Game crash after mod installation

Hi there. I recently downloaded the story progression mod and when I tried loading my game, it crashed. I have heard that I may have to download patch updates. I am unsure of where to find these or if that's even the problem. If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

    Hello! ^.^

To patch your game just run the game launcher (the menu bit that lets you manage your downloads, which you use to run the game). Then look for the tab. You should have options to check for updates there.

IMPORTANT! Make sure you back up your save games before patching. More info can be found here: http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/01/tutorial-what-to-do-before-patching.html

You need to make sure the patch level and mod version match. This is very important! The last patch for TS3 was Patch 1.67, that is the one you should get really, and the matching mod. You can find manual links here if you need them: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/FAQ-Current-Patch-1-67-Manual-links-and-more/td-p/67858

If you can withstand the large download, EA's Super Patcher does a much better job than the Launcher for many players. Even if it says patching is all up to date, you can instruct it to re-patch anyway and that often that fixes otherwise undetected incomplete patch jobs and related problems.

I downloaded the Super Patch, ran it, and re-installed the story progression mod. It didn't work. My game still crashed. I have since deleted the Super Patcher and the story progression mod. Are there special installation instructions for the super patcher? I should probably say that my is already at 1.67.2 which I believe is the current patch level. Is there another way to get the story progression mod to work properly? Is there maybe something wrong with my laptop?

Is there anything else in your Packages folder -- that is, do you have any mods or CC that do load correctly?

Yes I do. NoBuildSparkles.package & nointro.package. I was advised to download these first and test them before installing any other packages. It came with the Resource.cfg that's required for the Story Progression mod.

Okay, so No Intro and No Sparkles by themselves actually work correctly?

So you now have a folder called Mods. Inside of this is three things only: a folder called Packages, one called Overrides, and a Resource.cfg file.

And you are using the correct version of SP, which would be v265 or v266 (still in testing), unzipping and adding the.package file to Packages, and those three items -- SP, NoIntro and NoSparkles in your Packages file alone, nothing else there, make your game crash on startup?

That's not normal. But there are two common causes:
1 - A bad/corrupted download of the SP mod or you are not unzipping it first.
2 - Your game is from less than legitimate sources and/or you are using products such as The Ultimate Fix or any hacks from the site that produces it.

    Either one possible?

I think I've found the problem. The mod I was trying to use was v223. I cannot seem to find v265 or v266 anywhere online. Do you have a link for me?

For the StoryProgression base mod? Wow, yes that would most certainly crash a game running on any patch level beyond 1.36 or so and with any EP released after or including Supernatural.

Here is the link to our website. You will find links to the current version of all of the NRaas mods in the panel on the left side.

And where to turn if you would like help with NRaas mods in general.

Yippee!! It worked!! After going into my game and going into the NRaas modifications, I have 'Enable Progression' on 'false'. That was in general options. Right now, I'm only playing one household so the progression doesn't really bother me. But, I want my two sims to have a baby and eventually that sim is going to move out of the house. So, if I switch active households, will my non-active households stay the way they were when I left them? Also, I will want to turn on the aging to age up my active household but will that make my non-active households age as well?

Glad you got that sorted out! Where in the world did you find an over 2-year old version of SP to download...er, maybe I don't really want to know.

This discussion really isn't on-topic for this particular board, so I think it's best to repeat:

It's not quite as crowded and lively as here, but you will find friendly players and the NRaas mod developers themselves (and me) there who enjoy helping new users out with their games. :)

I am as well having issues with the Nraas mods, oddly enough I have all the newest versions. I even redownloaded all the sliders I had before, last night. I didn't make any changes to my game since July and my game loads without my mods folder in it. Like, I can get into worlds. While with the mods folder the way it is, every single game new or old crashes right before I am about to get into the world.
