    Hi,

Are you trying to install the game to the external hard drive device? Installing and running TS3 from an external drive, while possible at least for the base game, is generally not recommended. The reason for this is that Windows does not tend to read registry entries properly from external mass storage devices, not to mention the performance hit in data transfer rates.

My computer doesn't have an dvd slot/drive/thingy. So I connected a external hard drive to insert the disk. I keep getting I/O device errors.

Instead of installing via DVD disc, you can redeem a digital download version of the game from the EA Store at no cost to you. This is made possible through the Origin download manager client. Since you have registered the game on the Sims3.com website, the product will already be redeemed to you in Origin. The latest version of the Origin client can be downloaded from the following link, depending on the computer platform being used:

    PC
    http://www.dm.origin.com/download

    Mac
    http://www.dm.origin.com/mac/download

Once the Origin download manager is installed and running, log into it using your Sims3.com login credentials. From the My Games tab you should find your digital game ready to download and install.

Login to Origin and it will be on the homepage for the store. You can click the arrows to navigate or just click on My Games. I have it circled in yellow w/yellow-arrow up in the top left corner.
