It turns out she's miscalculated her parents' work schedule. Kimi meets her at the door and is furious. "Why aren't you at school?! You can't keep spending almost every night at that boyfriend's house, it will ruin your education. Do you understand how serious that is?!"
Kimi refuses to let her inside, and sends her off to school without letting Mira try to explain how she feels.
But Mira has no intention of going to school today. Since she wasn't allowed inside to eat breakfast, she buys some food at one of the stands in the neighborhood.
Then she heads to the art center in Newcrest to practice keyboard. Her moms can go on about school as much as they want, the only thing Mira really cares about is music. Plus it helps her deal with the loss of her grandmother.
While she's practicing, she starts talking to a very handsome guy who's playing guitar next to her.
His name is Osvald, and they get along immediately. When they're done playing instruments, they go out in the back of the building to play some basketball together.
Mira feels a strong connection with Osvald right away. He's a little older than her, but still a teen. A little mysterious, a very interesting guy. And an artistic soul, like her!
So she agrees to go to a club with him that evening.
Within minutes, she has completely forgotten about Henri. He's just faded away in the background of this new, intriguing encounter. There's something about Osvald that makes Mira completely dispose of all memories and responsibilities and give in to the situation.
She feels like this is exactly what she needs, and this is the first time she has forgotten all her grief. She feels free.
The feeling of freedom and lightness lasts all the way until the next morning, when she is suddenly woken up by Tara. Mira has overslept for school again, and the following conversation does not have a single element of understanding or mutual respect.
Finally, Tara gives up and shouts that Mira can skip school if she likes, but she'll have to deal with the consequences alone.
So Mira spends the day at home while her mothers are at work. The combination of boredom and contempt towards her parents makes her decide to do something really mean. Kimi has spent several days working on a beautiful mural on her studio balcony. Mira finds the spray cans and decides to ruin her mom's hard work.
When Kimi comes home and catches her, Mira shows no regret. "Does it look like I care?"
In order to avoid her moms when she's at home, Mira stays in her room as much as possible. She's starting to get pretty good at playing guitar. But when in her room, she also gets time to think - and gets a stroke of bad conscience. This is not the person she really wants to be.
The next morning, she gets up early in order to get properly prepared for school for once. Kimi seems really happy about this, but doesn't say anything to praise her daughter.
She also understands she has to do something about Henri, be respectful enough to let him know that she's found someone else. So she arranges to meet him the next day, but she's not happy about having to do this.
The way she ends up telling him is clumsy and way too harsh. Nobody likes being told that your loved one found someone "better", and Mira doesn't know how to be sensitive about it.
Henri gets extremely upset, and yells at her in front of the whole art square.
Then he storms off. Well, at least she's done with it.
Just as Mira started trying to do things right, her parents get informed that her grades are down to a D. Tara panics and starts forcing Mira to do lots of catch up homework.
This leads to lots of newly kindled frustration in the house, and we're back on the same negative track.
But at least Mira has Osvald. He's being totally affectionate and sweet, and she spends as much time with him as possible.
Osvald actually lives with a roommate in a rundown apartment and not with his parents. He's almost a young adult, and his parents agreed to let him have some extra freedom early. This is perfect for Mira, who has a bad experience with parents in general - and it means they have a place to throw lots of parties.
Mira's only problem with these parties is her jealousy, that kicks in whenever Osvald talks to another girl.
But he is aware of her feelings, and they usually manage to sort it out.
The apartment is not big, and neither is Osvald's room, but there's room for Mira there whenever she wants.
At home, Mira thought things couldn't get worse. But now, it seems like her parents have almost given up on her. When she actually tries to get their attention, they ignore her. Tara doesn't even help her with the homework anymore.
They don't even notice her emotional breakdowns, Mira's desperate cries for attention. She feels totally alienated in her own home now.
The fighting goes on and on. And one evening, Mira cries out that she doesn't want to live here anymore.
Tara doesn't act like she takes her seriously, she's like "oh yeah, where would you go?" Mira is boiling with anger and just feels like getting as far away as possible. "I'll show them!"
Hello everyone! (I know at least 3 people read this thread )
I will make some changes soon. Because whenever I play Mariana and Vetle's family, I cannot for the life of me decide on one of their children to focus on in the next generation. I want to play them all! So I've decided to move this branch of the family tree to a new save and give them their own legacy rotation when the kids start moving out. I will be making a new thread for the Justøy legacy, while Albert and Mira's stories will stay in this thread.
I'm very much looking forward to this, I think I will have so much fun with the five Justøy children when they grow up and start their own lives. And I can't wait to bring cats and dogs into their homes!
