Sims quitting jobs on their own

Since this last basements patch, my played sims all around my neighborhood keep quitting/retiring on their own and I keep having to go back in with cheats to give them their jobs back. Every time I go back to a different family, I find someone has quit again. Is this related to the family tree resetting?? I have that problem, too. I don't see the point in buying GTW if all my sims keep quitting their jobs :( I guess I'll have to hold off on buying it til this is fixed :/

It seems that the new feature of giving Sims careers is not being applied to unplayed Sims only. You're not the only one reporting Sims losing careers. I've had played Sims who I deliberately kept unemployed being *given* careers.

I just looked at the patch notes and it's definitely bugged. The patch notes say

Non-played Sims (sometimes referred to as townies) now have jobs!

But it's happening to played Sims too.

Ok, now that it's pretty clearly a bug, not by design (given those patch notes), I've started a bug report on the EA forum. "Me too's" help get attention there.

And to the OP, I have been playing around all day, trying to recover my lost sims (and finally succeeded) from the family trees, and it seemed to me that the culling and the job loss happened at the same time (I had the same sim loosing his job over and over while testing), but admittedly I would check for the culled sims and the jobs at the same time, so it could be happening at different times without me catching it.

I "Me Too"-ed. This is really frustrating. I bought Sims 4 on day 1 and have been enjoying it precisely because it allows me to play rotationally. I hope this gets fixed ASAP :/

Do you play with or without mods?

No mods. It wouldn't be so bad if this issue were a one time thing I could just fix with cheats. But it's persistent. I fix someone's job and someone else quits. I fix them and things seem fine for awhile, play 10 minutes, switch to another house, somebody else quits. Sometimes the whole house, sometimes just one person. This is a lot of wind out of my sails! I was looking forward to GTW! In GTW, I wonder if I were to make a scientist and returned to them later, how easy would it be to edit their progress with cheats when the game randomly just takes it away from me? I really didn't want to resort to mods this early in the game's life cycle. I'm trying to hold off on mods for as long as I possibly can.

I put a "Me too" on the bug thread. Also, I had my unemployed collector quit her astronaut career. I played another family for a while, but when I came back, she was an astronaut again. So much for my hope that this would be a one-time thing.
