Sims 3 won't open

I bought the sims 3 starter pack earlier today. When I inserted the disc, I was told that I had to install Origin in order to play. I did this, and started downloading and installing the game in Origin. Once it finally installed, I opened the launcher and it told me that there were scripts it had difficulty running. I said to continue running the scripts, and I clicked play. Once I did this, a notice came up saying that I needed to register my game online and that I didn't have internet connection. However, my internet connection is fine and I tried registering my game online and it said that my serial code was invalid. I've been waiting to get this game for a long time and it's very frustrating having to deal with this. I should also mention that my computer is Windows 8. Help please!
