, it's not possible or practical. Hope someone helps you out for S & S.

I really do admire your dedication and committment to these comps as well. :)

Thanks for the scores/feedback beech! <3 I really appreciate your dedication to this type of comp, as I know that the story aspect does make it a bit more difficult to judge/keep judges around till the end. I really am grateful that you still offer them as you know they are my favorite comp type.

Congrats @Simanite for another great round. I've finished my edit, just need to work on my story...a bit of a warning in advance, I have tendinitis so I'm probably gonna be full of typos! :D

    ASSIGNMENT 7: GRAND FINALE

It was a misty Saturday morning the day of our wedding. I stood in front of the big picture window in the groom’s chamber overlooking the botanical garden grounds. The ceremony was scheduled to begin at ten am, and by nine am I had already warn the rug across the oaken floors thin pacing and vomited not once but twice into the potted plant in the corner of the room. My heart raced at a fierce pace. Any attempt to calm my anxiety with deep breathing would lead to me forgetting to breathe all together. I wasn’t unsure of what I was doing by any account. If there was anything I was sure of it was that this is where I wanted to be. However faced with the actual event, I was finding myself trembling like a small child, completely paralyzed by the magnitude of the even about to take place. My stress load was doubled knowing that my father not only disapproved, but refused to even attend the event. I had never fought my father the way I did the night I told him my intention to marry Kaire. He had never laid such harsh words to my ears. We hadn’t spoken in the weeks since, and I longed for him to be there, telling me to calm myself and prepare for what was to come. When the inevitable knock came on the door, I felt my stomach giving out once more as my mind alternated dramatically between wanting to run and praying to God that Kaire didn’t run. One more deep breath entered my body as I walked forward and opened the door. “Are you ready?” my father asked smiling widely. My heart calmed, and I felt relief wash over my body.

“I am now.” I smiled back. He extended his arm down the hallway.

    “After you.”

“Thank you father.” I whispered hoarsely. I held out my hand, grateful he was there.

“No son.” He replied, pulling my hand towards his body and hugging me warmly. “Thank you. I’ve made a lot of mistakes with you over the years….but not this. This won’t be one of them.”

The grand hall was decorated beautifully with white linen and tulle draped from arch to arch. Light pastel roses and sprigs of green broke up the cascades flowing through the room. As I walked down the aisle, passed smiling faces of friends and family alike I beamed with pride. Then…the whole room rose up in unison, and my heart jumped from my chest and followed my eyes to the opposite end of the room. Kaire walked in, and ever fear, every doubt, drained away with every mistake I made along the way. The most beautiful woman in the world was walking down a crinoline lined aisle towards me, and she was mine.

The ceremony was traditional; with the exclusion of the word obey at Kaire’s request. When I was given permission to kiss my newly titled wife I nearly knocked over our officiator pulling her to me. Kaire laughed, our guests cheered, and I had never been so happy in my life.

After the ceremony Kaire and I were escorted around the gardens by our photographer. We had decided against a large bridal party, choosing instead to stand on our own before each other. We moved from location to location making memories to look back on in the years to come. Near the waterfall Kaire was pulled aside to take pictures in the pavilion. I stood patiently aside watching the water flow over the rock formations, Lost in thoughts of everything that had transpired over the course of all my time with my new wife. I was pulled back to the moment by Kaire looping her arm through mine, and pulling me in the opposite direction of which I was facing. “Come on.” She sang sweetly. “We’re going this way.” I turned my head towards her and gazed into her soft brown eyes. My whole life I knew exactly where I was going. I never faltered in my direction, nor did I ever question my decisions. Then one day she came into my life, and completely changed the course of it. Just like that gentle tug on my arm on our wedding day, I knew I needed to follow her. Wherever she goes, that is where I am meant to be.

A few months later, when going over our wedding photos, I found a shot the photographer had taken of that moment by the waterfall. I keep it now, in my office at the company I co own with my father. It serves as a reminder of how truly unpredictable life really is…and how wonderful of a thing that can really be.

    Assignment 7: Grand Finale

    Landon:
In a perfect world Bethany and I would be together forever. We would survive our long distance relationship. In fact, it would become something to laugh at when we were older. Laugh at how silly we had been to worry like we did.

In a perfect world I would propose to Bethany the day she graduated. Bethany is far from old fashioned, but I would ask her mother for permission anyway. After the graduation ceremony I would take Bethany on a long car ride up the coast to our favorite restaurant. The manager would seat us at his best table, which would be candle lit. I would drop to one knee, with a small blue box in my hand. I would tell her how much I love her, and that I would spend the rest of my life trying to make her as happy as she had made me. With joyful tears in her eyes Bethany would say yes, and we would embrace in a kiss as the whole restaurant cheered.

In the perfect world things would work out this time around. My team would be in the same city as her grad school. We would get a small but nice apartment overlooking the city park where we would walk our dog.

In a perfect world I would have everything that I ever wanted. The best part would be that I would go through life with Bethany by my side.

    Bethany:
In a perfect world Landon would be 100% supportive of my want for a career, and for a family. He would stand by me every step of the way, cheering me on much in the same way I cheered him on during his football games.

In a perfect world finishing grad school and planning a wedding would be a piece of cake. Landon would be making so much money as a professional football player that we could hire the best wedding coordinator to help with all the details.

In a perfect world our dream wedding would be on the beach overlooking the ocean. I have always wanted a small wedding, but with the size of his family the wedding would be huge. Each one of his nieces would be a flower girl, and each of his nephews a ring bearer. I don’t have a father to walk me down the aisle, but Landon’s grandfather, whom I have always been close with, would be honored to step in.

In a perfect world we would have a professional photographer documenting this special day. Landon would look stunning in his white shirt with khaki pants. I would have a semi-formal white dress with a crown of flowers in my hair. We would sell the pictures to all of the gossip magazines, but donate the money to charity. The magazines would want the posed pictures. Yet, the best ones would have been when it was just Landon and I being our usual goofy selves. And we would keep those to ourselves.

In a perfect world I would look into Landon’s eyes and know that he is my everything. I would vow to love, honor, and cherish Landon until death do us part. And I would know that we would be together forever and for always.

In a perfect world life would be like a fairy tale. I would have Landon playing the part of my Prince Charming, and we would live happily ever after.

Unfortunately, the world is not perfect.

I never intended for Landon & Bethany to ever get married to each other. In fact, there were several hints in each assignment that sort of alluded to that. Therefore, this is a what could have happened type of scenario.

@Socallucyfan my initial plan was to kill Kaire off...but that storyline made me sad so I gave them their happy ever after. At least here I did. ;)

But knowing what an amazing writer you are, I'm sure her death would have been super fun to read.
