You guys seem to be forgetting the Best Of also gets a lot of notice and many go ahead and like or awesome comments in there, too. It also counts toward people's totals. It's not just about the post they make but what is seen by many more than just reading forums. It attracts many who enjoy it and they like the replies and or awesome them so when counting your totals of how the leaderboard is being 'manipulated' you have to take into account there are more here who never log in to post but read and hit the like button. My question remains who would keep up with it changes every Sunday unless they are bothered by who is on it.
I agree with this. We do have some members who would just prefer to read the forums but don't really want to comment on anything as some have either seen other members being attacked for their opinion or they're just too shy to and/or socially awkward to make posts and comments, so they just read and go do other things instead of worrying about being on the forum for anything else. I just don't understand why people just don't want to believe the reasons that was already given about how some end up with more points than others... :/

The way some of these people are so worried about the leaderboard reminds me of some of the people on my friends list on Facebook. I have some friends who have either decided to leave FB or have said that they want to leave FB because they don't get any Likes or any of the other emojis that you can get on a post from any of their friends. REALLY? You're going to be so upset that no one likes any of your posts that you make? We are not in any type of popularity contest and we sure as heck don't get any type of rewards for being #1 on the leaderboard. The only things that the points do is assure that New Members will be full members once they get their 50 points and the other requirements and then the points are just meaningless and don't do anything else.

I said a long time ago to take me off it, it seems to rile some. But they need to understand some of us were here before the site was actually up and running fully. We were here a few days or longer before everyone else. Some of our post numbers were carried over from when TS4 Discussions were on the TS3 site. I don't know if when the entire community joined this site from TS3 if their posts totals were carried forward to here. I have created 700 Threads myself so it's not hard to imagine I may have more numbers than others. I had plenty of disagrees, too, LOL until they removed those. And I have commented five times as much as the threads I have created. In the thousands (in replies) so it sort of makes sense to me.
Exactly. The people that is on the All Time Leaderboard are members that was on the old TS3 site and so their post count carried over to this site. And any member that joins this site that was on the old site will have their post count carried over as well providing that they use their old TS3 account to join this site and not make a new one.

I really don't know why EA would chose to have a leaderboard in place for. I'm sure that they were well aware that it might upset some people for having it up and that it would cause problems with those who are really never on it. I guess they figure that we would are be mature enough to handle it and have fun with the leaderboard but in my opinion, it's done the opposite of what they thought that it would do. We do have some people who didn't know anything about the leaderboard as some people don't venture over to the Activity Wall as they would just prefer to stay on their wall or visit people that they want to chat with and don't want to have anything to do with the Activity Wall.
It's part of the Vanilla Websites' structures. They could just give us a helpful button and nothing else. But nobody is going to be able to knock Rose off the board since she spends all day helping people. LOL then there would be fights like "I was helpful' and no one pushed the helpful button. It seems status matters to some and not that much or at all, to me and others. Buttons or No buttons wouldn't stop me from posting how I feel or what I think.

This is the interesting part. Most players are 'vocal' without being aware there is a leader board in the first place.

The thing is the other day I saw someone say in another thread how it surprises them that the forums are so 'competitive' when it is a single player Sims game and not a multi player game. Games like that do have leader boards and maybe some disgusting levels of cheating. A Sims forum has never been about status before. Aside from some well known vocal players *looks around nervously* and a some builders/ modders and 'Youtubers' who become known around the community there is not proper ranks. There should be no player 'above' another other and having likes and awesomes, as nice as the intention is t does very little for the arguments when they appear. Indeed you could have two players arguing for hours on end and have roughly the same amount of likes as each other. Who is 'better' then?

My verdict is we do not 'need' a leader board on the forums. What we need is for players to show more respect and remember that although The Sims is a single player game, the forums are part of the community and no Simmer should be left out

I don't care if we have a leaderboard or not. As I said it won't stop me from posting what I feel about games. Or off topic subjects or whatever.
But I'm with others don't touch my buttons. ;) I like to press the buttons. If I like something I like it, if I think it was awesome I will hit awesome and when we had disagree it was better than me arguing with people since they were sensitive to my blunt mouth. Saved me a lot of trouble.

I'm never going to understand why people value their worth by strangers on the internet and or if they are liked if they are on a leaderboard or not. Who cares? The only thing I care about is getting the game fixed (it's a buggy as TS3 ever was) and them finding ways to bring more depth to these Sims as the older games did. If anyone thinks I even look at that thing then they haven't learned anything about me at all. I bet it's been over a year since I even looked at "Activities" so I don't get the heartburn but I guess it comes with age, it does not matter. At all.

