JUST Another World? HELP PLEASE

xJoshPointOhxJoshPointOh Posts: 4 New Member
Hello,

I recently purchased The Sims 3 Island Paradise expansion thinking it was an actual expansion pack where you can travel to it for a limited time like in World Adventures. But it seems to just be another world. Is there a way to just visit the Island Paradise or do you HAVE to move your sims there?

@xJoshPointOh, yes, if you want to play the same household there then you do have to move your sims there using the Move To New Town interaction from the phone or computer. Alternatively you can save your household to the library and place a copy in Isla Paradiso and play them that way, but it is just the same as moving them.

However, if you install a mod called NRaas Traveler, then this unlocks the ability to travel to any world you have installed in a manner similar to that used by World Adventures.

You may want to read the FAQ for Traveler for more information.

@sirguylittle Thank you for your prompt response and help. I still think it's very misleading to put Island Paradise under the Expansion category and even have it listed on the bottom bar of The Sims 3 Game Launcher like the others.

@xJoshPointOh, it's how Expansion Packs work and IP is not the only one that is like that.

There are two parts to it, one is the addtional content and gameplay, in the case of IP that being such things as boats, houseboats, resorts, diving and mermaids. That is the expansion part of the pack.

As there is so much additional content that does not exist in other worlds, the houseboats and resorts, etc, they provide a ready built world for you to play with the new features in.

@sirguylittle So basically The Sims 3 definition of an expansion pack is a combination of a new World and a Stuff pack? Yet this doesn't seem to be the case with any of the other expansions

@xJoshPointOh, no, EPs go beyond what SPs provide. An SP just gives us additional content such as clothing, furniture and other objects that we can use in the game. SPs also will work fine with just the base game.

An EP's primary purpose is to provide additional gameplay, that is extra coding for the game to allow us to perform activities that the base game does not provide. In addition to this extra coding, we get objects that use that code and, in most EPs, a world where those objects are placed for our immediate use, without us having to build or modify our own worlds.

The EPs that are available could be broken down into 3 groups all of them having in common some additional gameplay. Group 1 would be those that just provide additional gameplay, group 2 would be those that provide a new world also and group 3 would be those that enable a new travel mechanism between worlds.

    Here's a brief rundown:

EP - Main gameplay addition - World - Travel
World Adventures - Adventure travel - 3 vacation worlds - Vacation Travel
Ambitions - New careers - Twinbrook
Late Night - City Life- Bridgeport
Generations - Inter generational interactions - no
Pets - Pets - Appaloosa Plains
Showtime - Showtime careers - Starlight Shores
Supernatural - Supernatural lifestates - Moonlight Falls
    Seasons - Weather - no
University Life - Education - Sims University - University enrolment
Island Paradise - Island Lifestyle - Isla Paradiso - Move To New Town
Into The Future - Future Travel and outcomes- Oasis Landing - Time Travel

If you want to know more about what each EP contains, I would suggest having a look at Carl's The Sims 3 Guide which has a lot more information.

    This.

EP's also add new careers which Stuff Packs don't. In IP, your Sims can become Lifeguards.
