The Sims 3 Pets Compatibility Error -Mac

I purchased my disc copy of Pets and was super excited until I saw this error appear as soon as the installation started. Once I have validated the game and installation is about to start: "The version of The Sims™ 3 installed is not updatable and is not compatible with The Sims™ 3 Pets " pops up and stops the process. I have been on the phone with EA for three hours and they are telling me its a disk drive problem which I know it is not. I try to update my game, but the update cancels halfway through. Need help! The Sims 3 Pets is so close

now if i'm right in believing Pets comes with the Mega patch in the "\Support\UpdatesMac" folder there,

so whatever magic you do with Macs try running the super patch from the disc and see how you get on
