A Week in the life... updated 15/10

I love playing the Sims. I have been playing the Sims since 2002.
I loved the Sims 1 but I felt a little bit frustrated that child sims didn't really grow up , the whole family was static so I was more into building rather than playing.
When The Sims 2 cam out I missed all the CC that had been produced for the Sim, so no more stately Roman homes or picturesque seaside cottages in New Zealand, and I missed all the expansion packs and their content but I was captivated by the generational gameplay.
Then The Sims 3 came out and again I missed all the content of the previous game , the EPs, the SPs and the CC but The Sims 3 retained the generational gameplay of the Sims 2 that I love and added to it the open world and create a style. I fell in love again.
Then The Sims 4 cam out and I played it solidly for a few months until I took a break to play in The Sims 3 Apocalypse Challenge Tournament. My feelings about the Sims 4 are mixed. There are aspect of the game that I enjoy but there are other aspects that I find really frustrating. It's not a matter of the Sims 4 not having all the EPs that the other games had, I mean I'm a grownup - I've been through this process twice before, but more a matter of the Design team making poor design decisions like the removal of the open world. The fact that they have ignored this highly reproducible bug for over nine months just adds to my frustration
So I have reached the point where I am not certain whether I will continue with the Sims 4 but I am going to give it one last shot. I'm going to play not one but three legacy challenges with 3 sisters, playing each in rotation.
But here's the twist one sister is going to live in Sim 4's Willow Creek, the second is going to start in Monte Vista in the Sims 2 while the third is heading towards Belladonna Cove in the Sims 2. I am going to play each family by its respective Legacy Challenge rules
Madeline
Meet Madeline Grant. She is good, creative and loves art and has the painter aspiration. Of course she got a job as a painter. She bought the largest lot in Willow Creek and bought the obligatory suit of armour to put in the family inventory. With her remaining money she bought a tent, a campfire, a cooler bin, a camp shower, a section of wall and a toilet. There wan't any money left over for an easel so after the welcoming committee had left and she helped herself to a serving of fruitcake I sent her off to do some collecting. After she exhausted all the dig points in her immediate neighbourhood she went to Oasis Spring where she collected late into the night. She ended up camping beside the creek in Johnny Zest's neighbourhood.
She had enough money after this excursion to buy herself an easel
and a small one tile swimming pool
The rest of the week was quiet, she went to work, if she was stressed from work when she arrived home she would go for a swim in the pool and then she would paint. I ended buying her a bed because the game wouldn't go into ultra-fast mode if she was sleeping in a tent. Saturday she spent painting as many paintings as she could. By the end of the week she had two promotions in her job, had nearly completed the second level of the painter aspiration and had over 2000 simoleons in her building fund. But she was still camping out on her lot.
Things get a little bit more interesting the following week.
Trinity
Her sister Trinity moved to Monte Vista. She is a good, green thumbed bookworm and gatherer who loves the outdoors. I reduced her money down to 1300 according to the Legacy Challenge rules but The Sims 3 has weather so she needed to something fast to raise money to put a roof over her head. While she was out fishing the Llama mascot arrived as well as a strange metal structure.
Which she decided to investigate when she returned home...
Which turned out to be a portal to somewhere else...
After checking the lotto records at the town hall she visited a local eatery where she met Fryderyk Rama.
Who she married after a short whirlwind romance.
When they returned to Monte Vista she bought the winning ticket in lotto and the two of them departed for University where they had both enrolled in science degrees.
When they left for the Student Meet and Greet they found their room mates having what looked suspiciously like a group discussion.
Fryderyk organised a protest about unskilled sims which ended up boosting everyone's learning
while Trinity worked on the group science project.
The rest of the week was pretty quiet. They spent either going to classes or learning the skills that would boost their academic record and give them a change of getting some extra credit when they re-enrolled. The jetpacks they had acquired in Oasis Landing made it easy for them to get away to a secluded fishing spot together (and just as easy to get away as needed...)
Fryderyk organised another protest in the middle of the week and on Friday evening after exams they went to a concert together. Saturday was spent learning those skills which they didn't get credit for in their degree but which they needed for work. And then it was time to return home.
Belinda
Belinda is a family aspiration sim who has a lifetime want to become the Education Minister. She has 3 neat and outgoing points, 5 active points and 7 playful and nice points. So basically she's introverted, playful nice slob.
She hasn't reached Belladonna Cove yet as I decided to start her off as a young adult at Academie Le Tour.
Her first two semesters were spent mostly studying and gaining the skills she needed to advance (it's been a while since I have played the Sims 2 University and I needed to get used to it again). she was rather fond of painting though. By the beginning of the second semester she had a wish to register for the Literature major and a fear of ending up in Political Science. She ended up doing psychology though as that one is the only one that seems to give a boost in the education career. The only time she went out was to go to Club Dante where she ended up moonlighting behind the bar. The moonlighting didn't stop her from getting a A+ for both semesters.
Things become a little bit more interesting for her when she becomes a sophomore.

