I'm not quite sure how I want to go about this, so I'll just keep talking and you guys just...ya know, tell me your opinions. xD

Someone recently brought to my attention that making comps is a bit hard if you don't want to repeat themes or accidentally steal someone else's idea, especially if that person is inactive and none of their comps have been seen in a while. I know everyone has different opinions on reusing themes/ideas from inactive people or not, etc., but I'm not sure where we can draw the line other than only taking inspiration from comps, not copying them. Basically, what I'm trying to say, is that we don't want people taking ideas from inactive people (I mean actually taking, as in running cycle 6 after cycle 5 stopped years ago, or copying everything about it; and since they can't be here to approve/disapprove those who ask), and we don't want people to spend a long time searching either. From my experience the forum search engine is a bit awkward to use, and sometimes keywords won't work (I typed in a whole title once, forum told me it found nothing....)

So to help people not only get inspiration for future comps, avoid people copying (mainly indirectly is the focus, I doubt someone would steal), and for other miscellaneous things (like nostalgia trips xD), I thought I'd set up a past, present, and future competitions thread that kept track of stuff.

I'm pretty sure we have hundreds of comps, so it's probably too much work? Not sure. It would be easier if we all pitched in to do this, buuut if it's too much work, maybe instead we can just list the themes that we remember?
Tell me what you think, but I want to list what I'm looking for to get us started.

Since modeling is slow moving it won't be that difficult to keep track of future and current ones, but the past ones are a bit harder to do. I also know that old comps, before we had our current format, bounced between multiple threads.

What I would like to do is have us start with our current comps. Everyone can list their current comps, and if anyone is making a comp soon they could add it to their post (useful to avoid creating the same idea at the same time. Not really a problem, but it could happen, especially if it was a suggestion someone posted for everyone to see). For current comps a link would be helpful for me, but it's not entirely needed since I can just click on them at the moment.

Then, I would like the hosts to list their old comps. Even ones that haven't seen the light of day in like, 3 years. If one of your comps is the old bouncing ones, I would like it if you just list the one where it listed the comp information. A link would be needed if it's not too much trouble.
Then, those who are willing to do this, can list the old comps they remember/participated in.

• Just to make sure I said this correctly and people understand me, this is to keep track of old comps for inspiration, nostalgia, help to avoid copying (this is a just in case), and to keep track of titles (that part is new xD). I think we could also use it as a way to vote, community wise, for someone to bring back a comp idea. I'm not sure how that would work, just an idea since I see a few people wanting some comp ideas back. Honestly, no idea. xD
• For the participated competitions that some of you are listing, I want to try and keep those only for old ones you did, so ones that just ended and beyond. Ones that are currently going on are not needed since they are on the front page at the moment and are relatively easy to find, and the hosts are probably going to list them themselves when they post. xD Speaking of which, try to avoid listing comps of people who are active, like Beech, unless they don't want to list them themselves. Helps to avoid repeats when I start making the list (after a while it will be hard to keep track).
• Let's see......You can also list names of the comps you participated in if you remember them but don't have any links. Links would be preferred but those names help too. xD If you can't remember those, you can also provide a (preferably detailed) description of the comp. Someone else might have a link for it.
• If the comps didn't make it past the sign-ups or didn't finish in general, include those as well! They'll have their own section, I think, or at least a label.
• Some comps will have the same names as each other because they're based on a TV Show or game, etc. That is perfectly okay!

If no one cares about listing the old comps of inactive people (I am interested in seeing them even if no one is interested), then we could just focus on those who are active or have been active within the past year. Or you could list the themes instead of giving links.

If you still don't want to do the old comps, even for yours, then that's fine too. We can just start with our current ones and then move them to the "old section" after.

Sooo yeah. xD Let me know what you guys think. Also, I know that the current and upcoming was done before, but they never made it far it seemed.

Brilliant idea, also maybe you could add "Still in Sign Up" as I know a lot of people comment on comps when sign ups are over. Then its all in one place.

