Sims 4 would not start without internet. Any hope this will be changed?

A. Yes. You will need an Origin™ account to install and register The Sims 4. Once installed, you don't need to be online to play.
Q. Is a persistent online connection required to play The Sims 4?
A. An internet connection is required to activate the game for the first time. However after that, a persistent online connection is not required to play The Sims 4.
Based on this information I was not worried when the internet from my ISP was out of service in my area.
I decided to play my game while I waited. But no ... I tried starting the game from the desktop icon. That brought up the Origin. I was able to log into Origin in Offline mode. Still not worried. But then I got an error message.

This issue was resolved after my internet was back in service but it should not have happened in the first place.

@ EQ I am very troubled to hear you could not play while your internet connection was disabled. There are sometimed when I do not have internet and I believed that I could play the game without a connection. NO connection at all. It is troubling to think that I might have to be online on Origin and then go offline to play...offline. This is very misleading

Yes I've experienced this. Cannot play if my internet goes down. Running Win7 and have The Sims 4 Premium Edition DVD's. Origin seems to be a resource hog also. I'd love to play and not have to be connected to Origin at all.

I'd like to be able to play if I have no connection to the internet at all. I can do this with Steam games, also Minecraft. An option to "play offline" just comes up and then your good to go.

Sounds like a bug somewhere in your game, you should report this over in the bug forum: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4-Bug-Reports/bd-p/The-Sims-4-Bugs

My internet was down last week and I was able to load The Sims 4 just fine. Origin asks you to login and then it goes into offline mode and you can play your games from there.

I played it for a couple weeks offline fine after I activated but after a crash it randomly stopped working and needed internet to activate. Haven't had it since and hope it wasn't a crash issue, since if it had a chance of doing this every time it crashed a lot of people were mad.

I will be with no internet connection this weekend. I am taking my laptop along to test and see if I can play without connecting with origin first.

My experience with origin has been buggy to say the least, TS2 was very laggy and hard to play when I downloaded, but after trying to run it without being connected to the internet it started working fine. With TS3 I had to get the origin version of supernatural because the disk refused to install and I couldn't for the life of me find the reciept, even in offline mode if I used the stuff from that expansion the game would lag more, no connection at all and it worked fine. Now with TS4, the lag I have (since I'm running the game with a few minimum requirements) is much better but noticeable in the first ten to twenty minutes of game play, yesterday I finally tried playing without a connection at all and only had a minute or so of start up lag, I could even travel and not worry about the lag at all. Maybe you could try unistalling origin and reinstalling it?

I was able to play without an internet connection over the weekend. I did start a new save, not sure that had anything to do with it.

to play offline, right click ts4 in origin and click properties, then click disable origin in game.
Also click to turn off online features in the game options. You should also be able to go offline in origin.

This issue was not playing in Offline Mode it was not being able to start the game with No internet. Fortunately my internet has been good and this has not occurred again.

There was a large patch on October 1st, as I'd hope everyone is aware by now, and small patches on 9/5, 9/9, and 9/29. The way The Sims 4 (like virtually every other game on the market right now) is created, you need to be on the current patch level and the most recent version of the game in order to play. You don't have to have an internet connection to start the game; you just need to temporarily connect to the internet in order to allow your game to update to the newest patch. You can always check http://help.ea.com/en/article/the-sims-4-updates/ to see if there's a new patch that needs downloading.

I found out you need to connect to the Internet to start The Sims 4 mostly because you need to sign in to Origin. If I was signed into Origin, I could play TS4 after it goes into Offline Mode. On Steam, when you turn on Offline Mode, it will stay that way until I disable it. This doesn't seem to be the case with Origin.

No, you could sign in to Origin without being connected to the Internet first. At least, that's how it was before the last patch. I've heard some say that since the patch you can no longer do this. If that's the case, EA needs to get on this quick, because they promised from day one that Internet was not required to play.

Really? Darn. Before the last patch, I was without an internet connection and and could sign in to Origin and play offline. The last couple of days I've had a connection but then gone offline to play because I didn't have any of the little hiccups (lag) during game play while in offline mode.

I am having the same problem... I have Origin on my pc but no longer have internet... I just bought Sims 4 and I can't sign in and can't download.. This is really messed up because I spent the money for the game and can't play it! EA needs to get their heads on straight(putting it nicely)... I spent $40 for a game I can't even play... What the hey?!

Hello @Chrystalyne
Could you perhaps try taking your computer somewhere else that has internet access so that you can download, install and play the game once. Then you can set it to offline mode, whilst still online, and you will then be able to play it off line.
