Why can't my video caption files be played? please help.

I have recorded a few videos of my sims and got the files from the launcher to show up in my documents but whenever i click to view them it says quicktime player doesn't support it? I've downloaded so many third party softwares for quicktime player to be able to play the files but nothing seems to be working.
id be so grateful if anyone had any advise or guidance,