Nice Mizzie! Always all organized! This will be harder for me, as I can only log on thru mobile right now, but I'll try to link later when I have more than 15 minutes. My biggest thing is the comp names. The super successful comp names are like a brand for the comp host. If someone were to take my comp name I'd be irate. Same with other comps. If I saw a name of a comp that I knew belonged to someone else I'd raise a whole stink about it.... Juss sayin'.

I'm glad you guys think it's a good idea! ^-^ I'm not sure how well it can be done with so many comps under this communities belt, but anything is helpful. Thank you for considering this!
And no need to rush! Take your time everyone. I know not everyone can think of them immediately, or find them immediately. For the old comps, it's meant to be a project for the next few months. Current and active ones can always be done immediately. ^-^

Hmmmmm.....quick question, how many comps would you guess have been through here? 500? 1000? Less than that, like 200?

@InaMac69 Hmmmm...You mean the ones that never put "closed" in the titles? Or do you mean something else? I don't think I specified ones that finished, so I think those would count as well.

@Mhamilton0911 Thank you! xD Ahhh! I know, I'm sorry. Hopefully that will be fixed soon. I can link your old and current comp, so no need to worry about that. ^-^ You could also just list the name or describe them and someone might have them instead!

As for names, I completely understand that! The list of comps is another way to avoid that, since people can look at the list and realize which ones are not available anymore. Like Face Off isn't easy to miss since it has so many cycles, but if someone had experience with the tv show (which isn't all about faces, which is kind of funny) but didn't see Beech's comp at the time (like now), they could accidentally steal the name when making a comp based on it. >_<

I mean, it all depends on certain hosts and their opinions, but comps with the same name would be a little hard to keep track of to begin with, so a list would just be a good way to avoid these issues in general. ^-^ Although some names aren't avoidable, like Project Runway, Next Top Model, etc. since they're usually based on the TV show. @_@

The older comps where hosted on Simtech and only advertised on here, they all had one cycle but they could be revived for more cycles, to be hosted on here. Thats what I meant, sorry if I confused you, think I confused myself LOL

I remember someone doing Battle of The Bands after I had did it and I mentioned it jokingly, but they weren't happy about me doing that I don't think. So yeah this is a good idea.

Future Comps: Might do Vanity again and Little Miss Twisted. I miss those. Might revive Claim To Fame Modeling, but I might tweak it a bit and simplify it more.

Current comps: Pin-Up Modeling

Past comps: Immortals, Little Miss Twisted Cycle 1, Little Miss Twisted Cycle 2: Boys Edition, Iconic Volume 1 (music comp), Vanity Cycle 1, 2, & 3 (Fashion),Mangaka (anime comp), Battle of The Bands Cycle 1.

Those that weren't link had too many thread to link as I use to do assignments on separate threads back then.

Other past comps (those that belong to others): SIMSPIRATION CYCLE 1, Alternative Simming, Beech's Senior High comps, Rebel Modeling also by Beech, Seeing Double (Twin comp) by lucycat101 , Art of Love by Heather, PHOßIA by Mangamonster, hmmm Seven Deadly Sins was one, Odd Couple, Vampire the Masquerade by Darkslayer, and Miss Simiverse with numerous cycles hosted by LadyEmillye.

That's literally everything I competed in almost. I recorded all my comp history on my blog.

Edit: Gothique by SucidalSpiders was iconic. I kind of want to do something similar to it with poetry.

Okay so my personal past competitions that I've run are:

Through the Ages

TOXIC was honestly me skipping songs on iTunes and then making the title I landed on into an assignment
Through the ages was like, toddler-young adult modeling.


If you ask me to list all the ones I've actually competed in, that would take me approx. 2 billion years I have a list somewhere back at home, it's well over like, 50, but. Those are my personal ones and I really wouldn't mind something like TTA being brought back, I love cutesy comps.