I will post a link here to the new thread when it's ready. Hope to see you there!
Meanwhle, Mira's difficulties continue. But she's found what she thinks is the solution to her problems. Osvald and Micaela have agreed to let her move in with them!
So now she's the youngest teenager in a teenage household. When she packed her bags and stormed out, her parents saw it as a childish gesture and they feel sure she'll be back soon. But Mira has no such plans. She already feels so much more at home in this rundown, tiny apartment with her friend and new boyfriend.
She's not used to doing her own housework, but she doesn't mind it - she's so happy to be independent.
She brought her guitar with her, and continues to practice as much as she can. She's not interested in going to school a lot from now on, so she's hoping to make money from playing guitar in the street.
So far, Mira's plan to make money from her guitar playing is not going too well. She's starting to realize she needs to get better first.
But this means she has to find other ways to contribute to the rent in the meantime. She manages to get a job in a fast food restaurant, but she's not exactly motivated for the job.
Osvald is already making money on his creativity. He makes beautiful paintings that he sells at markets and such.
He seems to have a lot of friends and admirers, and Mira can't help but feeling jealous sometimes.
Osvald would ideally like to sell his paintings in an art gallery, but for now he's selling them on the streets. The spice festival is a good event for making some money.
But despite the mouse problem being managable, the apartment is not exactly easy to keep clean.
Then there are the leaking pipes and the fuse box that breaks pretty regularly. Is that a cockroach on the carpet?!
When the fuse box breaks again and all the power in the apartment shuts off, Micaela has had enough. Now that useless landlord needs to get over here and fix these things!
The landlord finally shows up, but he makes sure to let them know he would rather be somewhere else.
They thought they had a good relationship with their neighbors, but one day it turns out the family next door has had enough of Mira's amature guitar playing.
Micaela is not happy with being yelled at by her neighbor, and reacts in a pretty immature manner.
Now that Mira works at a diner, she needs to learn how to cook. Back home, she never cooked a meal in her life. So she has to start from scratch.
Albert hasn't been much in contact with Pri after she left. Their kids have, but he's mostly stayed out of it. But one day when he's supposed to work from home but decides to learn how to bake instead, he gets a sudden urge to call Pri without the usual accompanying feeling of sadness. So he gives her a call and asks if she might be interested in some sugar cookies.
She's down for the cookies, so she stops by shortly after and they have a nice and relaxed chat.
Then the kids come home, and are super thrilled to see their mother.
Pri leaves before Silvia gets home from work, just to not cause any unnecessary fuzz. But Aurora tells her stepmother anyway over dinner just to annoy her. Since Silvia is the jealous type, it obviously works - and the atmosphere at another family dinner is ruined.
As an attempt to lighten the mood in the house, Albert has a surprise awaiting the children when they get home from school the next day. He has adopted two kittens, one for each of them!
And they sure are surprised!
Aurora's kitten is almost totally black and short-haired. Aurora names her Yin.
Jonatan is getting a male long-haired white cat, who he calls Pepper. It's love at first sight!
You might have noticed in the last post that their living room looks quite different now. The family decided to change a few things about the house, especially the kitchen/living areas and the garden. There's a new roof formation at the front now, over an outside dining area with a door leading right into the kitchen.
Next to the kitchen there's a cosy play area for the kids.
And then there's the back of the house, which looks totally different now. They've build a gazebo where the greenhouse used to be, and moved all the plants to a new terrace on the second floor.
The modern extension of the house is mostly windows now, but the ceiling windows are gone and they have a new terrace instead.
The kittens are not always getting along that well, Yin is a territorial cat who frequently challenges the always calm Pepper.
Still, they always stay close to each other and seem to be good friends deep down.
After that one time Albert spontaneously invited Pri over for cookies, they have started meeting regularly - in a friendly way, but Silvia doesn't know about it.
Just as well, because it's hard to tell how long it's going to stay just friendly. The two of them seem to be warming up to each other again, and Albert is grasping at a hope that Pri has started regretting her decision to leave him.
But whenever Pri is around to meet her kids, the naturally jealous Silvia can sense that something is not right.
Pri's pretending like she doesn't know what Silvia's worried about, but Silvia gets more and more suspicious and hostile every time Pri turns up at the house.
Albert is getting really tired of all the hostility, so he confronts Silvia directly with her behavior and says she has nothing to worry about.
That doesn't put her mind to rest at all. She's been through this before, she can tell when the story's about to repeat itself.
Almost every meal over the next few weeks, Albert and Silvia start fighting at the table. The kids don't react to it anymore. They don't like Silvia anyway.
And they have their grandma who gives them comfort and keeps their minds off the grown ups' problems.