Looking forward to more!
Madeline decided to take the day off from painting and decided to visit the local library.
Not so much to check out any books but more to check out the local talent. Geoffrey seemed nice enough, a bit on the squeamish side perhaps but he was much older than her. She decided to keep looking. Johnny Zest walked in, they got chatting and they decided to go to the Rattlesnake Juice bar together.
It was going fine when Johnny announced he had to leave for work.There weren't many people inside the bar, just the mixologist, Geoffrey from the library and a kid, so she wandered down the street chatting to people. The people were nice enough but there was no one she got on with as well as Johnny.
She went home. It was back to her routine of work, swimming and painting. She tried inviting Johnny over but there never seemed to be a good time. On Wednesday she painted her first masterpiece.
A promotion meant she got Thursday off instead of Saturday so she headed down to the Art Gallery. She knew that viewing the paintings made by other artists would inspire her and lift her art to the next level. She spotted Johnny leaving the gallery but by the time she could catch up with him he was gone. Where did he go? Should she follow? She gazed around the room and spotted a young man, named Beckett, sitting on the ottoman. They got chatting and by the end of the evening she asked him to move in with her.
Beckett was a hot-headed perfectionist bookworm who aspired to be a musical genius. He got a job as a entertainer.
Saturday evening Beckett decided that Madeline should know the truth about himself before they took the relationship to the next level.
Madeline took the revelation in her stride and it wasn't long before the relationship blossomed into love.
Belinda was starting to get out of the dorm a bit more and started making friends around campus.
She decided to head down to Club Dante to check out the talent. There were a couple of guys she kind of liked and one she definitely didn't but no one really stood out as the one.
In spire of all the socialising she put her study first. Art was her favourite way of relaxing and she received an invitation to go along to an Art and Craft club. She was up with all her study and there were a few hours before her final sophomore exam so why not check the place out.
She made a couple of plates on the potters wheel and then Gabe walked in. She checked him out and liked what she saw. They got chatting and she discovered he was a counterfeiter.
Then things got a little bit flirty but all to soon she had to return to the dorm and have a nap before her final exam. She grabbed something to eat while chatted with Zeeshan, one of her dorm mates. She was surprised by the chemistry between the two of them. She was attracted by beards and hard workers and Zeeshan was clean shaven and as a student hadn't even started his career yet but with time...
Was she making a mistake in pursuing Gabe?
Trinity and Fryderyk returned to Sim University for the next term.
Her part of the story nearly came to an abrupt end when her attempt to upgrade one of the fireplaces went badly wrong.
She managed to put herself out in the shower while her dorm mates managed to put the fire out before the firefighter arrived.
Which left the firefighter with nothing left to do except gripe at Trinity for being so careless.
Which was not really appreciated by Trinity and Fryderyk because after that close call they had they had other things on their mind to do.
Her hard work in developing her handiness skill paid off when she received along with her certificate for excellence in Handiness a discount card for the building supply firm. That would really help when they started building their house.
Trinity decided it was time to start on her dream of producing the perfect garden and planted a small experimental plot behind the dorm.
She got some help from a surprising source.
While she was doing this Fryderyk decided to develop his fishing skills.
They did work on the science project together
and went ten pin bowling the night before the exams
but after the exams they decided they needed to spend some quality time together, just them and no one else.