I am one of those players who likes to give insightful a lot (I actually game you one now) but it would be a shame to loose more buttons just because it offends other players. Just what happened to LOL, how many other forums do you know loose such buttons the way this place does? We had the so called 'lol troll' who would lol at certain things and then we had those who reacted to it taking offence. It is just ridiculoius :no_mouth:

Well, I have a different take on people who were offended by 'lol'. Should people be putting out there their family member died on the internet to total strangers? No. That's personal. Should they be sharing very personal stuff to total strangers on the internet that may help predators take advantage of them and laugh at them or whatever, or post it all over facebook what a member on TS4 site said? No. You would think people would learn by now. Strangers aren't your friends and never will be. No matter how 'nice'. It's a cut throat world. Your real friends are in person at your house, in your home in your neighborhood. Not on the internet. Ever. No matter how nice they are. It's a faux relationship.

    Good points.

It never fails to amaze me how many people put their lives on social networking sites for everyone to see. Even pictures of their kids.

If you want to put pictures of kids up online so much, just play The Sims!

And yet you don't see those same 'predators' (and what a fun word that is when they're such cowards) posting laughter on those posts, do you? :p Maybe I'm the odd one out here, but I don't have sympathy for the abusers. You can say someone shouldn't post whatever aobut their family or pets or anything like that, but they're not the troublemakers here.

I was lucky enough to miss out on the whole button fiasco but I wouldn't have minded if all but one of them had been gone. You, @Cinebar, even went on to say you'd use one of them (I forget if it was Insightful or Awesome) as your own disagree afterwards. I don't know if you still do, or if you even remember after all this time, but that just goes to show people actively look for ways to abuse the system.

Another forum I'm a member of only has a Thank button, so you can Thank a post. And when you do, your username is listed/linked with everyone else who does. And that's it.

I don't believe in over-sharing on the internet. It continually shocks me how much of their personal and private lives that people splash all over the internet, for the entire world to see.
When I first started making my way online, it was continually stressed that you never, ever reveal personal details about yourself or your family. You never use your real name or tell people where you lived.

Now, people are throwing out photo's and pictures, names, sometimes addresses without even seeming to worry. There ARE horrible and awful people out there and it astonishes me that people should make it easy for those types of people to find them, or embed themselves in their lives, should they ever become fixated on you. Sure, it can happen in real space too, but why make it so easy for others to do you a mischief if they want to ?

As for the LOL button, it's ridiculous that it was ever taken away. Once you post something private, saddening, or anything like that out in the open, you need to be prepared for the kinds of twits that WILL mock you, or press a button intended for amusement, on a post that is sad. Is it right that they do ? Absolutely not. But I believe in punishing the offender and not everyone else.

'Punishing' the offenders is exactly why their only option should be to reply in a post. Because then they won't. Even if not for easier moderation, it's also a peer pressure/societal thing. Most of them are cowards and hide behind a system they can abuse. If they do post, everyone will see it for what it is and know who did it. And it doesn't stop the genuine people from finding the genuinely funny posts funny and commenting on that too.

    Yes, "their" only option.
Why should people who've done nothing but use the buttons in the correct manner have to write out a post, when they would rather just click the button and move on?
It's the same with the disagree button being removed. There were far more arguments and fights when it was taken away, than when it was present, because of that very "solution" of having to write out posts if you wanted to leave your reaction, when some simply wanted to press the button and continue on their way. They simply wanted to make their disagreement known, without having to write a novella or even a single line about it.

Many have said right from the start that this board would have been far better off requiring a base game registration of any sims game to post, and having a guest area. While it may seem excessive, a temporary ban for misuse of the button such as laughing at posts about death or illness ( the staff know who has clicked what ) and permanent ban for continued misuse, would have been far more of a deterrent to trollish users if they had to continue to pay from their own wallet to make further sock accounts.

Clearly though, it's simply easier to just take things away to punish trolls, and too bad for the responsible people who used the buttons correctly, rather than actually put a little effort into it.

As for the leaderboard, I still don't know why people are obsessing over it. It doesn't do anything. If you're that desperate to be on it to the point that someone would rather see it removed than just forget about it, well, I feel sorry for them.

What are you talking about? I use the buttons as I see fit and as intended. If it's awesome I mark awesome, but awesome doesn't have to mean brilliant. Awesome is in the eye of the beholder. I sometimes have used it to laugh since we no longer have the lol button. Something can be awesomely funny as in the person was making a good funny point. That's awesome, too.

