Unfinished contests

JoolsterJoolster Posts: 6,417 Member
The purpose of this thread is not to name and shame anyone but to bring closure and reward people who put time and effort in contests that were abandoned/forgotten.

> We will try to resolve most if not all unfinished contests.
> Sometimes the prizes may be significantly smaller than originally promised by the proper host because we work with donations.
> We normally do not solve any contests outside of Gift Gathering subforum (even if it was advertised here).
> We normally do not solve any abandoned lotteries since they take no effort to participate in.
> We do not solve any Facebook/Youtube contests/lotteries.

Please consult the "Resolved contests" list for a list of names whose contests we've closed. Some of them had compelling reasons to leave their contests and some did not, it is not a blacklist but do cast a solid judgement whether or not you would like to join those peoples' contests again.

Furthermore, red flags should always pop up when you see someone with 100 forum posts offering a very very hefty amount of simpoints for a very basic contest, such as a CAS. (I mean I don't think even the well-known big guns here in GG would offer 5k for a CAS contest.) We don't have a bottomless well of simpoints, we work with what we've got/can get, so sometimes we will lower the prizes substantially due to resources and well..common sense. Like I mentioned before, we don't want the wrong people to get the idea that we will always mop up after them with a smile. I just hope none of the abandoned contestants take offense to that.

If repeat offenders make new contests, I would urge everyone to notify others not to join that contest.

R0b3rto0o's Youtube 10k simpoints giveaway (no end date, was aiming for a certain amount of subs on YT but never achieved said number and stopped bumping his own thread, yet is still making new videos): http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/533608.page

Failed lotteries/giveaways/mini contests in GG:

thesims3boy's Super Giveaway: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/578641.page - Sims34evah apparently won Sunlit Tides, Lucky Palms, Date Night Set, and Lady Ravendancer Goth's Book o' Spells but is an obvious fake account with no worlds registered and their "winning" entry was not compliant with the rules either. Very obvious thesims3boy never gave any prizes away to anyone.

Not able to shed much light I am afraid but it must be frustrating to work on a contest entry and then not see a drawn. :(

I would guess real life got in the way for Thjern as I have also not seen them online.

As for the dog contest I saw the thread a few times also but have not seen the simmer post again my guess is they either didn't have the points, or maybe they forgot about running the contset??

P.s. This is my 500th post (woooooooooooooooo) :D

Sorry I have been waiting to do that all morning. :P

    Bit worrying about Thjern :(

The other simmer - i've seen online and she has been on her fb - not stalking she linked a photo that lead me to her fb. She's alive and well so an update should be no problem. On my contest avoid list.

Hi joolster, I can't shed any light on your unfinished competitions but is it okay if I add another that I was in?

That's a good idea at least then someone may be able to shed light on that contest as well. :)

I agree about the first one that real life may have taken over. The second one I don't know about. If you all would like to try and close these, we can try to round up some judges and see what we can do about prizes. We could leave messages on both their pages letting them know. :)

    @Nicole- Congrats on 500. :D **Hugs**

I'd definitely like to sort the 2nd, seeing as there was only 1 prize and 3 entries, should be pretty easy. I can't judge it myself because I am one of the 3 entrants. I guess anyone who would like to judge, just leave a little note here, or perhaps it's better if we open an anonymous public voting using a survey form?

Thanks Joolster for creating this thread. I think it's important to acknowledge these unfinished contests, as people go to a lot of effort to participate and I feel it's a shame to just let them pass by.

And if hosts are having real life issues, it just doesn't seem right to hassle them about a contest.

The second one should be easy enough to sort out. Though not sure about Thjern's contest as it has been alomst a month without anyone seeing him??

Thanks for the congrats it's good to no longer be a newbie. :):)

Oww that is so frustrating, especially the dog contest as they've been online and active, less so for Thjern as they've not been on so may have other more pressing things to deal with. It must be very annoying to enter a contest and then be left with no outcome, as people put a lot of effort into thier entries. :(

I hope we can get them resolved.

It is very annoying. Even with contests I don't place in, I still like to know all the winners have been awarded the promised prizes. I think some people underestimate the responsibilities they take on when they start a contest. It's their duty to bookmark it, check regularly and make sure they have enough simpoints for prizes.

I've been part of some contests that took month+- to have the winners announced, but the hosts let us know before the due date that they're busy with exams and whatnot so the waiting wasn't a problem.

Nods I can see how it's nice to actually feel like the contest has ended. And I think you're right sometimes people think a contest requires starting a thread and that's it, but you have to check back and keep people up to date.

Objective: Re-Create the houses on the full regal living set store picture
    Prizes: 2000 SP in total
    Entries: 1
Contest finished on: Not definitive but suppossed to be January or February

I honestly think the host may have just forgotten about this due to lack of participants (I was the only entrant). However, I like to delete threads from my bookmarks once they have finished and this one has been sitting in there, since December last year, unresolved!

I don't want the prize myself, as I was the only entrant but it would be nice to get this comp wrapped up and maybe gift some nice simmers with the prize money. Then I can finally get rid of it from my bookmarks!

I have seen this user online in the recent past, so there might be a chance that she dropped it, because there were not enough entries. But I still think she should have said something or at least award you the winner.

This one is easy enough to find out about. She's been here doing her "Gleek" contest. When she pops in, I'll be sure to ask her what's going on with this. :)

Yes but I'm only having it because it's hot. :( It's nice inside (vanilla+thin orange juice swirls) but I wish it had chocolate glazing on the outside. Instead it has frozen orange juice and I normally don't like fruity icecreams unless it's kiwi. I prefer nuts or chocolate.

Maybe suggest to her to reopen it? All the regal sub sets were on sale during March Mayhem so more people will have the sets and more people may want to participate?

I honestly think the host may have just forgotten about this due to lack of participants (I was the only entrant). However, I like to delete threads from my bookmarks once they have finished and this one has been sitting in there, since December last year, unresolved!

I don't want the prize myself, as I was the only entrant but it would be nice to get this comp wrapped up and maybe gift some nice simmers with the prize money. Then I can finally get rid of it from my bookmarks!

This one is easy enough to find out about. She's been here doing her "Gleek" contest. When she pops in, I'll be sure to ask her what's going on with this. :)

Maybe suggest to her to reopen it? All the regal sub sets were on sale during March Mayhem so more people will have the sets and more people may want to participate?

I wouldn't mind if it was re-opened but she already tried to get people interested by re-opening it before. Maybe she's sick of it! I don't mind either way as long as it gets some sort of official closure.
