How did you first get into The Sims?

musicalkat8musicalkat8 Posts: 186 Member
I started way back on TS1. Back then I was a teenager and I used to go to game shops most weekends (big Nintendo girl here). Unless you bought specialist magazines, gaming and game advertising was not as mainstream as it is now so you really had to keep in the loop as a gamer to find out about was being released.

One weekend while browsing in my local game store, I spotted an odd box with strange looking people on the front. I recognised the name 'Sims' from playing the first SimCity game on my neighbours PC (prehistoric PC by today's standards...) so I took a risk. WOW! It was like nothing I'd ever played before....or since...and I played it for more hours than was probably healthy that weekend!
From then on I was hooked! My parents had recently had internet installed, but as internet was still only dial-up speeds, (and 1p a minute!) I used to pay them to spend an hour to download as many kitchen cupboards, bathroom sets, clothes and items as I could! Happy times :)

In later years, with internet getting better, it was easier to keep in the loop so I was eager to play TS2 (even though it ended up costing me £650 as I needed a new computer to run it! TS3 was also a no brainier and again, I dread to think how much of my life has been taken up playing The Sims!

How about you? When and how did you get into The Sims? When you first see or hear about it? :)
Bah! I can't get my signature image to show no matter what! Help!

Music making, Sims playing, star gazing Zelda fan.

My kids had gotten it - I guess they must have seen it advertised and asked for it? or they saw it in a store? I don't remember that part. They got me into it. They drifted off to other games, but I didn't :) (And as my husband likes to remind me, not the first time someone else got a game for themselves and I tried it, on their insistence, then I forgot what time it was and how did it get to be three in the morning ...

I was 5 years old on my brother's computer. He had The Sims installed and I went into it not knowing what it was and I scrolled over the families in the neighbourhood and found one with our surname in the title. I went there and saw me, my brother and our father in sim form. I was made as a child (of course). It's funny to think now when I make a sim self of me I put it to young adult :3 And if I were to go play TS1 again, I would have to do that there too

My mom use to play it along with civilization and I think at some point she got a little tipsy one night and let me play. Ever since I was glued.

I've always bought my Sims games from the store. Sims 1, Sims 2( which sadly I was ever able to get every EP or stuff packs),Sims 1 Complete Collection,Sims 3(which I wound up selling it at a garage sale),and now Sims 4.

I came across a trailer for the sims 2 on YouTube. And I went to Wal-Mart the next day and picked it up and played it for almost a day non stop.

I became involved with The Sims 1 when it first came out and when they had Sim Masters to run the forums. I was one of those Sim Masters known as Sim Master Jen. Some of you may remember. Also I was a beta tester for the first Pets that came out in Sims and my name was even in the credits, proud of that one!

As the different Sims came out, I bought every expansion and stuff pack that was ever brought out. When they stopped the moderating with the community Sim Masters, I became an avid story writer for the Sims. I have a lot to be thankful for with the Sims. As people read my stories, they suggested I continue to make them into novels, which I have since done. I have written two full-sized novels with approximately 70 chapters, based on the stories I began with the Sims when it first came out. I am now a writer and one of the two novels is out there waiting to be published the other I'm still working on to edit. I have begun another story through the Legacy Challenge for Sims 4 called "The Chronicles of Andra Stafford". Who knows this may become a novel also.

So as you can see I have a long and loving history with The Sims and it will continue. I also enjoyed making all types of Sims in CAS as to me it is a form of Art which fits in nicely, as I am a specialist Art teacher at my school.

    regards,
    Jen :D

I was given the Gold edition of TS1, but didn't really get into it at the time. Years later I'm playing Sims Social on FB and see an ad..."If you like Sims Social, you'll love The Sims 3", or something like that. A few clicks of the mouse later, and I was hooked. Have been playing ever since. :D

When I was a kid, I was over my cousins house and saw them building on the original sims. I watched them play and it fascinated me for some reason. Lol so here I am now, playing The Sims 4.. :)

I saw my cousin play The Sims 2 Double Deluxe on her laptop, she let me play for a bit and I loved it. Since then I bought Pets, Nightlife, Seasons, Freetime and Apartment Life for TS2, and every expansion for TS3. I also played a bit of Makin' Magic, Castaway and Pets Stories on PS2. Good times, lol.

Walking along "CompUSA", I saw The Sims sitting on the shelf and started looking at the huge box it came in. It seemed super interesting so I bought it and played it for days without sleep. Quickly became an avid fan and continued to buy all versions since the first.

My mum brought the Sims 1 base game for my and my brother when I was about 7. I have a fond memory of her showing us how to use it and decorating a room with that horrible yellow wall paper with black pattern on it. Pretty sure she regretted buying it for us as we proceeded to ask for every single expansion pack going :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I had seen people online talking about The Sims (1) and thought it sounded interesting and popular. At the time, we had an xbox and I bought it for that, but couldn't get into it. My kids played it more than me. But then I discovered you could get it for pc and thought it would be better doing that, so I did and I got hooked.

It must have been after The Sims 2 had already been made, though at the time I didn't know this. I remember going into Woolworths (nostalgia, sigh) with my son and we spotted TS2 and a few EPs in there and decided to move onto that almost immediately. That was at the Pets stage. Then I followed the remaining releases as they came out.

well I was just doing research on what games we're fun to play...it was a debate between sims 2/3 when I read this article, but in the end I went with sims 3 since it was more of the newer game at the time :) so started off with s3
    Still waiting for Toddlers...

My husband and I went over to my girlfriends house to help fix their well. While the guys were fixin she said "Hey come look at this." She bought The Sims for her son who was disinterested in it so she tried them out and we have been hooked since. That was 14 years ago and 4 computers later. :o Needless to say the guys were not real happy with our non help. :p

My first sims game was was Sim Ant. My brother and I were both little kids but we liked sandbox mode and created whole areas with food everywhere for them. I remember fighting red ants and spiders I think and trying to take over a house.

As a young teen I think I played the first sims, but I'm not totally sure, it was a long time ago, lol. I remember making lesbian couples adopt babies and starving sims to death but maybe it was sim city? I didn't do much besides making lesbians and ghosts. I'm pretty sure I played sims 1.

I never played TS2 but I bought TS3 when pets came out and quickly purchased a few other expansions. Sims 3 held my interest and feels like what truly got me into simming.

Back in late July, Origin was offering Sims 2 and its expansion packs for free so I was like "Sure, why not".

The very first advertisement/commercial I ever saw for The Sims I said "I gotta have that game." It was released Feb 4 and I got it for Valentine's day :) HaHa, that boy is long, long gone but my Sims are still around.