I have never laughed at someone crying etc. What the heck are you talking about? I said people out here telling the game forum their personal emotional or social challenges should be a big fat no. This is a gaming forum and not group therapy. That is harsh? Well, it may be but it's the truth. People shouldn't look to 'strangers' on a gaming forum to get the best advice. Because what that really means is people are looking for justification and among strangers of all people.

I can see where this is going some snowflakes want buttons removed, too. I'm sorry buttons offend people but not really. And leaderboards in a noncompetitive game shouldn't be here that's true but it is the only system they have to give new members their points. And we all know how it went when there was no such system linked to new members.

I will say it again how many actually knew this changed every Sunday or even compares it every week. I certainly don't. I have written over 24,000 replies. If someone wants on the leaderboard, post more. I never post with that in my mind. I post because I have something to say.

ETA: No, I never used insightful as a disagree. What I said in that old thread is some said they were using it for that. I never said I had. Why would I? It means insightful not disagree. You don't know me at all. Logic is the number one rule in my head. If it's illogical to use it for disagree then it's against my own rules to use it because it would be illogical. Geez.

Let me just clean this up> If you want a leaderboard EA what you should have is a board that shows what players bought like on TS2, TS3. What uploads they uploaded and how many. How often they participate in the forums whether that is arguing in feedback or in video haven or modeling sections. And that should include all the games. Not just TS4. Not an 'all time leader' but participation badges....like a ribbon for everyone instead of trophy. :p

A leader board for uploads would be cool as would a leaderboard for picture sharing which could actually encourage players to post and get involved with the community more. I post pictures a fair few times a week and share stories and enjoy seeing others doing the same as well. Why are so many TS3 players on the leader board week after week? Because we are the ones sharing what we do in our game play.

@Cinebar - Apologies if I've confused you with someone else. I know a more prominent member of the forum publicly declared they would use one of those buttons as the new disagree. I think a few did, even. It's why I remember that moment at all, to be honest, because it shows it's not just new/trollish people that abuse the system. But my mind may have associated your current avatar with a similar one or something and erroneously linked your name, I'm not sure. My bad.

So insightful was the new disagree?

Well that explains why I got so many then! :D

Yeah, I don't get it either, lol. It seemed like a poorly thought out reaction to spite not having the other buttons anymore, but whatever. "Ironically" using any of the three remaining buttons only serves the button pusher's ego. *shrugs* It's as if some people think they need more buttons because they just can't be civil about discussing the game otherwise. It's like where I made a mistake above and posted an apology. I didn't need a 'Sorry' button for it, you know?

Being provocative is a choice. Lighting a match and somehow not expecting a fire, is again, a choice. The 'brutal' part about being honest is a choice. You can simply be honest. You can simply share a different opinion. You don't have to be aggressive, or argumentative. You want to be. If brutal honesty is such a vaunted ideal, how about respectful honesty too? Can that be a thing?

@king_of_simcity7 You're a good example of what I mean by this. I know you don't like the game, but generally you just state as much and leave it at that. I've rarely if ever seen you post extreme views (calling devs lazy, for example), since I've been here anyway. You're relatively respectful, even though sometimes I get the feeling it's more to keep out of trouble than a natural thing, but I appreciate the effort.

On the other side of the spectrum, I enjoy the game myself, but I also keep my posts to the relevant Sims 4 forums. Yesterday or this morning, I'm not sure, a Sims 4 vs. Sims 3 thread got merged into one in the Sims 3 section. Apparently they all do, I dunno. But when I originally posted there, it was in Sims 4 GD, and it's more appropriate there than in the Sims 3 section, because I don't hold a high opinion of 3, nor am I afraid to share it. But I did so in the more appropriate area at the time, and now that post being in the Sims 3 section is beyond my control.

I don't go out of my way to post there. And thus, a lot of 'potential arguments' don't happen. Imagine that, lol.

Interesting reply. I myself avoid saying anything negatives about the dev team as I don't actually have a problem with them. I just see it that they are trying to do a job so I don't like it when you get these over the top 'EA is so plum I hope they all get fired!' type replies that crop up now and then. Personal attacks like that don't do anyone any favours :(

As for merging things into the TS3 GD, I wouldn't know about that. A lot of threads have been moved lately so it is too hard to keep up with these days lol

Thank you for the apology. I accept. I wish they would take me off the Leaderboard, I didn't even know I was back in second spot until this thread. I thought Sparkfairy1 was number one for a few years. Shows how often I look at it. Never, unless someone says something about it.

Well you are a good advocate for The Sims and your threads are always worth reading so it makes no surprise that you got a few points.

No idea who this week's leader is though, probably not me! :D

I share some pictures this week so I have created some interest.

In fact every top scorer this week are members from the 'what happened in your game today?' thread which is the most popular thread on the forums