Madeline decided to take the next couple of days off work. She really she could do with some time off work. She wanted to dedicated more time to painting. She was making some real money now painting and it was time she started thinking about building, especially with the way things were going between her and Beckett. That night she noticed some lights down by the creek...
Beckett phoned his parents the following day.
"Mum, was that really necessary?"
"I wanted to meet the new girl in my son's life, is that so wrong?"
Beckett sighed
"Look if it make any difference, I think she's a really nice girl. You should go for it."
"So I have your blessing."
"Yes son, you have my blessing."
Beckett proposed to Madeline down by the water's edge.
After a short but meaningful ceremony they decided to honeymoon in Granite Falls.
They got lost while hiking in the deep woods. They were just about to set up camp when they stumbled upon a small cottage. Although the cottage was clearly inhabited there was no one around.
They decided to spend the night at the cottage. The next morning Madeline made breakfast while Beckett explored the vicinity of the cottage.
Around midday the hermit who lived in the cottage returned. She was pleased to see visitors and told them they were welcome to stay.
They spent several days up in the high meadow. Madeline painted while Beckett played his guitar.
It was beautiful up there.
And Madeline and Beckett only had two regrets. First was that they couldn't explore any further and the second was soon they would have to leave. As much as they wanted to stay they had jobs to return to and... Well they both wanted children and that meant a home close to a maternity hospital and schools.
They started building as soon as they got back.
Belinda was spending more time around campus making new friends.
While she was in the dorm she started spending a lot of time in the company of Zeeshan.
They went on a date together and she realised there was something she really, really wanted.
"Will you marry me Zeeshan?"
The answer of course was yes and she floated around in an elated haze for sometime afterwards.
Soon it was time for the final exam of her junior year. She passed with flying colours (again) and decided to get an early night. After all she was now a senior. She would get a good nights sleep and tackle her coursework in the morning. She drifted off to sleep.
She was startled by a loud knock on her door. What?! A man came in and put her in handcuffs. Why?!
She sat stunned in the back of the limo (limo? What sort of cop drives a limo?). The limo pulls and the driver comes over . Smiling, he undoes her handcuffs. "You have some friends waiting for you, little lady."
She recognised at least one face among those waiting at the kerb.
"Welcome to the Volaveut Society!"
It was Trinity and Fryderyk's last term at University. This time it was Trinity who organised a protest in the University quad.
The protest was a great success and Trinity visited the cafe for a quick bite afterwards. "Oi! what are you doing wearing my top!"
They awoke the next morning to find Sim University covered in a thick blanket of snow. Which meant one thing...
Snow Angels!
The week was spent studying and working on their skills. Trinity gained the respect of the other nerds on campus and ended gaining the ambitious trait.
They weren't sure which of their dorm mates tried to burn down the dorm or why they took it into their head to cook in the wee hours of the morning. They just wanted to get back to bed.
Trinity heard of a rare fish that could be found beyond the ruined pier, one that only came out after midnight. You had to be dedicated to catch that fish.
They both graduated with honours and gained the genius trait.
But Trinity was thinking about one thing as she was leaving Sims University...

Giving birth to Twins!
Beckett's Joyful panic as they brought the twins, Peter and Jeremy home.
The hard work of looking after not one but two babies but still being able to paint,
Although the subject matter was a little bit different to her usual landscapes.
Finally she remember the twins growing into boys and starting to decorate their room.
She walked to the bathroom and checked her face for wrinkles, her memory of taking the youth potion wasn't a dream. As for the rest, she would have to make her dream a reality. And at least she got some good decorating ideas...
Beckett decided to change his human disguise and worked hard on his music and comedy skills. He needed both for his job but he looked forward to the day when he could focus on his music. Human music was a particular passion of his.
Madeline worked hard on her painting. She had achieved all her aspirations as a painter now the focus was on the family's finances. She wanted to have a decent cash reserve. All the better to provide for her coming family.
Which was arriving about now...
Just one baby this time, a boy named Peter.
Soon she had another happy announcement to make.
As the week ended, it was time to do some more work on the house.
Next Belinda has a cunning plan...

Then the business was really slow in taking off. Belinda realised that she needed more in the venue to entertain her clientele. So she went back to moonlighting to raise the extra cash needed. She discovered that working as a DJ made the most money and soon she had the money to make the upgrades needed.
Then there were some of the customers. Some of them had unusual powers and an inclination to use those powers in a rather antisocial way. That sort of customer needed to have their attention redirected whenever they came into the venue.
She had a lot of dates with Zeeshan and between that and the energiser machine that somebody introduced her to she had the energy to keep on working and make her business successful.
She got her business to the point where she thought she would make a tidy profit when she sold it when she got back to Belladonna Cove. Her remaining semester was pretty cruisey. She aced the coursework and was able to spend the remainder of her time hanging with with Zeeshan and her new friends.
Soon it was time to return to Belladonna Cove.

