Installing onto an external hard drive

Hi,
I want to install The Sims 4 onto an external drive rather than having it on my laptop hard drive - is this possible / a good idea?
Also, I'm using an Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB graphics card - having read this forum it looks like that's fine, right?
