Do Your Sims Celebrate Holidays?

«13
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I trust you’ll be wearing the green today, but what about your simmies? Will they be celebrating right alongside of you? Will you send them off to the dresser to pick out emerald-hued frocks?

Waking up this morning and realizing it was a holiday made me wonder if — and how — players of The Sims include holiday events in their games. Or do you include them at all? On my simming blog today, I posted about my in-game holidays and posed a few questions for other players. You can visit the blog or answer here. Either way, I'd love to hear about your holiday celebrations with your sims.
  • Do you celebrate traditional holidays with your sims?
  • Have you created any new holidays or special occasions that your families celebrate?
  • Will your simmies be wearing green today?

I look forward to reading your replies :)

I have only celebrated Christmas with my Sims, but it would be nice to do more, like have a party celebration for holidays, or a dinner party. As I am Irish perhaps this would be nice today to celebrate with my sims, dress them all in Green and have a party or dinner celebration. We could have a party at the pub.

    1. Not really, I may give them a Christmastree and som decorations around Christmas time but they're not really celebrating.
    2. No, I haven't.
    3. No, they won't. I'm norwegian and we don't celebrate St. Patrick's day here. I don't even really know what it is to be honest. :p

As I only started around October, my sims have only really celebrated Christmas. I might have them celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but nothing much really happens here so I may not bother. I got my holiday on Monday. Might do something for Easter as the eggs are in the game, but we'll see. If the price is good on it again, I may pick up Spooky Stuff for Halloween.

    1. Generally speaking, no, though some years I use Christmas decorations for a day or two in the game then take them down. Other years not at all.
    2. No
    3. No, and neither will I - not a drop of Irish in me. I do, however, own a green Guinness T-shirt from my holiday last year. I'll save it for a day when the beer gets respect ;)

I sometimes like to celebrate real-life traditions with my sims, but time in my game does not run at the same speed as real time. So it is not Love Day or Spooky Day in my game at the same time as Valentine's Day or Halloween.

So if I'm playing TS3 with Seasons, I turn off the automatic changes or make the seasons last a very long time, so that I can change the season when I'm ready to. I play a lot of families in rotation, so I'd try to play them all for a season, then switch. It would be no good if, in my self-sustaining town, it was always winter when I got round to playing with my farmers.

This is why temporary holiday features frustrate me. Like the Easter eggs, or trick and treating. I was annoyed because I liked these features, but wanted to play with them when I decided it was Halloween or Easter. Thankfully modders unlocked them.

I don't think my sims will be celebrating St Patrick's Day today. I'm busy remaking some households and moving them around in town, and I need to convert a few things. But I wouldn't mind sending a few to that pub in Windenburg to celebrate with a few pints of Sim-Guinness when I start playing again. ^__^

I don't even celebrate holidays myself lol. I did put up the Christmas items during December since we got them in the game, but that's as far as I'll go.

I'm a rotational player too and like you, my "in-game" times doesn't match up with the real world. It's March, but in my game, it's late August and the kiddies are getting ready for another year of school. It is frustrating when there are "special events" that don't correspond to what's happening in my sim's world, so I understand exactly how you feel, @Cinderellimouse

@Mightydan You sound like me with holidays LOL. BTW, I added your "Frenemies" to the "Sim Blog" page at Jonathan Chronicles.

My Sims are too busy taking an hour to down a grilled cheese sandwich to deal with holidays! J/K, sort of!

I will sometimes add a Christmas tree at Christmas and use the Holiday radio station, and I did have a few costume parties around Halloween (and used the Spooky station). The radio stations, for me, are kinda the easiest method to inject holiday broo-ha-ha into the game. I don't really play enough to mess with minor holidays like today, but I would fully, 100% support the addition of a Irish folk music station. I would use that station so much.

I've always been very big on holidays (X-mas and Halloween esp.). When it comes to my sims I tend to celebrate holidays with them for a small amount of time. If it's that time IRL I'll celebrate it in TS4 but now I kind of just have little celebrations/holidays even if it's not that time of year for me. Hopefully when we/if we get seasons i'll be more inclined to follow holidays. Currently my sims are setting up for Easter. (Getting Romantic Garden Stuff next week to add to the springtime effect.)

    only Halloween through New years

Valentines, St. Patricks, Easter, not really.

    maybe I'll try Mother's/Father's Day

its because I don't really have time to do those things, and without seasons I'm not really feeling it.

I won't be celebrating saint patricks day though... its not a big deal in my country and besides the fact that people wear green i dont know anything about this holiday :(

People wear green, drink during the day and more people wearing green march through the streets while others watch and drink, that is what i have gathered from years of watching American TV-shows. :D

No, my Sims don't celebrate holidays. It's nice that we have Christmas trees and decorations, however when Sims are able to give a gift (like in Sims 2) is when I'll celebrate Christmas in the game.

St. Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland (I believe he rid Eire of snakes and converted many pagans to Catholicism). Ireland and any other country with a large Irish descent population celebrate with drinking, parades, drinking, church services and drinking.

These days it tends to be embraced by anyone in said countries that needs an excuse to get wasted, not just the Irish.

    1. No. I may put up some decorations, but that's about it.
    2. No. That might be an interesting idea to explore, though, so thanks for the idea.
    3. Probably not.

Maybe when Seasons rolls out, I'll feel more festive to do these things.

Normally the holiday is over before I think about it. I might decorate for Christmas that month.. but I don't think I've ever enacted a holiday play day. I'd like to get gift giving back where it looks like they are giving another sim a present. I might pretend to have Christmas morning or better birthday's then.

I missed this Halloween in game and didn't try Spooky Stuff till after.. That's a holiday I might stretch out this year for a month.

I doubt I'd dress my sims in green today not big on going in and out of CAS to redo what they are wearing. If I were making a new sim I might. If I play tonight they are going to the Windenburg pub though.

You could just create a temporary club for all your sims' friends, make the outfits feature anything green, set drinking/socialising/pub games as activities and take them to the pub for rounds of Cream Cola (green draught) or maybe a drink that looks like Guinness/whiskey.

I've tried to with the Holiday/Spooky stuff packs, but until we get Seasons with actual holidays it just doesn't feel right.
