Hi, I have several challenges on the go and have even combined two of them. I'm doing these challenges for fun.
My combined one is the Oliver Day story that I started as my legacy challenge and then merged it with the Zodiac Legacy using Johanna Steel.
I also am doing the 'differences in the family tree one' with Tobias and Grace Duff in 'Following in her Mother's footsteps'.
Isaac and Carol Steel are my Adoptacy Sims.
Vaunda Steel is my Wishacy story.
My final legacy is my Novelacy with Frank and Charity Hardy which is based off the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries that I grew up reading.
These stories are spawn off of my first legacy story of Jan Tedfor who married Christopher Steel from Sunset Valley and moved to Bridgeport. This legacy is now in its second generation with heir Keiler Steel. The stars of my legacy challenges are his siblings and Oliver Day who is from Nick and Silver Day story that I had to end due to some glitches but Nick will be coming back in the fall when the Pets expansion comes out to start an Arabian Horse Farm in memory of his late wife, Silver who passed away in a tragic accident on their last vacation together. You can read the details in my story "Silver River Ranch".
All my stories can be found on Blogspot at http://silverdaybreaks.blogspot.com and updates and pictures are on wickichick's thread 'What happened in your sim's stories today?' Comments and feedback are welcome on either site. Am looking for new Sim friends as well and will accept all friend requests.
I didn't see the Adoption Challenge listed, so here you go.
This one I originally found on the TS2 boards but it was my first family to reach second generation in TS3. (now the save is corrupted! sad face!) I don't have the original rules on hand so I'm doing this by memory. Please post any questions!
Adoption Challenge
Create parent Sim(s). You can choose to have a single parent (M or F) or two parents of the same age.
If you create two Sims, they must be married - they cannot be roomies or siblings.
There are specific traits which will help your adoption challenge go smoother, but for EXTRA SPICE, randomize your parent Sims' traits!
Cheats are not allowed except when moving into the family's first home. The home must be selected and purchased BEFORE adding to family funds! Then you can add $50k to household funds for furnishings and other expenses.
Your GOAL is to raise as many households of children to Young Adulthood as you possibly can, before retiring as an Elder.
Your house must be full at all times, with 1 or 2 adult (parent) Sim(s) and 6 to 7 Sims of Teen or younger age range.
The oldest age you can adopt is Child.
You can breed your parent Sims, if you wish. They count for this challenge.
Upon aging to Young Adult, Sims must immediately leave home.
Parents can cheat, add babies to the family through adultery, or get divorced if you choose.
Sims with whom your parent Sim is having an affair may not be moved into the house, except temporarily so you can add any illegitimate babies to the existing family.
One parent Sim may also move out if they are consistently unhappy.
Absent, deceased, or unfaithful Sim parents can be replaced by Sim children about to age to Young Adult or romantic partners of the existing parent Sim ("my husband left, I guess my boyfriend can move in now!").
If one Sim parent is deceased and his ghost haunts the lot, as long as there are no plans to revive him as a playable ghost, he can still be replaced.
The family can move to a new home if necessary.
The nanny can be used, but only if both parents will be absent from the home. (I suggest putting your teens to work and making them help with younger kids instead!)
When the existing parent Sim(s) reach Elder age, the child closest to Young Adult with the highest relationship score to each parent can be chosen as their "heir".
Once the heir reaches Young Adult age, the original Sim parents must move out, and the adoption challenge restarts!
No restrictions on jobs (hardcore mode: no jobs or professions!) or life state.
Here's another challenge from Carl and Pam's Sims 3 Forums, The Orphanage Project. This challenge was created by a user and moderator known as Shipperke. The basic idea is to start off poor, adopt children, and give them a better life. The rules can be found here. If Shipperke's on this forum, big shout-out and thanks from me!
*Updated...just a reminder to people, this isn't a list of people's personal stories, it's just a list of challenges you can play. also did not post challenges just posted in this topic. if you copy and paste it into a new topic so there's an outside link i will add it. thanks
This are no new challenges below. Just for my info - I'm separating the second list to multi generational challenges and single generational challenges - then I have more things to do with clones. I'm posting it so anyone else who is specifically interested in shorter vs longer challenges can find them.
A few of the links in the original list aren't working. Those are skipped here.

This. This is amazing. Thank you so much for compiling this.
Now I'm really aching to finish out my 10 Gen to start all these, lol.
On a side note, I stumbled upon an Adoptacy that I didn't see listed. Not my idea but sounds fun:
