Okay, so I'm super stoked about the toddler update, and I wanted to redownload the game since that was the one factor I was waiting for. However, when I attempted to download the game (I've fully paid for the digital version and have bought most of the EPs/Stuff Packs) I keep getting an error message. It's been this way for two days.
My other games, such as the Sims 3 and all the EPs, work perfectly fine. I uninstalled Origin, purged my computer of any Sims 4 files, reinstalled Origin, and still no luck. My internet connection is perfectly fine, all my web browsers work and there's no slowdown in speed or anything.
I'm completely at a loss for what to do....I've restarted my computer a million times, made sure everything was up to date as far as Origin goes, etc. I can't even submit an error report! The report form is so long that it cuts off below my computer screen and I cannot press "submit". I'm super frustrated! I was wondering if anyone had this issue, or if anyone had any idea on how I can fix it.
Get off my lawn!

I am sorry that you are having this issue.
Try right clicking the origin icon on the desktop and click " run as administrator " .
Try manually uninstalling origin then reinstalling origin and see if that helps

I tried again, and unfortunately no luck thanks so much for your help though, I may try the EA Live Chat later on.
It says "An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again in a few moments. Error: 196620:0". It's the exact same message that pops up over and over. I've played the Sims 4 before fine on this computer, so I'm super confused as to why the download keeps failing.
I am so sorry that you are still having the issue Perhaps try being in touch with EA Help live chat and that may help.

I have moved my mods to my desktop so I could clear everything else, but I'll double check to make sure all is purged of the Sims 4.
Those instructions don't seem to apply to Windows 10 I'm nervous about doing any major harddrive reboots since I have a year's worth of college stuff, writing, pictures, etc that if I lost I would be in baaaad shape
Ps I'm into tech but I'm not a professional or anything so I'm not.good with specs so sorry if what I say doesn't work
I am sorry that you are having reinstallation issues

It's a digital copy. I've never had the disk version Thanks so much for your help, though! I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually!
I contacted EA help, and the instructions they gave me didn't work although it did direct me to some files I had hidden, so I may uninstall/reinstall after having done that. Thanks for the help y'all!
Anyway, jokes aside... have you tried installing the game using safe mode with networking:

Just a few more suggestions
Check to see if your firewall is causing issues. It is not recommended to keep it off, but perhaps try turning off your antivirus /firewall and see if that may help the reinstallation.
Go to windows update and check that your computer is uptodate.

That's complicated for techlogically impaired me, but I will tuck it away after I try the thing the other poster said. Thanks so much yo!
I'll check out my firewall for sure, I hadn't thought of that. I get that pesky "WINDOWS DEFENDER" pop up all the time that doesn't actually give me any option except to turn on, though there must be a way to get around it. I do know that my trial McAfee expired and was replaced by the Windows default after I uninstalled TS4, so it could be the issue.
I do know my computer is up to date, it's set to automatically update so it does that other annoying Windows thing where it's all "I don't care what you're doing, time to update RN". So it automatically get forced into updates or does any pending updates on a restart. So I'm good in that department, at least.
Thanks for alerting me to the firewall issue!
How much free space do you have on your C Drive?

If you have a lot of space in your C drive, then you have to to the safe mode one cuz some simmers have said that has helped.
I'll just do a mini guide on how you could do it. You can open this page on your phone to read my instruction just in case you get lost while booting your computer up.
1. Go to your power button on your start menu (like you would when you're going to shut it down). But instead of choosing "shut down", hold down your SHIFT key and click on "restart".
It will bring you to a blue page.
2. Then, choose "Troubleshoot".
3. Go to Advanced Options and then Start Up Settings.
4. Then, hit "Restart".
5. Let your computer restart and then hit f5 when this page comes up to start the safe mode with networking.
6. Then, it will boot up. The font size will be kinda big and you will get a black background. But check to see that your internet is working. It will be good if you could plug your computer to the ethernet cable but I think wifi works too.
7. Then just open Origin and install the game like normal. Once you're done, you can shut down and when you turn it on again, it will go back to normal.
I can't recall the numbers exactly, but I know I have enough for the game to download.
I did what another poster above suggested and put my computer into safe mode, however I got the message that it was unable to boot into safe mode, and so I tried to restore my computer (I was assured all my word/picture documents would be left intact) and after that, the game, the EPs and Stuff Packs downloaded, but when it came time for the update, I got the same old error message. I can't even play it at all despite it being installed on my computer.
I'm about to go through and delete any of those extraneous programs to see if I can free up any disk space, just to double check it works.
I'm so baffled!
