Save game files appearing under Saves folder, but not in main menu

I tried doing save as and save, but nothing happens. I can find the folders for the saves, but they don't appear in the main menu. It has been happening for a few weeks. I am using a custom world, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Many of us play in custom worlds.

This is a shot in the dark, but are you on Patch 1.69 and, if so, is it possible that the new EP/SP chooser is not holding onto your checkboxed EP selections in between gaming sessions? A game that has "seen" certain EPs will not load if those EPs are not present or being run.

I am using Patch 1.69, and all items from all EPs and SPs are showing

This is puzzling. If you start a new test game in an EA world, give the save a funny, easy to spot name, does the new save folder show up in the correct place? And does the newly saved game show in the menu to select from?

A folder with the name shows under the Saves file, as well as a backup. It doesn't show up in the menu.

I'm thinking you might have a second game folder somewhere on your system, with older saves in it, that the Launcher is reading upon startup instead of the one it's saving into. What operating system are you running? If it's Win 8.1 or 10, look for a TS3 game folder in OneDrive. Or do a computer-wide search for something that should only be in a TS3 game folder, like DeviceConfig.log. Or the name of your older save that keeps loading.

I'll try checking Onedrive and test out other worlds later

    I found a fix.
I just had to reinstall the world via the launcher

Strange. But glad you got that worked out.

Okay, this is a really old thread. I was going to send @igazor a message, but clicking on their profile logs me out for some reason. So, I figured just post the issue here. I got a new gaming computer in January, Sims 3 generally runs very well, other than crashes which are likely the game's fault. Anyway, my save started crashing to the desktop between 7:56am and 7:59 am. I moved everyone in town to a new save, using a certain mod to retain relationships, and the issue continued. As it is right near 8 o'clock, I assumed it had something to do with the school bus, which I had been having issues with it not coming to pick up sims in the morning. Still no luck, so I assumed it had to do with something else on a timer, like everyone else in town having a carpool. I do use a service mod in which the service is meant to arrive at 8 am (but didn't usually come until closer to 10), but that is supposed to be fully compatible with patch 1.69. I have found a way to turn off the use of cars completely but I have a few issues with that.
    1. It may not actually be the issue, in which I'd have to go back to square 1.
    2. If it is the issue, it causes another issue. My sims rely heavily on services that require the NPC to come in a car, like maids. The house gets robbed a lot, so police probably wouldn't come either. Although most of my sims have no problem in fighting the burglar, regardless of traits.
If you have any ideas on what else may be the problem, I'd really appreciate your input. I have another save with different people I could probably test to see if the issue is just with the save or the whole game, but haven't been able to as of yet. Thanks!

Not sure why everyone in town would have a carpool. Usually carpools and school buses are only generated for the actively being played household, other sims have to find their own way to get to and from school/work. You may see some once in a while if you switch active households a lot, and there are some exceptions on the carpools for high level careers and some performance careers that involve limos with limo drivers and exceptions for school buses if a field trip is taking place.

If you suspect the limos (perhaps your other games don't have any Level 10 medical career sims who ride those or doesn't have anyone getting limo rides to their concerts or dress rehearsals, whatever the performance ones are, etc.), I would suggest both the NRaas Traffic mod with the setting to disallow some types of limos, and NonaMena's No Limos Careers Plus mod for the others. I use both mods together and they are fine.

The Traffic mod will also prevent the overspawnage of other types of vehicles that can clog up the game until Overwatch gets its hands on them on the next nightly run. This includes a setting that disallows the free, cheap cars issued to inactives who don't own one or can't access their own vehicle when they need to get around, and makes them use taxis instead if there are no better choices. It also includes snack and ice cream trucks that no one needs thousands of, invisibly spawning as can happen.

Perhaps you should try getting rid of this 8 am service mod to see if that's part of the problem?

And although 8am does sound time to go to work/school related, it could be world related instead such as wild flower, insect, fish, and seed spawners getting overactive at that time. But given that the issue has moved with you and your sims to a new world already, I would be less likely to suspect this one.

And finally, do you have ErrorTrap in place and is it generating any script (error) logs around the time of this routine crash or is it totally silent?

Error trap is usually silent around the time of the crash

Hey, I did a few things in the way of testing.
The other unrelated save doesn't have the crash. However, the service mod was also removed. I am yet to install Traffic. It does seem weird that it would only impact one save, but that save has been used for over a year now (with a five month break from September to January in between when my computer died and when I got the replacement) and the save that isn't affected is relatively new. I'll share what happens upon installing Traffic.

I installed Traffic and tested. When using it on the original world, it crashed on start up. I took it out and tested the same world, still crashes on startup. Tried the second world without it, got to 8:03 am. Is there anything else that could be the cause

It's possible that you simply have a bad save here, it does happen sometimes. Do you have a prior save of the crashing world that you can try to play from where things were?

You might also try a test run with no mods at all (or NRaas mods only) and empty (delete) the user game folder's scriptCache.package file.

As far as something timed for 8am or so that is causing the problem, it could also be an inactive sim somewhere in town is giving birth. Usually when this glitch strikes it causes a freeze, not a crash, but stranger things have happened. That sim would have to be identified and MC Reset to see if this is the cause. The presence of a mod from our collection that we are not allowed to discuss here for other reasons also fixes that bug when it strikes (the mod begins with a "W").

I do have prior saves for everything, and have already tried falling back on them. The crash remains. I wouldn't be surprised with pregnancy, as I believe that's happened before. I'll see who's pregnant in town.
I believe I already have the mod in question. I'll try Nraas only mods later.

You could also try the NRaas DebugEnabler command to force pregnant sims who are probably about due to give birth on the spot, in case the MC Reset doesn't do it.

I believe I've already done something like that in the past
  • muzjikzmuzjikz Posts: 24 New Member
Not for this crash, but definitely in the past

Okay, I used MC to pause all pregnancies in town. The game crashed as soon as story progression had turned on. I removed all non-nraas mods, and the game crashed before story progression could do anything.

Kind of reaching now, but do (did) you have a Hospital Overhaul mod in place from another developer? Or any other mods having to do with sims' conceptions or births?

And if it's not birthing at all causing the crash, have you tried running without CC? You could have a bad instance of something installed and this is the time where a sim someplace in your world is changing into it.

Without any script/error logs to go on at all, those might be about all I can think of to consider.

I don't have Hospital Overhaul, never did.
I do have a pregnancy controller though, I think it was by cmar.
If it's any help, when I load the game, a script error comes up with a resource key.
  • igazorigazor Posts: 19,330 Member
CmarNYC's Pregnancy Controller mod is fine provided you have the most recent version and not an outdated one. I've been using it alongside of NRaas mods for ages. Glad we can rule out the Overhaul mods.

The script error may provide some clues, but I would have to read it and any others generated in their entirety to tell. We would need them zipped up and uploaded to NRaas for that to happen.

Or if it's just one log you could use pastebin.com, but then our developer would not have a chance to read it if his help is needed.

Alright. I followed the instructions for uploading. The discussion was posted in Overwatch, since that's what always catches the issue. Be warned, my username is different on that site.

Good news: I found the bad pattern and deleted it
Bad news: This hasn't fixed the crash. The game still crashes as soon as Story Progression has turned on.