And Trinity and Fryderyk stirred in their bed.
"Isn't it great, the house was ready for us when we arrived. I think the workmen did a great job."
(every good legacy needs a basement.
"How about some breakfast calzone"
"You, my lovely creature, are going to help me in the garden today."
Both Trinity and Fryderyk uploaded their CV and got offered jobs, Fryderyk accepted a position as a medical intern at the local hospital while Trinity started work in the science lab in the same building. The day they were due to start Fryderyk got called in early, there had been a bad crash on the main highway out of Monte Vista and they needed all the help they could get.
After work Trinity decided to go for a swim at a local beach.
Finally Fryderyk got home from work. It had been a long gruelling day working his normal shift on top of his early morning callout but all that hard work paid off when he was promoted to resident.
Trinity had the next day off work and decided to checkout the local park after seeing some people over there. She met one of the locals and discovered they shared a common love of books. By the time she had to return home the two of them were best friends.
The following day was Leisure Day and Trinity and Fryderyk spent the day doing, well, leisurely things...
Not long afterwards Trinity discovered she was pregnant.
With a baby on the way it was time to buy a car. Trinity decided to visit a local cafe. It was a great place to eat,
listen to music,
and read a book.
I'm a afraid Fryderyk didn't have time to finish that key lime pie...
not when Trinity went into labour
He drove her to the hospital and they emerged several hours later, exhausted but elated. They were the parents of triplets!
Somehow I think their second week in Monte Vista is going to be very different from the first.

That tends to vary depending on what is happening, the triplets were a lot more interesting to play as toddlers rather than babies and I have been enjoying the freedom to move around Monte Vista. The Sims 2 has also been fun, I really haven't played it since 2009 so in some respects it almost like a new game.

This was followed by a short but meaning ceremony down by the beach. Afterwards Zeeshan looked mournfully at their bank account.
"I'm afraid we married for love not money, Your sister Madeline may have camped out on her lot before she built her house but we have real weather here. Heaven knows how we are going to get a roof over our heads before the nasty weather sets in."
"Well heaven has blessed you with a wife that is not only beautiful but smart, even if I say so myself. You know that little business that I had over in Bluewater?"
"The one where we dated a few times? Surely that's not making enough profit to build us a new home?"
"That's really not the point. Look it had built up a lot of goodwill and I should get a decent price when we sell it. I was also offered some business awards. Between the two we should have a decent amount of money to build our home. We just have to visit Bluewater to tidy up a few loose ends.
Afterwards into a clothing store in Belladonna Cove. They grabbed something to eat.
Then it was time for shopping.
Serious shopping.
"Err, honey, are we going to have enough for the house?"
"definitely!"
They both found jobs, Belinda as a law enforcement officer and Zeeshan as an EMT. Belinda sighed it wasn't ideal, she really wanted a job in education but it it would do until position opened up. She looked over at Zeeshan and could that he was having similar mixed emotions.
When she got home she found Zeeshan waiting for her.
"Well, Belinda, I managed to get sacked on my first day!" He explained what happened at work. "I really thought that the janitor would take care of the problem! But I've found another job as at the town hall!"
Even though things were going well for Belinda in her job she was keeping an eye on the newspaper. Evenually the job she was waiting for came up and she started at the local high school as it's new principal. Things went as well for her as in did in the law enforcement career and she was not really sure how it happened but she got headhunted for an opening at a nearby college. The work at the college was both rewarding and challenging. She really needed to brush up on her skills if she wanted to take it to the next level.
Meanwhile Zeeshan was taking advantage of the nearby sea to work on his athletic skills.
He making some headway at the town hall but Belinda noticed he had the same ambivalence that he had towards his brief medical career. She decided to talk to him about over breakfast.
"What do you really want to do Zeeshan?"
He hesitated and muttered under his breath "well it's now or never", He continued out loud, "You know this sounds crazy but what I really want to become is a world class ballet dancer, I just seen this job in the newpaper for a dancer but I wasn't really sure how you would take if I suddenly abandoned my job at the town hall to become a pop and lock dancer."
"Honey if it makes you happy I'm all for it, go for it!"
They kissed and somehow they ended up in the bedroom...
Later that day, Belinda felt a little queasy. Could she? She would have to be certain before she broke the news to Zeeshan...
